WelcomeHinksey Heights is a friendly and welcoming club close to Oxford with an array of golfing facilities to appeal toplayers of all abilities.

We have a magnificent 18-hole Championship Course whichfeatures some stunning holes and promises a true test to eventhe most proficient of golfers. Described by some as ‘an inland links course’, it rewards the thinking golfer and those who like spectacular scenery, as there are some glorious views of Oxford’s dreaming spires to be enjoyed.

The slightly shorter Spires Golf Course, opened by Sir Bobby Robson in July 2006, can be played as 9 or 18 holes. This course is ideal for the player with limited time to spare as the whole course can be played in less than two hours.

Our teaching facilities are second to none and with our stateof- the-art equipment and training aids we feel confident we can improve the golf game of any player.Visitors and golfing societies are invited to come and enjoy our wonderful facilities.

The clubhouse, with its exposed beams, is warm and comfortable as well being full of character. Enjoy a filling snack or a delicious sit-down meal and a refreshing drink while our attentive staff take care of you.

Our coursesHinksey Heights Golf Course is an undulating heath-land and links-type course. It has a series of interesting and distinctive holes that reward the thoughtful golfer, tempting boldness with the option of playing safe.

Full of character, the Championship Course is testing yet fair to all standards of player. Visitors are always welcome toenjoy great golf in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with unsurpassed views of Oxford’s ‘Dreaming Spires’ and the beautiful Thames Valley.

Fairways and greens encourage golfers to employ their course management skills. The course provides a challenge to match the demands of open competition, company days, or theorganisers of golf societies or groups. For larger numbers of players the organisers can vary difficulty by means of choice of tees, and pin placement.


Stretching to 6,547 yards off the white tees, the Championship Course is perhaps too challenging for beginners, but those still learning the game should not be deterred because Hinksey Heights embraces golfers of all abilities and has other courses to meet their needs.

The Spires CourseOpened in the summer of 2006 by Sir Bobby Robson this latest addition to the facilities at Hinksey Heights offers an opportunity to experience golf in this most beautiful setting. It is ideal for players who are still improving their

The yardages are a little more forgiving, too. The course plays to 2,547 yards for the men and 2,489 yards for the ladies all to a par 35. This is a 9-hole course, however some people opt to play it as an 18-hole course.


Take the course TourPrepare for your visit to Hinksey Heights by familiarising yourself with each hole over the coming pages and make the most of your round with our hole-by-hole guide. You can prepare yourself for the challenges that await, as well as pick up some invaluable playing tips from our Director of Golf, Dean Davis.

Hole 1, 360 yards, par 4A great opening hole, favour the left half of the fairway with your tee shot, leaving a relatively straightforward second shot in to the green.

Hole 2, 322 yards, par 4Keep your tee shot down the left-hand side. With the green guarded by a front bunker make sure you take enough club to the two-tiered green.

Hole 3, 446 yards, par 4This is our feature hole. Keep your tee shot down the right hand side enabling you to attack the raised green with yoursecond shot.

Hole 4, 177 yards, par 3Take one more club to ensure you hit this tricky par 3. Putting down the green is fast, with a bigger swing from the right than it looks.


Hole 5, 445 yards, par 4A testing par 4, with the heavily guarded green necessitating accuracy with your second shot.

Hole 6, 486 yards, par 5Keeping your tee shot down the right will enable bold hitters to have a go in two! The safer option is to land short of the green, leaving an easy chip on.

Hole 7, 277yards, par 4Keeping your tee shot down the right is a must. The second shot is a challenging one to a raised green.

Hole 8, 186 yards, par 3The longest par 3 on the course demands an accurate tee shot to open up a birdie opportunity.

Hole 9, 516 yards, par 5Favour the right side of the fairway on this challenging down hill par 5. Watch for the ditch that crosses the fairway.

Hole 10, 171 yards, par 3Pin position is key here. Make sure you take enough club if the pin is at the back.

Hole 11, 441 yards, par 4A testing, long par 4 from the Championship tees which plays as an equally great par 5 from the yellow tees. Make sure you take enough club for your third shot.

Hole 12, 300 yards, par 4Careful club selection from the tee is important here. Too much club can leave you in trouble and make the second shot more challenging.

Hole 13, 385 yards, par 4Favouring the right half of the fairway will leave you with a good line to the pin. Beware of leaving your approach short.

Hole 14, 381 yards, par 4Keeping your tee shot down the right side of the fairway will leave you with a challenging second shot to this small domeshaped green.

Hole 15, 480 yards, par 5With out of bounds down the left, accuracy with your tee shot is a must. Big hitters can attempt to reach in two. Bunkers guard this green, so the safe option is to lay up and rely on accuracy with your wedge.

Hole 17, 340 yards, par 4The line here is to the left of the tree, setting up a short approach shot. Big hitters can take on the challenge with their tee shot!

Joe Pepperell, he has been working as the PGA professional at Hinksey since 2013.

He is a fully-qualified PGA Teaching Professional.

Joe is involved in a vast amount of coaching every week with members and visitors.

He organises a very popular children’s ‘Summer Camp’ and has developed a unique new programme where children have the opportunity to learn and develop new skills and make new friends.

Lady golfers are looked after as well, with regular clinics held on a Tuesday and Thursday morning which tend to start in the spring and run right through to the end of October.

40 or 60 minute-long individual and group lessons are available for members and non-members. There arediscounted rates available for anyone booking a package of lessons at the same time.

For those already-proficient players looking for ways to lower their handicap further, there are on-course lessons available, which can vastly improve course management skills and give an invaluable insight into how a professional tackles a round of golf.

Junior academyJoe Pepperell runs courses run on Saturdays and gives young golfers the opportunity to:

• Learn the game of golf• Improve their skills• Understand the rules and etiquette of the game• Achieve a good standard of golf

This is the fun and exciting new way for girls and boys to be introduced to golf and is guaranteed to give the very bestpossible start to learning the game we all love.

What’s more, the youngsters do not have to be a member of the club to join in, nor do they need golf clubs to get started. Courses run for eight weeks and are open to all from the age of 5 to 16.

Golfing Fun for ChildrenHinksey Heights likes to use every opportunity to introduce youngsters to golf and we have a number of events which will appeal both to children and to parents looking for ways to keep their young ones amused.

Our Golf Parties are suitable for children of all ages and abilities. We have all the equipment needed for a great timeand our team has extensive experience of coaching children. In a nutshell: we look after everything, leaving you free to relax and we even feed them too!

In the summer we hold a very successful Summer Camp for children. This normally takes place over two weeks in August, running from Monday to Thursday.

It is possible to book children in for the whole week or individual days, but do so in good time because places fill up fast.

A number of times throughout the year we also host Junior Fun Days, which have also proved to be a major attraction.

Suitable for children aged 5-15 years, our Fun Days and Summer Camps are a great way for children to make newfriends and learn about the game of golf. Generally, there is one around Easter and one at the end of October, but again it is best to visit our website for confirmation of upcoming dates.

The practice facilities at Hinksey Heights Golf Club are an excellent way to fine tune your golf swing.

We have an uncovered driving range where you hit from mats in the winter and from the grass in the summer.

We have a short game area which is complete with bunker and a chipping green with several flags.

The putting green, which is tiered, is very realistic to the greens on the course.

The range balls machine accepts money directly, 10p coins and over, £2 per vend of 25 balls. The range digicards are still an available option but are sold as 6 or 20 buckets of 25 balls.

And remember, should your practice not be going according to plan you can always take a break and enjoy the marvellous views of Oxford and the surrounding countryside!

Membership CategoriesIf the thought of joining a lively, forward-thinking golf club with an outstanding championship courseand the friendliest members imaginable appeals, then talk to us about membership at Hinksey Heights Golf Club.

We currently have five-day and seven-day memberships available for both men and women. You will find ourmembership fees very reasonable and now is a particularly good time to become part of our club as there is currently no joining fee.

Our young golfers are well looked after, we offer attractive discounts for our seven-day Cadet Membership for youngsters up to the age of 12 and an equally-appealing Junior Membership for children between the ages of 13 and 17.

All membership now runs for 1 year(365 days) from date of purchase.

As well as the use of our course and its outstanding facilities at any time, joining brings the following additional benefits:

• Ability to obtain a handicap• Play in a variety of club competitions• You receive a bag tag and a membership card• Full golf insurance for the year (excluding equipment)• Subscription to the English Golf Union and local county affiliation fees• Your guests can enjoy discounted green fees


For those not yet ready to commit to a full membership, perhaps due to work commitments or other time constraints,we offer an alternative Points Membership.

It is ideal for those who want to be a member of a golf club, allowing you to play at whatever time that suits you. For an initial minimum purchase (which includes golf insurance) you can become a member of Hinksey Heights Golf Club.

Depending on the level of subscription you choose, you will be credited with either 95 points or 190 points. Points are then deducted from your allowance according to which day you play and on which course. When your points run out you simply top up with an amount which suits you best.

Membership starts from the day you join and lasts for one year from that day.

Points must be redeemed in the current year and may not be transferred to another player.


Playing CategoriesPart of the attraction of becoming a member of any golf club is the chance to test your competitive mettle bothagainst your peers and players from other clubs. Those considering joining Hinksey Heights will be pleased tolearn that all our sections have a programme of events throughout the year, some serious, others less so, buthopefully embracing a range of formats which will ensure there is something to appeal to everyone.

MenOur men take part in the Central Sevens Golf League, organised by the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Union of Golf Clubs,with matches taking place throughout

the season from the beginning of April to the end of October.

The league features teams of seven playing singles and its endearing appeal is that it is all-encompassing and not dominated by scratch players. One member of the team may be from category one (playing handicap less than 6), but the remaining members must be selected from categories two or three (handicaps 6 to 20).

The men play up to 30 cups in a variety of formats. The club championship is a 36-hole competition played over a weekend in the summer. Far less competitive are the weekly roll-ups on

Tuesdays and Thursdays. There is also a roll-up on Saturday mornings.

LadiesA very sociable and friendly group, the ladies have roll ups on a Thursday with competitions held on Fridays and Sundays. The Ladies are encouraged to join in with the men in mid week roll ups held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

They also play a number of cup competitions, the highlight being the Club Championship normally 36 holes played on a Saturday in the summer.


SeniorsThe Seniors section at Hinksey Heights is quite strong and likes nothing better than to make full use of the course at every opportunity.

Their modus operandi very much revolves around enjoying the game and everything it has to offer in a relaxed and easygoing atmosphere. New members to this group do not staystrangers for very long.

There are a number of friendly matches against other clubs played throughout the year. These feature much banter, friendly but not-too-serious rivalries and an enjoyable after-match meal.

The competitive highlight for the seniors is undoubtedly the Club Championship, which takes place on a Sunday in the summer.

JuniorsThe Juniors have between 10 and 15 competitions throughout the year. While not a huge section, they are a talented one and are eligible to take part in men’s events.

In 2011 they entered a team in the North Division of the Oxfordshire Junior Golf League, matches taking place atweekends.

Despite its short history Hinksey Heights has shaped many Juniors into some of the best golfers around with the likes of current Tour professional Eddie Pepperell learning his trade at our fantastic course.


Visitor InformationVisitors are always welcome at Hinksey Heights Golf Club where they can enjoy 18 holes of championship golf. It is advisable to book tee times in advance just in case course restrictions are in place on your chosen day. However during our less busy periods you cangenerally turn up and play.

Please note the following:All visitors must report to the Pro Shop before commencing play.

Valid handicap certificates are not required.

Green fee rates for that day will apply.

All visitors are required to adhere to our dress code.

No sharing of clubs is allowed on main course.

clubhouseThe delightful clubhouse at Hinksey Heights has a cosy rustic feel thanks to the exposed beams and golfing memorabilia on display.

The single-storey barn is full of character, which is not surprising considering the building is more than 200 years old.

The clubhouse provides the ideal environment in which everyone usingthe golf courses and nature trail can relax and socialise. The clubhouse is fitted with wireless internet connection,along with a flat screen television.

Changing facilities are also located in the clubhouse.

Soft drinks, fine wines, great beer, including local ales and classic spirits are available to accompany the fine food on offer which ranges from hot and cold items including salads in season and a range of home-made dishes. Special arrangements are made for visiting societies in order to ensurethat they have the perfect day.

The membership allows your company eight rounds of golf per month which is a great way to entertain clients, to say thank you by treating hard-working staff or simply to enjoy a game of golf yourself.

In addition, our corporate members receive the following benefits:

Free use of the Spires Course after 12pm.Full use of our practice facilities.Equipment hire at members’ rates.If the month’s allocation is used up, you can play at our members’ guest rate.

Discounted rates when you book your corporate day with us Play is only available after 10am on weekdays and 11am at weekends and Bank Holidays and this type of membership does not allow you to play in club competitions nor to obtain a handicap.

Businesses looking to promote themselves for a modest outlay should talk to us about sponsoring a hole, which allows your company name to be displayed on one of our tee boxes. Several hundred golfers play our course every day.

Conference FacilitiesOur clubhouse or meeting room provide ideal facilities for conferences and meetings with the added benefit of wireless internet access.

Our meeting room can comfortably seat approximately 10 people whilst the clubhouse can accommodate approximately 80 people.

We can provide a wide range of business equipment including flip charts, photocopying service, lap-tops etc.

Refreshments to keep you and your team alert and focused can gladly be provided, as can a buffet lunch with a variety of sandwiches and other tasty

side dishes or a sit-down meal allowing you to relax and discuss the day’s salient points.

Flexibility and versatility are two words we understand the meaning of and with our attentive staff on hand to deal with any unforeseen requirements, you really cannot go wrong.

How to find Us and contact usWe’re easy to find being situated on the western side of Oxford on the A34 ring road. Take the South Hinksey turn between Hinksey Hill and Botley.

For satellite navigation purposes our postcode is OX1 5AB. Directions:

By CarHinksey Heights Golf Club is situated close to Oxford and the Cotswolds. The club is easily accessible, being in close proximity to the M40, M4 & A34.

From the South take the A34 North, exiting at the South Hinksey turning between Hinksey Hill and Botley. After you take this turning follow the road round to the right and our entrance is on the left-hand side.

From the North take the A34 South, exiting at the South Hinksey turning between Botley and the Boars Hill/Ring Road turning. At the roundabout bear left, go over the fly-over and our entrance is on the right-hand side.

From the airportsWe are equidistant from London and Birmingham airports, both being about an hour’s car journey away.

Public transportThe nearest railway stations are either Oxford or Didcot. Oxford is approximately a 10-minute taxi ride away, while Didcot is 20 minutes away.
