• THE HIGHER CERTIFICATE IN ICT PREPARES STUDENTS FOR PROFESSIONAL CAREERS IN

INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY AND SPECIFICALLY IN THE FIELD OF IT

SERVICES MANAGEMENT.

• IT STRIVES TO ENCOURAGE UNIVERSITY AND TVET COLLABORATION WITH SEAMLESS

ARTICULATION FOR TVET STUDENTS INTO THE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

• THERE IS AN ONGOING NEED FOR A WIDE RANGE OF HIGHLY SKILLED INFORMATION

TECHNOLOGY PERSONNEL IN SOUTH AFRICA.

• AS THE FIELD IS SUBJECT TO RAPID TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGE, IT REQUIRES PROFESSIONALS

WHO ARE WELL TRAINED IN IT SERVICES MANAGEMENT.

• A CAREER PATH IN THIS FIELD RANGES FROM AN IT SERVICE DESK TRAINEE TO IT SERVICE

MANAGER.

• IN THE CASE OF AN UMALUSI MATRICULANT:

• HOME LANGUAGE 50%,

• FIRST ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE 40%

• ONE OF THE LANGUAGES MUST BE ENGLISH.

• MATHEMATICS 40% OR MATHS LITERACY 60%

• THESE AFOREMENTIONED COMPULSORY SUBJECTS, PLUS 3 ADDITIONAL SUBJECTS (EXCLUDING LIFE

• THE TOP 20 ACADEMICALLY PERFORMING STUDENTS AT EACH OF THE COLLEGES IN THE

HIGHER CERTIFICATE IN ICT WILL AUTOMATICALLY GET ACCEPTED TO THE DIPLOMA IN ICT.

• 50% OF SUBJECT CREDITS OF THE HIGHER CERTIFICATE IN ICT CAN BE CARRIED OVER TO THE

FIRST YEAR OF THE DIPLOMA IN ICT.

• STUDENTS WILL ALSO BE ALLOWED TO REGISTER FOR TWO SECOND YEAR SUBJECTS OF THE

DIPLOMA.

• MEET BRANDON VAN NIEKERK WHO COMPLETED THE HC IN 2015.

• HE HAS BEEN EMPLOYED BY BUSINESS CONNEXION BASED ON HIS HC

QUALIFICATION AS A DATA CABLING ENGINEER IN THE CABLING DEPARTMENT.

• DATA CABLING ENGINEERS FULFIL AN ESSENTIAL ROLE IN THE MODERN WORLD BY DESIGNING THE

COMPLEX CABLE PLANS FOR TELECOMMUNICATION SYSTEMS, INCLUDING THE LAY OUT STRUCTURES FOR

EQUIPMENT INSTALLATIONS AS WELL AS EXPANSIONS FOR EXISTING DATA SYSTEMS. IN

ADDITION, THEY SOLVE TECHNICAL ENGINEERING PROBLEMS RELATING TO CABLE SYSTEMS.
