PURPOSE

I want to do this project because I want to see if my house is draughty. Also, I want to know how powerful and meticulous wind is that makes it go through draughts at home. I bet this project is going to be really fun and exciting!

HYPOTHESIS

I think our house is really draughty because I always feel cold even though we had shut the doors and windows tightly. So I think the draught tester will be blown really hardly. Also, I think that the main door and Window 1 will be blown really hard.

MATERIALS I USED14cm x 20cm cling filmPencilTapeScissors Ruler

It has really easy materials!

Page 6: Hillary: Draught Tester PPT

1) Spread out your materials first so it won’t be too messy.2) Measure the cling film in 14cm x 20cm. Then you cut it in that

size.3) Get the pencil and place it on the top of the sheet of cling

film. 4) Using the cling film, roll the pencil. Don’t roll it too much, a bit

is enough.5) Cut the tape in small pieces.6) Tape the pencil on the cling film and you’re done.

RESULTS AND OBSERVATIONS

The main door was blown softly.

The window was blown much stronger than the main door.

CONCLUSION

My hypothesis was mostly wrong. This experiment isn’t fun or exciting at all and the main door was blown much softly than I anticipated. But I was right that Window 1 will be blown strongly. The house isn’t that draughty then I expected. Even though the experiment isn’t entertaining, but I had learned lesson from this project. First, next time I should choose a more challenging experiment. Second, I had learn some new words like draughts. Third, I had learn the power of wind and how sneaky they are.

SMALL GLOSSARY Draughts---- Small cracks or leaks that wind can come in. Mostly happens to windows and doors.

Anticipate---- Expected

Cling Film---- A transparent sheet; mostly used to wrap food to prevent from rotten food.

Meticulous---- Showing great attention; very careful and precise

THE BIG IDEA ● I have learned that why sometimes the house can be freezing cold just because of this mischievous draughts that makes the wind into our house.

● To avoid draughts, we could stuff tissues or towels on the doors but that isn’t necessary.

● Because of draughts, the heat in rooms can disappear quickly.

● Wind is really sneaky and smart as well because it can find cracks on doors and windows and take over the hot or cold air. It depends on what weather it is.

• In real life, scientists use this experiment to observe the the weather, but not with cling film. So that’s why there is weather reports.
