GUIDE TO NEW ANSI CUT LEVELS

Tuff-N-Lite® adheres to the F2992/F2992M-15 Standards which are typically used in North America. In Europe, Northern Africa and Australia, testing is normally done under the EN (European Committee for Standardization) or European Norm. It is misleading to advertise test data in North America using EN data as information can be misunderstood as having a higher cut value.

There are five critical areas directly exposed to sharp edges that significantly increase the chance of a severe injury. These areas are:

Tuff-N-Lite® offers protection in all these critical areas as well as the non-critical areas such as the torso and chest area and are comfortable to wear all day. Tuff-N-Lite® adheres to the ASTM Standards which are typically used in North America and provides F2992/F2992M-15 on our line of cut resistance PPE. We have a range of garments to select from, providing you the coverage and protection you need.

WITH TUFF-N-LITE® GARMENTS YOU CAN FEEL COMFORTABLE, SAFE AND PROTECTED.

NECK – The most often overlooked area, however with the high potential of severity associated with the laceration of the carotid artery; it’s paramount this area is protected.

WRIST – This area needs a high level of protection due to contact use of the hand in the production and handling of glass; however, even a small laceration can sever the ulnar artery running through the wrist.

UNDERARM – During the handling of glass, the axillary artery could be exposed, therefore protection of the area is among the critical areas.

INNER LEG – The femoral artery runs through the inner leg, and although may not be directly exposed to glass as the wrist and neck, this area could be exposed to falling or fractured glass and should be protected as well.

Since HANDS are the most frequently cut area of the body, special protection needs to be utilized. Suggested use of the layered protection is stated in the ASTM guidelines, specifically a cut resistant glove liner to be used with a separate glove for gripping the glass.

Tuff-N-Lite®’s patented fibers are knit into a unique fabric to make an ultra cooling and moisture wick base layer garment. The patented yarn is hydrophobic (rejects water) and extremely dense with a very slick surface. Much more so than the other hydrophobic olefins on the market (polypropylene). Due to the slickness of the surface, moisture travels rapidly by capillary action away from the moisture source. This is the instantly tangible cooling sensation you feel when you touch the garment. As compared to other competitor fabrics of equal weight and purpose, our material can cool the skin’s surface temperature up to 9 degrees more.

The thermal images were taken in an ambient temperature controlled environment. With the help

of a power/wattage meter hooked to the stationary bike, the subject was pedaling at an equal effort for four separate sessions and the images were shot after 5 minutes of work. The competitor product (leading brand of similar material weight and fashion) was shot after 5 minutes of work with no air movement and 5 minutes of work with a fan blowing at 5 mph directly at the subject. The same scenario was done for the Lite-N-CoolTM product.
