How these can be used in class or at home:

I will attach each mountain to the appropriate continent on the CC Map that we use during Geography time. During our New Grammar time, I will just point to each mountain as we repeat the names of the mountains. We will do this 3-4 times. I will then have them sing our “Continents” song and shout out the ap-propriate mountain name afterwards. (Go here if you do not know the song: http://thehomeschoolden.blogspot.com/2009/09/seven-continents.html) So, we will start with Europe as the song does. We will say,

Europe ELBRUS. Asia EVEREST. Africa KILIMANJARO. North America MCKINLEY. South America ACONCAGUA. Don’t forget Antartica VINSON MASSIF And Australila KOSCIUSZKO. The seven continents. The seven continents.

I have several sets included in this packet. The first set has the name of the mountain and the continent. I will use this one with my Abecedarians. The second set has only the mountain name. This can be used for older classes who need more of a challenge. They will have to remember the respective continent on their own. The final set is just the names of the continents. If you print off the 2 pages with only mountain names and only continent names, you could use those cards as a “Concentration” game. The child would have to find “North America” when he/she turns over “McKinley.” This could be a review game during Review time. You could also make 2 sets of the mountain names and continent names. Divide your class into two teams. Have them race to put together the appropriate mountain with the appropriate continent. The first team wins! Or, the 2 teams could “relay” back and forth to pick up the moun-tains and continent cards one at a time. Once each team has all cards, the teams can work together to match mountain with continent. The first team to accomplish this correctly is the winner!

Enjoy! :)Suzanne
