in 1852, and when Bartold platted his Western Addition to Manchester in 1855,this building was shown on the plat. The story that the building was anearly school is not substantiated by documentary evidence, but the lot didhave a blacksmith's shop and a wagonmaker's shop on it, which Bartold leasedto John Bauman and Joseph Killigen in 1855 for five years. Bartold sold theproperty in 1855 to Joseph Schreiner and George Reichard and in 1857 to GeorgeWisker. He himself 1ived on the north side of Manchester Road, directlyopposite. He died in 1858. In 1864, the property was sold by Joanna Couchto George Kropp, who was a blacksmith and wagnomaker. Kropp died in 1879.

he sold it to William F. Berry, an early settler of Manchester who alreadyhad a house and tavern or hotel on the north side of Manchester Roaddirectly opposite. He died in 1868. In 1865 Francis Migneron, a gemsmith, had purchased the corner at Sulphur Springs Road, with a 40-footfrontage on Manchester Road, and he acquired the rest of the site fromBerry's estate in 1869 for $400. Presumably his own home was located onthe west portion of the property. He sold a small portion of the northeast corner of the property to Mary E. Monastes or Monnastes sometimein the 1870's, and another 40 feet in 1879, and she presumably builtthe present house the next year. After Migneron died, his heirs sold herthe rest of the property in 1894, and her daughter Amel ia Straszerpresumably tore down Migneron's house to build the present one at #802.
