DMSC Transition Coordinator, Ms Marcy Britten, outlined what is entailed for students moving from Year 6 to Year 7. Curriculum Day – Friday May 11 This Friday, all DMSC staff will be involved in professional learning day. We will commence with a shared breakfast at 7.15am, and be ready for our first session by 8.00am sharp. The focus for the day will be developing our classroom practice and we will also commence our Cultural Inclusion Training. Students are not required at school on this day. NAPLAN Testing Next week, all students in Year 7 and Year 9 will undertake a series of NAPLAN tests. Commencing on Tuesday, students will complete Reading, Writing, Language Conventions and two Numeracy tests. These tests are only a measure of performance on one day, however we encourage all students to approach them seriously and to do the very best that they can. We hope that all students show growth in these areas and if you have any queries regarding the tests, please contact our NAPLAN Coordinator, Mrs Charlotte Pyers. Winter Uniform The weather has most certainly turned and we are in for some very cold conditions at the end of this week. Can I please ask that all students wear correct uniform and that the recommended coat is our school navy blue and red coat, which is available from Dimboola Mensland. If you are having difficulties purchasing uniform items, please contact Mrs Sue Kuhnell at the college. Mother’s Day Raffle – Drawn this Friday! Just a reminder to please support our Mother’s Day Raffle. All proceeds will go towards the purchase of building supplies for our trip to Cambodia at the end of the year. The first prize is a “deluxe pamper hamper” and it is overflowing with wonderful items. Second prize is some premium Mum bubbles and delicious Haigh’s chocolates, and due to a generous donation, we now have a third prize too! Tickets are $2.00 each and are available at the office, the Dimboola Newsagency and from many DMSC staff and students. Anne Gawith Principal

HANDS ON LEARNING.

Last week, the Hands on Learning group had the task

of constructing two outdoor sets for all students to

use under the shade sail. Ethan and Hamish took the

initiative to start putting the seats together by

themselves, as they arrived as a flat pack. They had

no instructions and used their skills and knowledge to

put the seats together. It was great to see and hear

how proud and happy everyone was with their

achievements of the day. Ethan and Hamish are pictured enjoying the finished

product, well done Hands on Learning.

On Friday the 4th of May, 10 senior students visited the Melbourne Museum to view the Top Designs from 2017.

Students were able to look through design folios and look at the finished works. Top Designs promotes the great

creative ideas and design solutions being explored in all secondary schools across Victoria. It is an opportunity to

inspire our future student designers who should consider the works on display as exemplary responses to the

curriculum requirements, design thinking and design methodologies outlined in the respective VCE study designs.

I hope students were inspired to design. I look forward to watching and guiding the development of their own

design ideas throughout the year.

Thanks to Mr Chilver for assisting Mrs Simpson with the excursion.
