Cheating on SSC school exams has become so prevalent in Andhra Pradesh that some have labeled the examination halls as copy halls. Invigilators who are supposed to stop cheating in the exam halls are many times the very ones that are helping the students to do the cheating. Why is all this cheat- ing going on? First, is the inordinate love of money. Many private schools pay the invigilators to help their stu- dents as they will get more admis- sions in the coming academic year if all their students pass with high scores. The Bible teaches that the love of money is the root of all evil. “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” I Timothy 6:10 A young student who is thus taught to cheat in his young years will grow up with a distorted view of how real success is to be achieved in life. In- stead of working hard and earning his own way, he will have a tendency to try to find a short cut rather than liv- ing honestly and upright. This influ- ence of cheating will encourage, later in life, other types of cheating such CHEATING AND ITS RESULTS as stealing, lying and adultery. Self- ishness is the root of all sin; selfish- ness will encourage someone to put their desires above the rights and well being of others. Some students study hard and learn their subjects well; is it fair that another person who did not study properly should be allowed the short cut of cheating and making an equal grade? The reason for the exam is to show who learned their subject well enough to be competent in society. The lazy person who re- lies on cheating will generally not work hard and thus is unsuitable for a position which a diligent person should have. When cheating becomes prevalent in society at large the degradation of the people will be seen in an ineffective goverment and service to the gen- eral public. Everyone will be looking for shortcut ways to make money rather than doing honest labor for an honest days pay. Government offi- cials, instead of being public servants to help society, view the common people as ways to make extra funds through bribes. People who refuse or cannot afford to pay the bribe, do not get the government service or help. Thus the service or provision that is supposed to reach the people is many times held back by the greed of the Recognized by Govt. of A.P, I - X selfish officials, and society at large suffers. People do not lie, cheat and steal because they are in poverty, but people are in poverty because they lie, cheat and steal. A young student who is thus taughtto cheat in his young years will growup with a distorted view of how realsuccess is to be achieved in life. The solution to this problem is formankind to realize that he is part of alarge united family. Later I quit that post andjoined with Acharya Nagarjuna Univer-sity (ANU)in Guntur, AP. as an Assist.Professor of Journalism and Mass Com-munication. I later quit my post withNagarjuna as I obtained the Central po-sition with the Central University of Kash-mir (CUK)

Tony Suckla: Why did you quit your jobwith the state government?

Dr.John Babu: When I married, my wifeand family taught me about the seventhday Sabbath, but the state position re-quired attendance on Sabbath day. So Isought for either a private or Central gov-ernment job that is five day work weeks.

Tony Suckla: How are you adjusting tothe climate of far north India, physically, socially, politically?

Dr.John Babu: Physically, I had to ad-just to the harsh cold of the winter, but Iwas delighted to see snow for the firsttime. Politically, it is much different fromthe rest of India as there are some Re-gionalism disputes, but I focus on my Jobbringing honor to my University. Socially,my family is not so excited about com-ing this far north, but we have to adjustin that regard also.

Tony Suckla: What advice would yougive to young student today?

Dr.John Babu: I would encourage thestudents to be faithful to Truth and to up-right moral, spiritual, and ethical values. Also, work hard to achieve their goals inlife.
