What is thiscourse about?The Higher Certificate in Business Management, at NQF level 5, is an entry level qualification that provides students with the required competencies to pursue various entry-level managerial roles.

Business Management

This module is designed to equip students with the required academic knowledge and skills for successful completion of their programme online. The module explores: various strategies and techniques for studying effectively, problem solving and logic, building effective reading and academic writing skills, as well as preparing students for assessment throughout their studies

Academic Literacy

Module description

You will be introduced to the fundamentals of business management and gain insight into business operations and general management functions, including planning, leading, organising, motivating, and control within any organisation. You will also explore entrepreneurship and discover the importance of a business plan.

Module 4

Principles of Leadership

Topics covered include traditional functions and the new role of HR Management, South African labour regulations and its application in the workplace, contemporary approaches to training, development and learning, as well as strategic leadership and people management.

Human Resource Management

Module description

Learn the concepts and theories of: knowledge of self, others and groups, communication, motivation, and core leadership principles. You will gain the leadership skills needed to effectively manage yourself and others.

Module 6

Finance for Managers

This module introduces you to the foundational concepts and practices in Marketing. You will gain an understanding of how marketing creates customer value while learning about the 7 Ps of the marketing mix, and also focus on the market place, the marketing environment and how to manage within a macro environment. Additional topics include consumer behaviour, market analysis, market research, and customer relationship management.

Marketing Management Literacy

Module description

This module introduces you to key financial concepts, which will be of particular benefit to those studying finance for the first time. Gain the knowledge and practical skills needed to participate in financial-related business activities, covering topics such as financial management, financial statements, budgeting, risk and return, working capital, and more.

Develop an essential understanding of this critical field for success in business. This module is suitable for students starting out in project management, and those wanting to improve their skills in the successful planning and delivery of projects.

How youwill learn

The mode of instruction for the programme is distance learning with textbooks and a strong internet-supported component. Study packs are couriered which contain study and programme guides. Students will have access to iCan, our innovative student portal. The use of iCan is compulsory for online learning activities.

This qualification follows a teaching and learning plan where students are required to work through the learning content, activities and assessments according to the plan. This teaching and learning plan as well as the assignment due dates are made available to all students via the iCan Calendar.

Students will also have access to a Programme Lecturer via iCan as well as administrative and technical support provided by our Student Experience and Support teams.

If you do not meet the minimum requirement, you may still enrol on the basis of relevant work experience or mature age exemption.

Foreign learners are required to obtain a SAQA equivalent of your qualification and a study/work permit.

Once you’ve completed this programme, you will earn a NQF level 5, 120 credit certificate titled, Higher Certificate: Business Management.

All Higher Certificates are registered with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and accredited by the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC) of the Council of Higher Education (CHE).

You will receive your qualification subject to successfully completing and passing all required modules, having settled any outstanding fees and submitted all required documentation. Certificates will be awarded at a formal graduation ceremony or delivered via courier.
