Dear Student

Welcome to the 2013 Manchester Higher Education Convention, organised by UCAS in conjunction with The University of Manchester.

We hope that you find the Convention useful in helping determine your Higher Education institution choices, over 140 of which, from across the country, are represented at the Convention. You will also have the opportunity to obtain information from many other exhibitors on what you can do before, during and after your time in Higher Education.

As well as universities and colleges, there are a number of organisations in attendance to advise you on your year out possibilities, specific careers options, postgraduate opportunities and much more.

To get the most out of your visit, you are encouraged to speak to as many exhibitors as possible. They are here to answer any questions you might have about the courses on offer, including their content and entry requirements, as well as student life, accommodation and anything else you might want to know.

Also, don’t forget to check the seminar programme to see if there are any seminars of interest to you.

With best wishes,

Alyssa PhillipsThe University of Manchester

The choice is yours

Trusted to deliver excellence

Today

Tomorrow

Anything is possible. If we didn’t believe that, we wouldn’t be where we are today. It’s a way of thinking that drives everything we do. Every product we make, every service we provide. It’s an attitude that makes us think the best is always yet to come. That the next big discovery is just around the corner. It’s an understanding on the part of everyone who works here that with hard work and clear direction, we can have the career we want.

Whether you’re looking for a summer internship or an apprenticeship, a work experience placement or a graduate programme that moulds future leaders, Rolls-Royce has an opportunity for you. All you need to do is take it.

For the first time the UCAS Manchester Convention will include an area specifically dedicated to employers. This area, or

“CareerZone”, will include a selection of companies that are keen to speak to you about employment opportunities. These employers will have a selection

of employment routes that might be right for you – from the traditional graduate path, to sponsored degrees, apprenticeships, internships and much, much more.

We know that you have a lot to cover, but we urge you to include a trip to the CareerZone area of the exhibition today. This will enable you to speak to a wide variety of employers who can help you decide what’s best for you, and explain what they look for in the students that they employ. If you don’t know quite what the future might hold, or what all your work options are, the companies here today will be on hand to answer any questions you might have.

CareerZone seminars

In addition to meeting employers on the stands, you will also have the opportunity to hear some of the employers speak in the seminar rooms today. The companies involved will be giving short presentations on what their companies have to offer students, and why you should be considering an eventual career with them. For the exact timings of these seminars, please see page 4.
