The challenges of high ceiling environments

Solutions that workAt Philips Lighting, we understand the challenges you face in managing your high-bay environment and we have a range of solutions to fit your needs. We can recommend the best products for spaces using traditional HIDs, which might be a fluorescent solution. Alternatively we can advise you on the new generation of low maintenance, energy saving LEDs – designed to enhance light quality, drive down cost and reduce carbon footprint. In short we can help make it easy for you.

Brighter spacesWell-lit, high ceiling environments are not just a ‘nice to have’, they are a legal requirement. When you have no room for error, you’ll appreciate the health and safety benefits of lighting solutions that provide uniform light, no dark patches and good colour rendering. Employees and customers will feel better too, boosting productivity or smooth flow through your space.

Reducing maintenanceHigh ceilings traditionally mean expensive maintenance work. Just arranging access can be a major spike in your running costs and that’s even before you factor in lamp replacement costs. Add disruption and loss of productivity to that and it’s a major interruption to ‘business as usual’. Our products have a reputation for reliability and with the introduction of long lifetime LEDs, further cost reductions are possible.

Health and wellbeingBetter light quality means increased comfort. When people feel better they work better, which means increased productivity, so everyone’s happy. Our new generation of high-bay lighting gives more consistent light coverage, with no dark areas and better colour rendering, so workers can do their jobs more comfortably and customers can feel the benefits too.

Reducing carbon footprintIncreasingly, organisations are being challenged by partners, associates or by government to reduce their carbon footprint. Reducing your carbon emissions through energy efficient lighting is a good way and with LED giving energy savings of up to 60% it’s proof that lighting can make a valuable contribution to reducing the costs associated with the carbon you produce.

Achieving business goalsWhen we say we understand the challenges you face, we mean from a commercial perspective too, not just a lighting one. Our pedigree in lighting means we’re uniquely placed to be able to listen to you, understand your situation and advise on appropriate solutions to meet your business needs. We know that every customer requirement is different and also that recommending the right lighting solution for you can directly affect your profitability. And that’s good for business.

High-bay environments are unique – and the challenges you face as an owner or operator are many and various. With increased emphasis on cost and energy efficiency and with high cost and major disruption associated with maintenance, reviewing your lighting solution, especially in the light of new technology, is a must.

Bright solutions for your businessA consultancy approachWe know we can help you achieve your business goals through effective lighting. We also know that everyone’s lighting requirements are unique, so we will always make sure we fully understand your requirements before we recommend a solution. Our consultancy approach ensures that we only ever specify what works best for you.

Picking up on trendsWe can keep you up to date with the latest trends in lighting, which can in turn pay dividends for your business. Take ‘pick to light’ for example, where just the relevant area will illuminate, effectively guiding workers to exactly the right place to pick their product, saving time and energy and helping improve business efficiency.

Comfortable workers, effective brandingHealth and safety is always an important topic. Our new generation of LED solutions is especially effective for lighting high-bay spaces evenly, improving visibility and reducing the chance of accidents, and making workspaces more comfortable to be in by increasing feelings of health and wellbeing. Attractive, efficient lighting is good for your brand too.

Advanced solutionsThe evolution of technology creates more opportunities for cost savings and flexibility. Innovation in light sources is being matched by innovation in lighting controls, which used together in combination offer you more. With technology always improving, we can now offer both dimmable and controllable fluorescent and LED solutions that work with advanced lighting control systems ensuring you always have light only where and when it is needed.

Before

After

Our innovative application of LED technology helped Royal Mail deliver a first class solution, by reducing energy and maintenance costs while providing excellent light quality that also helped improve productivity. The Northamptonshire based 30-acre site employs over 700 people and handles letters and parcels for over 60 mail centres – accounting for 40% of the UK’s mail. Working in partnership with Romec, we created a bespoke LED lighting scheme that delivered cost and energy saving benefits without compromising light quality. Our solution used long lifetime GentleSpace LED, the first high bay luminaire that can be used as a direct replacement for HIDs of up to 400W. The scheme saves Royal Mail circa £9000 / €11,000 a year in energy costs and 61,712kg of CO2 making it a truly sustainable solution.

AfterBefore

Sigron, a wholesale company based in Dornbirn, Austria supplies cleaning chemicals, machines, equipment and accessories. Their large 350 m2 distribution centre has around 4,300 palette slots and approximately 4,000 items of stock. Built in 1996, the original single fluorescent tube fittings, with mirrors and reflectors had become tired and urgently needed replacement. The new lighting solution needed to provide high-quality lighting, save energy and be durable and low maintenance. In addition, the company needed to meet chemical storage requirements, including low heat generation and high moisture resistance. GentleSpace LED was chosen for its high quality light output, and met the client’s demands for uniform light distribution on all shelving levels – to provide more visual comfort and safety. As a result, wellbeing and productivity in the distribution centre were increased.
