Footprints? Why the Name?
St. Aidan, the man who our church is named
after, was a famous walker. In general people
walked a lot back then. Only important people
had enough money to buy horses. One ruler
gave St. Aidan a horse because he thought of
him as an important man deserving of a more
suitable transportation. St. Aidan gave the
horse to the next poor man he met. St. Aidan
wanted to walk because it was the humble way.
St. Aidan wanted to walk because that was the
way that he would meet new people and hear
their stories, their hopes and their concerns. It
was the place where he could have enough
time and space to talk about Jesus in an hon-
est, authentic and natural way.
This means a lot to us in this church. We are a
church that chooses the humble way, that
meets people along the road and shares a sto-
ry of Christ who is saving our lives each an eve-
ry day. This newsletter is the impression, or
footprints, left from our journey together.

“When she had said this, she turned round and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was
Jesus. Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, why are you weeping? For whom are you looking?’ Supposing him to be the
gardener, she said to him, ‘Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take
him away.’ 16 Jesus said to her, ‘Mary!’ She turned and said to him in Hebrew, ‘Rabbouni!’ (which means
Teacher).”
-John 20:14-16
Life is funny. I was thinking about that is morning as I was bopping along and singing with the radio to a 90s
ska classic. Think about it. Moments of joy, and wonder and freedom all of them carry at least a pinch of silly.
Life at its fullest and most honest and most grateful will just make you laugh.
I can’t help but think about how life is funny as we face the transition from Lent to Easter and especially this
year. I say this year because randomly this year Easter also falls on April Fools’ day. This has led to countless
bad jokes from priests with punchlines like “April Fools’! He is not actually dead.” And I promise I have only
made like half of them.
But it is strangely fitting for Easter and April Fools’ day to fall together because there is something in the res-

urrection that is truly humorous to the faithful. Cer-
tainly the pain and loss of Holy Week and Good Fri-
day are no laughing matter, but the resurrection ac-
tually flips our perception of the world on its head.
Just think for a moment of all the time you have
spent obsessing and worrying. Think of the loss and
the grief you have ex-
perienced in your life
and the energy you
have given to those
things. Think about the
power that you have
given fear in your life
and through it how you
have enthroned death,
corruption and sin with
their threats of what they can take from us. Then on
Easter, with one empty tomb all of that fear and pain
is made powerless. Grace wins. And grace wins
through the resurrection of a wacky prophet who
couldn’t even get his own people behind him. On
Good Friday hope was lost forever then three days
later… Bam! Just kidding.
Sometimes bitter people say that Christianity is a
joke and the truly ironic thing is that they are right.
Christianity is a joke, and those with faith are the on-
ly ones that get it. Death killed God, but God got the
last laugh. Destruction claimed the purest hu-
man being who ever
lived and in the pro-
cess all destruction
did was destroy itself.
Mary Magdalene is
weeping looking for
Jesus’ body full of
such grief that she
doesn’t even realize
that she is talking to the man she is crying for.
We give so much reverence to death, but in the end
it is life from its source that is truly powerful. Like
that, Life is funny, and this Easter Fools’ Day let us all
have a good laugh together.
“Sometimes bitter people say that
Christianity is a joke and the truly ironic
thing is that they are right. Christianity is a
joke, and those with faith are the only ones
that get it.”
This year our mission trip will be to Austin through Group’s Week of Hope. We will
leave on Sunday, June 24 and return on Friday June, 29. We will leave on Sunday
immediately following the 10:30 service to get lunch and head to Austin. We will
return on the 29th between 11:30 a.m.-12
p.m. We will be split into different groups,
so there is variety in what each person ends
up working on. It could be anything from
serving at a food pantry, to helping disabled
veterans with building projects, to working
with children and youth organizations. We
will be staying at Twin Lakes Fellowship
Church. The total cost is $275.00. If you are
interested in registering your teen, please
contact Taylor for registration information.

Director of Youth and Family Ministries Children’s Chapel is always one of my favorite
parts of Sunday mornings. I love hearing what
the kids will say, the questions they ask, and
listening to what they want to pray for. Their
prayers are becom-
ing more and more
about others, and
their questions are
getting deeper and
deeper theological
which is incredible
to see.
In the late summer-
early fall, we
changed the liturgy
in Children’s Chapel
to be more interac-
tive and more on
their developmental
level. Part of those
changes were how
the Prayers of the
People were done.
We have prayer
beads the children
hold onto and
squeeze as we go
through each bead
(purple-gratitude,
yellow-church, blue-
country, etc. with a cross at the end for for-
giveness). There was one particular Sunday
where we had made it about halfway through
the prayers, when one of the ushers came in
to tell us it was time to go back into “big
church”. Taken by surprise, I immediately
asked the kids to put the prayer beads and
carpet squares away. What happened next
blew me away. Almost all of them said some-
thing along the lines of “We aren’t done with
the prayers yet!”
“We haven’t fin-
ished the prayers!”
“We still have 3
more beads and the
cross!” Even after I
told them we had
to go back, they
were still begging
to finish the pray-
ers. In hindsight, I
wish I would have
stayed and let them
finish the prayers.
Unfortunately, in
the moment, my
brain didn’t go
there. It was heart-
warming and a God
moment seeing and
hearing the desire
these children had
to finish their pray-
ers.
This experience re-
minded me of what
childlike faith looks like. It reminded me that
our children aren’t just taught, they also
teach, if we are ready and willing to listen. I
challenge everyone, as well as myself to be
prepared to listen to our children and what
they have to teach us.

Meet our New Vestry Members!
At St. Aidan’s Annual Meeting in January, Haydee Penn, Mark Jones, Larry ick
and Mike Arnold were elected to serve on the Vestry as leaders of St. Aidan’s.
Larry Dick Larry was born and raised in central Michigan. Enlisted in the U.S. Navy after a short period attending Michigan State University. His Navy career took to him to Newport, RI for his first and only ship, the USS Grand Canyon. His next duty station was in Bainbridge, MD at YN A School where he met his wife to be. He was then sent to Pearl Harbor (CINCPAC) where he spent the rest of his enlisted duty. After the Navy Larry was employed for 29 years with Mobil Oil Corp. and then ExxonMobil after the merge. Larry now works for TransCanada Corp and have been with them 17 years. Larry and hi wife Jean joined Saint Aidan’s in an elementary school and has been involved with several ministries; Bishop’s Com-mittee, ACE committee, Brotherhood of Saint Andrew, Greeter, Usher, LEM, and anything else he was able to help with. Larry is now looking forward to this new chapter in my life as part of the Vestry.
Haydee Penn Haydee Penn is originally from Mexico, and have been married to Greg for over 20 years. They have two wonderful kids and a dog: Marshall, a freshman in col-lege, Jordan, in middle school and Apollo, the newest member of the family. The Penns have been part of St Aidans for about 10 years, and have been involved in multiple areas: music leaders, readers, VBS volunteers, Sunday school teacher and holding the front row seat alive. Some of her hobbies are rollerblading, painting (try to find some of her paintings around the campus) and Pinterest projects. It is a blessing and an honor to serve The Lord as part of the Vestry. If you see her around please reach out to her, she would love to hear from you.
Mark Jones Mark Jones was born and raised in New Orleans and graduated from Tulane University with a degree in Business. He is the proud father of Juleigh and Chris-topher and step father of Gina and Anthony Zaccari. Mark transferred to Hou-ston in 2012 and recently retired from a 25-year career with Caterpillar, Inc. Mark is grateful to have found St. Aidan’s as his church home and enjoys working with the Outreach and Salsa ministries and is honored to be serving on the St. Aidan’s Vestry. His special interests include golfing, fishing, travel and spending time with his family and grandchildren, Allison and Nick.

Children's Chapel is a place for children to
go worship in the traditions of our faith
but in a way that's geared towards Pre K
to 3rd grade. It will be held at the 10:30
service and the children will return during
the Peace. Volunteer adults and teens
lead the worship and music, and children
do the rest - from reading the Psalm and
Prayers of the People, to lighting candles
and collecting the offertory, to running
the power points. Please remember to
take your children to the restroom prior
to the service. See you there and be ready
to have fun in Children's Chapel!
