Creators tap an underserved audience of Muslim women, finding success
through Hijab and other Muslim fashion tutorials.
THE WHY
Search hijab tutorials on YouTube, and you will find nearly 250,000 videos,
with the top results in the six-figure views. The popularity of the subject is
reflected in this channel trailer from creator Amenakin, who explains how she
initially uploaded a random tutorial and was shocked by the response. She
now has 181,000 subscribers and pulls nearly 20,000 views a day. Dina
Tokio is also taking advantage of what has become a $100B fashion
industry, where even industry notables like Donna Karan have launched
fashion lines tailored for Muslim women. Dina makes her own tutorials, vlogs
and monthly lookbooks, and has even launched a hijab fashion line of her
own. Interestingly, the majority of views from both creators come from
European and Western nations, with the UK, US and Canada making up
over half. Saudi Arabia watches most from the Middle East, representing less
than 5%.
THE LESSON
Creators should keep in mind that “niche” doesn’t automatically mean small.
Some niches include millions of people who are eager to see content tailored
for them.
