Jack opened a laundromat in 1962 and in 1963 Jack’s Appliances began right next door at its current location on Center Street. After he sold the Laun- dromat, he expanded his appliance business into that space. Jack always felt that supporting local businesses and schools was imperative. He was in- strumental in forming the Hilliard Area Chamber of Commerce with the late Paul Rider and Reynold Rausch of the Dairy Queen. It was called the Hilliard Business Owner’s Association in those days. He was the oldest past commander of the American Legion and was a long- time member of Post #614. Jack was al- ways very active in the Hilliard commu- nity, where he served as a former city councilman. He was a great supporter of the Hollyfest Scholarship Foundation Auction that the Chamber sponsors. He and his wife, Lavonne, would attend often with their families. We remember Jack with love and appreciation for all he did for the Hilliard community. On Sunday, October 7, Jack was in- ducted into the Senior Citizen 2012 Hall of Fame posthumously at the Phyllis A. Ernst Senior Center. Helen King was also inducted. This is a very deserving honor. The Hilliard Area Chamber of Commerce has entered into a strate-gic partnership with New Hire Facts and 104.9 The River to provide an inno-vative job board service for their members. New Hire Facts is an investiga-tive agency that has spe-cialized in background checking services for over 20 years.

This new product, The Verified Job Board, is a job-seeker driven pro-gram that allows appli-cants to create an online resume portfolio called a Verified Professional Identity, or VPI. Each VPI can have the identity, education, employment and background of each applicant verified by a staff of investigative professionals. Only then is it submitted to The Verified Job Board and the job-seeker begins his employment search.

Employers are battling a myriad of HR issues

every day: resume fraud, time constraints, budget issues, etc., especially in a small or medium-sized business. Properly verifying a candidate’s background can be time consuming, costly, and often becomes a hit-or-miss operation. This new concept will allow employers to receive only verified applicants for ev-ery job posting on www.VerifiedJobBoard.com.

“We have spent over 4 years developing this system and now have the ideal platform that performs well for both job-seekers and employ-ers of all sizes.” said D. Scott Ehlers, president and CEO of New Hire Facts. “By using The Veri-fied Job Board, the job-seekers of central Ohio will acquire the visibility and validation they need to compete in today’s business environment and employers should see a tremendous savings

in their HR budgets as well.”

This partnership will allow The Hilliard Area Chamber of Commerce to provide a powerful, innovative business platform for their mem-bers, enabling them to post jobs and reduce HR costs. Job posting ser-vices for members is free through Dec. 31, 2013, and the plan offers a 50% discount thereafter. For more information, click the Verified Job Board link on the chamber’s website, or contact New Hire Facts at [email protected] for more details.

Hilliard Area Chamber of Commerce Business Monthly

Chair’s Perspective Thanks to the HilliardCommunity

I would like to thank the Hilliard community for coming out to our 3rd Taste of Hilliard & Business Expo. Your support of our newest premier event has been outstanding. In just three years we have gone from just over 600 people in attendance to over 1300 this year. This support indicates your appreciation of our restaurant’s menu samples, and our business vendor’s generous support and advice.

Your attendance also indicates your willingness to support your small busi-ness owners in Hilliard. I truly believe there is very little reason for our com-munity to leave the Hilliard area to make our purchases and this Expo is our chance to show you why that is the case. I have spoken in the past what you’re buying local means to our business community and our community in gen-eral, but this cannot be ever voiced too often. And you deserve to be thanked when you step up like you did on August 15th and came out in big numbers in support of our businesses.

I also would not want to forget to list here some of what your Chamber of Commerce does in support of the community:

1. We sponsor the largest local scholarship given to high school graduates in the Hilliard City School District each year by giving three $8,000 scholarships to each high school, three $2,000 one-time scholarships in addition to a $1,000 award to a Hilliard student who attends Tolles Career & Technical Center.

2. Our individual member businesses generously support our school stu-dent extracurricular activities with contributions and sponsorships.

3. We bring in thousands from in and out of town who attend the Hollyfest Arts & Crafts Show every holiday season, highlighting the Hilliard area com-munity to the central Ohio area and beyond.

Again, thank you and see you next year at the Taste of Hilliard & Business Expo.
