Provide a grant for 18 s.h. of ESL endorsement coursework with a STEM focus
Work with paraprosand administratorsto find successful models for academic assistance to ELLs
Give administrators of multilingual districts chances to network and problem solve together and provide topics of mutual interest
Provide focus on language of STEM and how to teach it to ELLs
Provide opportunities for families to interact meaningfully with the school in bidirectional relationships (all learn from each other)
Provide workshops in aspects of second language acquisition and instruction of English language learners

2012-2013 ~ The Year in Review
• Goal: help in-service teachers complete the ESL endorsement– 20 students in Cohort A completed courses in June 2013!– 21 students in Cohort B in second year of grant coursework– 21 students started Cohort C this fall
• Goal: provide professional development for inservice teachers– 14 inservice teachers for Parents as Educational Partners 2 day
training– 19 inservice administrators for Perfect March 6 session

• Goal: provide support for paraprofessionals and potential paraprofessionals – 10 community members became
paraprofessionals or substitute teachers in Year 2
• Goal: provide professional development for education school faculty about ESL– 6 NCE faculty took part in a book group and
discussion

The Year in Review
• Goal: provide coursework leading to ESL endorsement for pre-service students – 5 students began coursework in Summer 2013
• Goal: develop an evaluation plan for the ELL Parent Center– Submitted and received permission from
Institutional Review Board to conduct parent surveys, survey written and administered for first time in June 2013

• Goal: provide bidirectional support for parents, community members, teachers, and students to enrich role of community for STEM success for ELLs – Three large public presentations by nationally known
presenters open to the public and streamed/podcast • Additionally, data to assess performance of
students by teachers trained in the STEM focused ESL cohort has been designed
