I can’t think of a better way to judge a car show than by the comments of the people that were there. I also believe they are correct. Kent and Ray did an excellent job of organizing the show. It did run like a well oiled machine and the members were the oil!

Almost every member was signed up for one activity and some went on to do several. The streets were humming with everyone working together, it was a nice sight to see.

Already plans are being changed for the show next year, to make it better for everyone; members and guests.

It was a great show, the testimonials tell us that and I think we know a good show when we are in it.

I was born in Stockton in 1948. We moved to Sacramento in 1963 and I graduated from Mira Loma High School in 1966. I was spending my summers working on the family farm so I was able to buy a navy blue 1956 Chevy Bel Air for $500. That baby had chrome rims with baby moons, a Hurst four speed, black tuck and rolled upholstery, etc. Then I went in the Army and I sold it for the same $500.

After the Army I bought a huge Dodge Charger, maroon with a cool white stripe, and drove down to Fresno State University. Thanks to the G.I. Bill I was able to graduate in 1975 and get a job as a Customs inspec-tor in San Francisco. This was the best job ever. Every day brought something different, someone trying something or cargo that was illegal.

My wife Sandie and I went to her home in Hawaii to be married in 1979. After a three year tour at Customs HQ in Washington, DC, and the birth of our son Jay in 1985, we moved to Norfolk, VA. From there it was Boston and a great tour in Hawaii.

In 1995 we moved back to San Francisco where I took over as Assistant Port Director, In-spection and Control Division. Sandie saw greener fields elsewhere and I was afforded the opportunity to raise our son on my own. This was the best experience of my life.

Retiring in 2003, I sent Jay off to school and moved to Lincoln. I now run a garden railroad, build ships, play bridge, work with the local VFW and joined Rods and Relics. I am busier now than ever.

OUR PRESIDENTS THOUGHTS

Club members can be extremely proud of the final results of the June 5 Downtown Lincoln Car Show. Over 290 vehicles lined the down-town streets of Lincoln ... a new record!!

Vendors filled the block on "F" Street between 5th and 6th Streets. Thousands of spectators toured the area looking at the vast array of beautiful cars and trucks on display.

A huge "Thank You!!" to our co-chairs Ray Geiger and Kent Parsell, the committee chairs, and all of the volunteers who came together to ensure our success! Thoughts and ideas have already been turned in to make the June 4, 2011 Car Show even bigger and better!

The proceeds of $10, 800.00 allowed checks of $3,600.00 to be distributed to three non-profit organizations: Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (presented on June 17), the Light-house Counseling & Family Services (presented on June 24 at its open house), and Ride To Walk (presented on July 1).

In the meantime, local events abound. Check our website www.rodsnrelics.net to review all of the events and select those that you want to participate in. There is something for every-one so come on out!!

Keep Judy Rezendes, our Activities Director, informed so that a coordinator can be identified. The coordinator selects the place and time to meet so Club members can caravan to the event as a group.

Here's to safe cruising and having fun ... enjoy the summer!!

Juvenile Diabetes Re-search Fund representative, Dave Kasama, a Special Events Coordinator for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, was very ap-preciative that his organiza-tion was selected as one of the three recipients of the proceeds from our Car Show. He was impressed with the show itself and touted the “good organiza-tion” that made it such a success. He gave a very

thorough explanation of what JDRF does with the donations it receives, ex-plaining that 85% of all funds go directly for re-search. He said there has been a lot of progress; in-sulin pumps, smart insulin etc. but no cure as yet. He then presented a picture, drawn by a young boy with diabetes depicting the nee-dles he would like to ban, to the Club and received a check in the amount of

$3600. for the JDRF from our President, Rich Ragan.

TREASURER’S REPORT

Craig Kirkpatrick ex-plained his Financial Re-port and our new ending balance as of 6/15/10 of $2670.85. We have 27 paid members at present with dues due by the end of June. Our Post Office Box rent became due and the cost of the website—two essentials, especially the

website which thanks to David Fibush is great and holds a huge amount of information, thanks also to Tom Kirkbride and his camera. Mike Roby made a motion to approve the Re-port as read and was 2nd by Dennis Malone, all ap-proved.

Rich Ragan opened the meeting by asking for the Secretary’s report. The membership was asked if they had read the minutes in the Newsletter and all said, “Yes”, and there were no corrections or additions so Judi Fibush made a mo-tion to approve the minutes and Elna Ragan 2nd the move, all approved.

We had 6 club members awards at the Thunderbolts “Thunder in the Park” Show Alan Taylor won a 4’ Best of Show Trophy with his roadster pickup, Al Mangini won the Gar Pe-ters Memorial Trophy & Norm Penrice, George Funk , Murrill Conley & Ray Geiger each won a Top “22” Award Plaque.

Ray Blasquez introduced John Boland who was at-tending his 2nd meeting and still wanting to jin the club. Ray put this up for a vote, all approved. Ray then introduced Bob & Sue Pretel who also still want to join us and they too were voted in as new members.

John tells us he has a Pontiac Chieftan, green & white. Bob & Sue Pretel

have a ‘59 Corvette they also like to drive and show. They are welcome addi-tions to the club. Rick and Valerie Hahn of Nevada City attended their first meeting to check our club out as they are interested in joining the club with their 1930 Model A and ‘56 Chevy 210. Valerie is also an avid seamstress who makes really cute purses, some with a car motif.

Elna Ragan has been selected as the new Sunshine Lady and has already brought sunshine into the lives of Eva Alves and Mike Roby with her imagina-tive flower arrangements.

Rich Ragan then read the following statement: “Associate Membership is available to anyone who has been a member in good

They may, however, serve on commit-tees.” The statement would be added to our By-Laws. After some discussion, Ralph Garcia made a motion to

Please note, in my search

for help with the vendors I found very few that did not sign up for a committee. I did call Alan Taylor who said he had signed up to clean up afterwards, but would come earlier to help.

We do have a very hard working club, but hopefully some things will get easier as we learn more each year.

Kent Parsell reported that the date of the car show next year will be June 4, and already confirmed by the city of Lin-coln. He is working on find-ing spaces for more cars and vendors. He gave a check to Craig to close out the show account from the VFW ac-count. He then proceeded to bestow on the Chairmen of various committees a plaque for all their work on the Car

Trivia Question

The MACH 1 Mustang first appeared in what model year.

Answer on last page

Breakfast at the Waffle Farm has become a regular tradition for many member families. Everyone is welcome to attend, sunny days bring your show ride. Waffle Farm Breakfasts for July are the 6th & 20th. We don’t caravan anymore, we meet up at the Waffle Farm, 815 Twelve Bridges Dr. Lincoln at 8:30 AM for a fine breakfast with a bunch of really nice folks who have even bet-ter cars and love to talk about them. 'Ya'll Come!

Dave Widmer took home this plaque for his car as the “Best Hot Rod” at Strikes June 16th Show.

Judy Rezendes proudly displays the plaque her El Camino won as Strikes Choice at the June 16 Show.

HOT DAZE-HOT CARS

Sunday, June 27th, the Capital City Cruisers Hot Daze-Hot Cars Show was held at Rusch Park in Citrus Heights. It was a lovely and very warm day in a park with lots of trees and shade.

Due to the heat, they graciously ended the show early so most folks were on their way home by 2:30 in the afternoon.

Rosd n Relics was represented by the two cars of Dave Widmer and Dave & Judi Fibush. Rich-ard Reidburn and Jonathan Boland, wife Bridget and daugh-ter, Emma, came sans cars to cheer us on. It was a nice show with about 100+ cars and some interesting new/old ones we hadn’t seen before. Our 1949 Tu-dor Ford, “Daisy” received a first place trophy for the 1940’s class.

Nice time but probably the last we will attend with heat like that. Judi Fibush

FATHERS DAY SHOW

TOWNSMEN POKER RUN

June 19th in the Auburn Fairgrounds representing the Rods & Relics were: the McVeys, the Fibushes, Gene Record & Dory, Dave Widmer & Kathy, Red Taylor with Mike Roby and Ray Geiger.

It was a perfect day for a Car Show, about like ours. The registration at the old Jimboy’s on Taylor Road was a busy place. All the Poker Run people left after we did as we weren’t in the Run part. When we arrived we found many others that didn’t want to wander the beautiful countryside looking for cards for a poker hand.

They had music all day, a few vendors, lots of raffles and provided a hearty lunch. They also took a picture of every car as we entered with the winners pictures to be on the plaque they receive. The printer quit so they will get them mailed to them.

The Poker Run winners did quite well although our club members didn’t come home with first prize of $300 or the other two cash prizes. The revenue from the show supports many Christmas projects for families and kids in need.

It was a fun show, had a good day and will definitely want to return next year.

Trivia Answer: 1969, like the beauty below!

Judy Rezendes was the leader on Fathers Day bringing Richard Reidburn, Charlie Spear, Tom & Dorothy Atkinson, Jon Solander, Rich Ragan, Ray Geiger, Dennis Malone, Larry Hickerson, Kent Parsell and Ralph Garcia, to Escaton Village to display their cars.

A very pleasant two hours with the folks, then lunch "on the house." Although there were no prizes, I think Jon Solander's 1929 Model A was the hit of the show. They all wanted to see the rumble seat.
