HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH Latino Art and Film: A Progressive Event | Friday, September 18th | Herrick District Library Begins at 5:00pm in the Hazel B. Hayes Auditorium at Herrick District Library. Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month through a free progressive evening event celebrating Hispanic art and culture. 5:00pm at Herrick District Library: Ballet Folklorico 6:00pm at City Hall : Showcase of photography from the Mexican Revolution on loan from the Mexican Consulate in Detroit along with photographs of Querataro, Holland’s Sister City. 7:00pm at the Holland Civic Theater: Film “Olvidados”, set during the 70’s, under the so called “Operation Condor” military dictatorships in Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Sister Noella Poinsette’s Central American photography, “Our Sisters and Brothers South of La Frontera”, will be on display before the film showing. The film showing is part of the Tulipanes Latino Art and Film Festival . A light dinner will be available at the Civic Theater and tapas will be available at the other locations. On Two Fronts: Latinos and Vietnam | Thursday, October 8th | Knickerbocker Theatre Begins at 7:30pm The Big Read Holland Area joins with the Hispanic Heritage month collaborative to present a documentary of memoirs from two siblings examining the Latino experience during a war that placed its heaviest burden on working class youth. This is a no cost event. Doors open at 7:00pm. Nuestra Comunidad Hispana Hispanic Americans who have come to Holland and settled in our community are invited to share their stories as part of National Hispanic Heritage Month at one of our free story collection events. Trained facilitators will be present to help the story teller through the process in either English or Spanish. Participants will receive a copy of their recorded story. The stories will be displayed at the LAUP Annual Dinner and in other places throughout the community. Thursday, September 10th from 10am – 12pm Saturday, September 12th from 2pm – 4pm Monday, September 21st from 3pm – 5pm Saturday, September 26th from 10am – 12pm SEPT 15 - OCT 15
