We have a calendar of unique programs and Special Events created especially for us. Please see the second page for the calendar details. I look forward to seeing you all and personally greeEng you. Let’s conEnue our great work in providing scholarships and grants to aspiring young vocalists and provide opportuniEes for regional vocal talent to perform. Our first program was a kick off party at Brookdale/Skyline on September 4 with a substanEal hot and cold appeEzer buffet complemented by a wine bar. Thanks to the personnel and Directors of Brookdale for the venue use as well as sponsoring this buffet. An interacEve program by the male quartet, “From the Top,” represenEng the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale, was well received by the audience, and we even became “honorary” quartet parEcipants. Thanks to Kate Johnson for her assistance to bring us this fun program and to the young men of the quartet. Our conEnued support goes out to the CS Children’s Chorale.

October  9,  11:30-­‐2  pm—light  lunch  at  CS  Conservatory,  415  S.  Sawatch    Program:  CS  Conservatory  scholarship  students  and  faculty,  “New  Musical  Adventures.”  (CS  Conservatory  Scholarship  Fund  was  a  recipient  of  a  PPOL  donaEon  last  spring  as  part  of  our    PPOL  mission.)  November  10,  3  pm—Young  Voice  CompeEEon  Master  Class  in  the  Flex  room  of    Cornerstone  Building  at  Colorado  College.    Chad  Reagan  to  do  the  Vocal  Master  Class.  November  15,  7  pm—Young  Voice  CompeEEon  Finals  Concert  at  Packard  Hall,  CC  campus.  December  4,  11am-­‐2pm—Holiday  Luncheon  with  MarEle’s  Merry  Singers  at  Cheyenne  Mountain  Country  Club,  9  Lake  Ave.  Program  will  begin  at  11:30  am.  There  will  be  a  charge  for  the  luncheon  with  wine  available  for  purchase  at  the  Club.  February  1,  10:55  am—the  Met  in  HD  presentaEon  of  Gershwin’s  Porgy  and  Bess.  Former  PPOL/OTR  vocalist,  Bri2any  Robinson,  will  be  making  her  Metropolitan  Opera  stage  debut,  appearing  in  the  ensemble.  To  purchase  your  Met  in  HD  Ecket,  go  online  or  do  at  the  theater  box  office—Tinseltown  is  the  suggested  theater.  Wine  and  cheese  party  will  be    post  this  presentaEon  at  the  home  of    Dr.  Susan  Rae  Jensen  and  Tom  Trainer,  approximately  from  2:30-­‐4:30  pm.  Present  your  Ecket  stub  at  the  party  for  admission.  Address  available  from  Calling  Team  Contact.  March  4,  3-­‐5  pm-­‐-­‐Champagne  aiernoon  tea  at  the  PalliaEve  Care  Center,  2550  Tenderfoot  Hill  St.  Program:  “Singing  into  Spring,”  with  Solveig  Olsen.    April  1,  4pm—Career  Advancement  Awards  Concert  with  a  recepBon  at  5pm  to  follow  the  concert,  at  the  MacLaren  School,  1702  N.  Murray  Blvd.  May  6,  11am-­‐2pm—Spring  Luncheon  at  The  Pinery  at  the  Hill,  775  W.  Bijou    Program:  MarEle  will  present  the  upcoming  VAF/OTR  summer  season,  with  singers  from  VAF  &  OTR.  There  will  be  a  charge  for  the  luncheon  and  a  cash  bar  will  be  available.        SPECIAL  EVENTS/BENEFITS:  (There  will  be  charge  for  each  benefit  special  event  with  proceeds  to  go  to  benefit  our  PPOL  Scholarship  Funds.)  Oct.  25,  5-­‐8  pm—“Fall  Fest!”:  French  themed  dinner  with  Victoria  Hansen  performing  “Bon  AppeEt  with  Julia  Child,”  at  Broadmoor  Community  Church  hospitality  area,  315  Lake  Ave.    There  will  be  a  Silent  AucEon  that  evening  as  well  as  wine  cash  bar.  $35  pp,  wine  $5.    February  28,  5-­‐8  pm—cocktails  with  food  staEons  at  Pa2y  Jewe2  Clubhouse,  900  E.  Española,  featuring  Claire  Anderson’s  program,  “Starlight  Lounge:  Claire’s  CelesBal  Songbook.”  Accompanist,  Jana  Lee  Ross.  Admission  price  to  be  announced.    June  24,  5-­‐8  pm—”Songs  for  a  Summer  Night,”  at  Gold  Hill  Mesa,  142  S.  Raven  Mine  Dr.  with  Rachel  Winnick,  past  Young  Voice  finalist  and  now  a  student  at  Denver’s  Lamont  School  in  the  vocal  jazz  department  and  ChrisEana  McMullen,  this  past  year’s  Career  Advancement    Award  winner.  TentaEve:  Bri2any  Robinson  (see  above  about  her  Metropolitan  Opera    stage  debut.)  Accompanist,  Dan  Brink.  DonaEons  will  be  requested  before  and  at  the  event.  A  summer  salad  buffet  will  be  served  with  cash  wine  bar  available.

VICTORIA  HANSEN  wears  many  hats  in  the  world  of  vocal  music.  As  a  singer  she  has  performed  numerous  roles  in  operas  and  musical  theatre  performances  with  Opera  Theatre  of  the  Rockies,  Colorado  Opera  FesEval,  Colorado  Springs  Fine  Arts  Center  Repertory  Theatre,  Theatreworks,  the  Pikes  Peak  Center,  Millibo  Art  Theatre,  and  Colorado  College.  In  concerts  she  has  performed  in  a  variety  of  genres  ranging  from  New  Music  to  Cabaret.  Her  portrayal  of  Julia  Child  in  Lee  Hoiby’s  Bon  Appé9t  received  the  Pikes  Peak  Arts  Council  award  for  Outstanding  Performance  by  a  Classical  Duo  (with  pianist  Susan  Grace)  in  2014.  She  has  specialized  in  New  Music  composiEons,  most  notably  the  music  of  her  husband  Stephen  Sco2  with  the  Bowed  Piano  Ensemble.  She  has  toured  extensively  with  this  ensemble  throughout  the  United  States,  Europe,  New  Zealand  and  Australia  and  is  featured  on  three  of  their  recordings,  Paisajes  Audibles/Sounding  Landscapes  (Albany  Records),  The  Deep  Spaces  (New  Albion)  and  Ice  and  Fire  (Parma  Recordings).  She  has  been  a  voice  teacher  for  more  than  30  years  which  included  sEnts  at  Adams  State  College  and  Pikes  Peak  Community  College  before  joining  the  faculty  as  Principal  Instructor  in  Voice  at  Colorado  College  in  2000  where  she  iniEated  and  directed  their  Musical  Theatre  Experience  program  unEl  her  reErement  in  2014.  She  conEnues  to  teach  voice  in  her  private  studio.

A  gii  from  a  golf  league  to  our  opera  league    

On  August  29,  the  golf  league  known  as  UTMC,  United  Technology    Microelectronic  Corp,  gathered  to  honor  a  teammate,  Ken  Hamman.  UTMC  was  started  decades  ago  and  has  morphed  into  interested  men  and  women  from  all  types  of  careers  and  companies.  As  part  of  the  Meeker  Music  family,  Ken  Hamman  belonged  to  this  league  which  has  supported  many  local  arts  organizaEons  with  its  annual  tournament.  For  the  last  2  years,  this  golf  tournament  has  contributed  the    proceeds  to  Pikes  Peak  Opera  League  to  benefit  our  scholarship  fund,  specifically  directed  towards  Career  Advancement  Awards,  our  scholarship  granted  each  April  towards  2  professional  aspiring  young  vocalists  in  collegiate/post  graduate  programs.  This  year  the    contribuEon  to  PPOL  scholarship  fund  was  $600.  PPOL  member,  Elizabeth  Leslie  and  husband  Mike,  facilitated  this  contribuEon  to  us.    The  photo  above  commemorates  the  event  this  year  and  included  Connie  Hamman  who  came  to  honor  her  husband’s  memory.  Meeker  Music  has  been  a  longEme  supporter  of  PPOL  as  well  as  an  annual  newsle2er  ad  sponsor.  Ken  is  remembered  by  many  in  the  music    and  arts  community  through  all  his  work  at  Meeker  Music  with  providing  instruments,  music,  and  lessons.  Several  music  careers  have  blossomed    from  his  connecEons  in  this  golf  league.
