And God said “Let there be Hidden Treasure…..”

• An Ozaukee School Board member had the vision for a resale shop to provide a sustainable funding source for the school. The idea was first discussed in April 2010.

• We had a model to use as a resource (in a nearby town that benefits a different Christian school).

• A building was provided for us, rent free for one year (September 2010).

• Donors provided funding for our start up costs.

• A closed resale shop in a nearby town donated our “seed” items – 3 storage units’ worth! Daughter of building owner, visionary

Board member and soon-to-be manager

God provided all we needed. Our initial store manager, first was a volunteer for us. She and her husband also did the initial set-up of the store and collected racks, a check out desk and other fixtures that were all donated from a closed mall in Milwaukee. She also coordinated work nights to get the store opened. All of this was done on a volunteer basis (August-November 2010). ONLY GOD.

One of the MANY volunteer work nights to get the shop ready to open – primarily

alumni or community members“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others.” (I Peter 4:10)

Prior to opening the shop our volunteers got the store ready!

• Painted walls.• Hung door & mirrors in changing room.• LOTS of cleaning, wiping and dusting!• Washed windows.• Cleaned and hung glass shelving.• Cleaned both bathrooms.• Developed a plan for storage in the basement.• Took down lattice and replaced light bulbs.• Basically – cleaned EVERYTHING.• “They” were primarily alumni parents (and students) who

believed in the mission of OCS and wanted to give back to the school that gave them so much.

Moving Day lead to Opening Day!• With great excitement, on

October 30, 2010, materials were moved from storage units into the shop.

• Final preparations were completed and Hidden Treasure Resale Shop opened its doors on December 1, 2010, a mere seven months after the concept was first even discussed at an Ozaukee School Board meeting. Only by the hand of God! Welcome to our first customers

How Hidden Treasure blesses others.

• Provides income to Ozaukee Christian School that is applied directly to budget to help keep tuition affordable for our families, which in turn benefits all of our students!

• Provides very reasonably priced clothing, housewares, furniture, shoes etc. for people in our community. Pastors know that they can contact us if there is a need within their church.

• Advocates (abused women shelter) bring kids and their moms at Mother’s Day. Kids can select some jewelry for their moms and make them a card with the help of OCS Student Leadership Council.

• Provides opportunities for disabled adults to gain valuable work experience through our cooperative community partnership with Portal Industries.

Hidden Treasure Looks to the Future

Should our volunteerism through Hidden Treasure Resale Shop secure a grant, we would prayerfully begin to build a program that enables special needs children to be a part of Ozaukee Christian School. A Bible-based, Christian education is currently not available to special needs children within a radius of approximately 40 miles. We believe that all children are created in His image and seek to meet their educational and spiritual needs!
