Highlands Welcome Back Update September 12, 2016
Dear Highlands’ Families, I am very happy to welcome you back to a new and exciting year at Highlands; our Place For Learning. For our returning families and our new families, we have spent the past two months preparing for our doors to open to this 2016-‐2017 school year. Your child’s learning experiences and successes at Highlands are foremost in our planning, and I can assure you they will have a wonderful year in their classrooms with a faculty and staff that is fully dedicated to each one of our young learners and their families. We have several new staff members who have joined our Highlands’ team this year. We’re very fortunate to have McKayla Catto join us as a fourth grade teacher and Kayla Awiscus, Jordan Ciaramitaro, and Nichole Lowe as teacher assistants at Highlands. We are also very excited to share with you that Karen Mansfield will join Highlands as our full-‐time computer paraprofessional. Mrs. Mansfield will be working collaboratively with our teaching staff to further develop our use of technology in classrooms. I am honored to be Principal of Highlands School and to work our amazing Highlands’ community. I am always available and very much enjoy the conversations I have with our families. Thank you for your support; we have a wonderful year ahead of us! Liz Matthews, Principal

SAVERS FUNDRAISER FOR HIGHLANDS
Please watch for information on our Savers Fundraiser. If you’re in the mood for some fall cleaning, our PAC will be collecting items on Friday November 4 for pick up on Saturday November 5. This was a very successful fundraiser last year, and we’re looking forward to another hefty collection of unwanted items.
Highlands’ Parent Advisory Council (PAC)
I have the distinct privilege of working with a very dedicated PAC Executive Board that represents our Highlands’ families in support of education at Highlands School. They work on behalf of our students in their planning of events and programs that enhance learning in the classroom. Your Executive Board for the 2016/2017 Year:
Jenn Moccia, President Michelle Norbaka, Co-‐Vice President Melissa Forest, Co-‐Vice President
Jen Petroccione, Treasurer Renee Glover, Secretary Paula Vogel, Secretary
Cultural Enrichment Coordinators
Dawn Gasinowski Deidre Roy
Please join their efforts by attending our monthly PAC Meetings and by volunteering for our many events and fundraisers. The first meeting to be held on September 21 is a wonderful opportunity to meet the board, to share ideas, and to get to know our Highlands’ families.
The Danvers Public Schools is a dynamic community of independent learners dedicated to respect, responsibility, creativity, and the pursuit of academic
and personal excellence.
