DMSC School Captain, Tristan Rayes, was the guest speaker at the Forum, sharing his journey through school. From a little boy in the Northern Territory, Tristan recounted his movement through different schools in the NT, Queensland, South Australia and now Victoria. He spoke of the influences on his life and how he feels at home here at Dimboola Memorial Secondary College. I was immensely proud of Tristan, he spoke from the heart and he most certainly impressed the gathered crowd. Several people left the forum to speak with Tristan before he left, congratulating him and speaking to him about some of the locations he mentioned in his speech. IMPORTANT DATES A message from our Principal…

Assessment and Reports Many of our VCE students are currently undertaking their first SACs for the year. In the other levels, there are end of unit tests and Common Assessment Tasks in the next two weeks. Please speak to your child about what assessments are coming up and support them to revise thoroughly. Remember that we have our free SMART Sessions every Monday and Wednesday afternoons and these provide a great opportunity to get some extra help in all subject areas. Our first cycle of reports will be distributed at the end of this term, however all students in Year 11 and Year 12, will receive a progress report shortly. These are an indication of how your son or daughter is progressing so far and they also clearly identify where improvements can be made. Parent Teacher Interviews will be in the first week of Term Two. Farewell to Steve Bouts Today we held a morning tea to farewell our Grounds and Maintenance man, Steve Bouts. Steve has been with us for three years and is leaving his position at DMSC to pursue other interests. We sincerely thank Steve for his work here over the years and wish him well as he embarks on this next chapter of life. Next week we will announce our new Grounds and Maintenance Manager. Good Luck to Anna! Last Tuesday, staff member Mrs Anna Exell finished up at DMSC for the time being. Anna is about to have her second child and we wish Anna, Hamish and little Gracie all the best at this very exciting time. We can’t wait to meet the newest addition to the Exell clan and also to welcome Anna back to the school in the future. School Council Vacancies Nominations for our parent vacancies on School Council are due to close. Please complete the attached nomination form if you would like to nominate. Anne Gawith Principal

Sports for Life As a part of 9/10 “Sports for Life” Elective, the class went to the Dimboola Croquet Club to try croquet! Students were amazed by the amount of skills, precision and game tactics this sport had and really enjoyed their time. We are back this Friday to play a tournament! We would like to thank Charles Rees and Judy Baker for sparing some time for us to come down and teach us the rules and skills of croquet. Mr Anders

Year 9 students Are you interested in a student exchange trip to Germany? Then read on… Expressions of Interest for the 2019-2020 AGTV-BJR 10-week reciprocal exchange to Germany are now open until Friday 27th April 2018. This is a fantastic opportunity for the personal development of students and for improving intercultural language skills. Students in Year 9 or 10 apply in 2018 for the exchange beginning in 2019 when they are in Year 10 or 11. Students are matched during 2018 according to interests and other criteria. The ability to speak German is NOT one of them, but clearly will be enhanced during the exchange. The Bavarian students arrive in February. The Victorian (and Tasmanian) students fly to Germany in November 2019 until late Jan 2020. For more information, please see Frau Klinge, or talk to Teo Haines, Rebekah Albrecht or Kaylee Withers, who have all just returned this year from their 10-week stay in Germany during the recent summer holiday period.
