Risk vs. Escape

• Risk-A factor, thing, element, or course involving uncertain danger; a hazard.

• The possibility of suffering harm or loss; danger.• Escape(fear/avoidance)-to succeed in avoiding (any

threatened or possible outcomes or evil)• The most successful people are the Biggest Risk-

takers…• But they are also the Biggest mistake makers!...they

have learned to not let their mistakes get them down

Keys to success

• 1. Define success for yourself.• Success is defined by who we are, what we believe

in and what we think it means to be successful.• Success possessing the capability for self-

determination• Success is a by-product and NOT and end in itself.• Set personal, academic, and career goals.2. Keep your goals high

• 3. Understand your abilities—Play to your strengths.• Focus on your abilities and less on things you are not

strong in. Focus on the “Cans” and not the “Cant's”• Develop strategies to meet your goals.4. Your life should not be defined by the assumptions of others……its ok to be your own self-advocate• You are only a victim if you choose not to take charge
