David E. Daniel is the fourth president

of The University of Texas at Dallas. He

received his bachelor's, master's, and

Ph.D. degrees in engineering from

The University of Texas at Austin, and

served on the faculty at UT Austin

from 1980 to 1996. In 1996, he moved

to the University of Illinois, finishing

his service there as Dean of Engineer-

ing before being appointed UT Dallas'

president in 2005.

During his presidency, UT Dallas has doubled its research

expenditures, initiated or completed $300 million of

construction of new buildings, added 23 new degree

programs, raised $125 million in private funds, and won two

national collegiate championships in chess.

He has advocated widely for UT Dallas to become one of thenation's top research universities, focusing on hiring excep-

tional faculty members, attracting top students, delivering a

quality education, expanding diversity, and partnering with

the community in research, education, outreach, the arts,

and technology commercialization. The approach that he

suggested for creating more top-tier research universities in

Texas gained widespread support that led to two legislative

initiatives that pumped more than $500 million of state funds

into this effort. His work on this legislation led to his being

named a finalist for “Texan of the Year” by the Dallas Morning

News in December, 2009.

Eddie DeenFounder

Eddie Deen Catering

Eddie Deen is a proud Texan, born in

1956, who grew up on a working Ranch

in Wills Point, Texas. From an early age,

he learned the value of hard work,

determination and friendship. In 1979,

Eddie graduated from Texas A&MUniversity with a degree in Agriculture.

After returning home in 1980, Eddie

opened his first restaurant on the shores

of Lake Tawakoni. At that time, Eddie

began applying scientific methods to

the meat smoking process. This careful attention to detail

brought Eddie Deen fame not only statewide, but also nationallyas the top barbecue caterer in Texas.

For the past 30 years Eddie has become an ambassador of Texas

hospitality and food. After being chosen to cater Gov. George

Bush's 1994 Inauguration, the business flourished. Since then

Eddie has catered 4 other inaugurations, both gubernatorial and

presidential, many charitable galas, all around the world toSwitzerland and Mauritius, weddings, corporate conventions and

even to his family at home each evening.

In 2000, Eddie began visiting homeless shelters in the Dallas area

to seek and understand the underlying cause of this epidemic.

He continued on to conduct classes at the MLK center teaching

individuals how to overcome past conditioning when repeatedly

finding themselves in contact with the law.

Eddie is the proud father of five, and the grandfather of Cessie,

Ace, and Dallen. Eddie and his wife Allison reside in Rockwall with

the three younger children. Eddie enjoys playing the piano,
