Tour suggestions
Grosser Donnerkogel 2,054 m, route no. 611/628 duration
approx. 2-3 hours, difficulty: black
This route leads past the Gablonzerhütte and on to the deep gorge between the craggy Kleiner Donnerkogel and the dome shaped Törleck. After a few minutes, you will reach a fork in the route. The right hand track is the Austriaweg trail which leads to the Stuhlalm. We take the left-hand trail. It leads initially through greener alders and pines and then across rocky ledges, debris, steep rocky terraces and a short canyon towards the peak. The top part of the route leads over grassy terrain and is a more comfortable walk.
Zwieselalm circular route
Duration: approx. 2 hours, difficulty: blue/ red
This well-signposted footpath leads from the mountain station following a gentle incline to the Gablonzerhütte and Breiningalm (10 mins), Sonnenalm (20 mins), Zwieselalm-höhe (30 mins) and finally, Zwieselalmhütte (40 mins). From the Zwieselalmhütte, the route leads along the Herrenweg trail (route no. 611) back to the cable car. The circular trail takes around 2 hours, including a short break. Note: the route between the Gablonzerhütte and Sonnenalm includes a sign for the chair lift to Annaberg. This only operates in the height of summer and at certain times. Please take note of the operating times on the sign.
Intersport Donnerkogel fixed ropes route
This trail runs from the Gablonzerhütte alongside the mountain station along 4 stages and over 470 m of altitude to the summit cross on the Grosser Donnerkogel. The climb crosses some steep rock faces of medium to difficult level and takes around 3,5 hours. The first stage is adventure-pa-cked but easier and can also be enjoyed by wannabe profes-sional climbers.
Route from the Gosaukammbahn mountain station to the Riedlkar mountain station.
Duration: approx. 1.5 hours, difficulty: blue/ red
A well signposted trail leads from the Gosaukammbahn mountain station and follows gentle inclines via the Gablon-zerhütte and Breiningalm (10 mins), Sonnenalm (20 mins), Zwieselalmhöhe (30 mins), Zwieselalmhütte (40 mins) and on to the overlap section with the Herrenweg trail – Russbach – Annaberg. From here, you turn left towards Annaberg.
