Entertainment

The Capitol Arts Cen-ter has been an integral part of local entertainment for over 100 years. It made its debut as a vaudeville house in the late 1890's, before being renamed the Colum-bia Theatre. It was finally redesigned in the mid-1930's, as a movie house, and was renamed the Capitol Theatre. The Theatre showed movies for over three decades before closing its doors in 1967.

After over 10 years of vacancy, the building was purchased in 1977 by a group of citizens, formerly known as the Bowling Green-Warren County Arts Commission. After a $1.3 million reno-vation, the Capitol Arts Center reopened its doors to the community in September 1981 and was managed by the Capitol Arts Alliance for 30 years.

The Capitol Arts Center now serves as a place for south central Kentucky residents to enjoy the art of entertainment and operates under the management of the Southern Kentucky Perform-ing Arts Center (SkyPAC). The facility currently features the Houchens Gallery, Mezzanine Gallery, SKyPAC’s Education and Gallery Department, hosts touring performances and concerts, local the-ater productions, and community events, along with SkyPAC’s Youth Theater.

The Capitol Arts Center

The Capitol Arts Center is located at 416 East Main Street in Historic Fountain Square Park, next to Morris Jewelry. For ticket reservations contact the ticket office at 270-904-1880. For any ad-ditional information contact the main office at 270-904-5000.
