Having played well of late the team were rightly confident ahead of tonight’s match, non more so than Mark Anderson on the back of his stunning 7 birdie round of 67 (4 under gross) on Saturday to force a play off for the Centenary Cup. We all wish him well in his play off. Tonight’s weather however was far from stunning as the worst of the elements swept torrential rain into Heworth that Noah and his Ark would have struggled with! Despite the atrocious conditions we must give huge credit to Peter Vinton and his Greens Staff for the presentation of the golf course and the manner in which it stood up to the sheer volume of water thrown at it. However, undeterred and showing great character the boys set about the task of securing a win against a dogged Whickham side. There were some good wins for the team tonight and some great golf on display, with both sets of players showing a never quit attitude, summed up on the night by three of the last four matches going down the 18th. Good wins for Mark McAllister, who hit a fabulous knocked down 3 wood to 4 feet on the last to win his match 2UP, and for our own comeback kid Nigel Ralph who having never led all night dug in to sink a great putt on the last to grind out a win. Will Marshall got back to winning ways emerging victorious in a tight match for his first win of the season, and John Scott secured another solid win as Heworth began to dominate. Two very comfortable wins for Mark Anderson and Aaron Scott, the latter of who now boasts the teams only 100% league record and heads up the player of the season stats after a saturated Jason McGuire succumbed to a narrow defeat on the 18th green. Special mentions to our reserves Micky and Chris, IPC Neil Corbett, the Scott’s, and Brian Patterson (the oldest caddy in town taking the bag of the red hot Mark Anderson). We also extended a warm welcome to our newest team member Lawry Cook, who despite the fowl weather walked the course with the team, giving encouragement throughout. We look forward to you making your debut in Heworth colours Lawry (especially with that +2 handicap ), and joining our efforts to secure honours this season. Next in the league, another home match against City of Newcastle on the 11th June: See you there! Thanks again to all players, caddies and supporters! #teamheworth #loveheworth 12 2 Tuesday 4th June 2019 at Heworth GC Will Marshall Aaron Scott Jason McGuire John Scott Nigel Ralph Mark McAllister 7 & 5 2 2 2 Heworth Win Name RESULT pts Name pts T J Bell Colin Teesdale Chris Sutton Les Frizzell Brian Levey Michael Lamb Robbie Cornish Mark Anderson 2 2 2 2 1 UP 1 UP 2 & 1 5 & 3 1 UP 2 UP
