“Voice for the Army - Support for the Soldier”
Welcome to our second quarterly issue of your Chapter newsletter. It
is our hope that you will receive these at least quarterly. Your Board is under-
going some changes. We have established two new Vice President positions.
The VP-Membership will oversee both Individual as well as Corporate mem-
bership, and should eventually establish both an Individual Membership Committee and a
Corporate Membership Committee. The VP-Events will be involved with all kinds of
events to include fundraising and educational programs. These VPs have full authority to
operate as they see fit within their areas of responsibility so long as they “don’t put us all
in jail or deplete the bank account”. Please feel free to email me at [email protected] with
any comments or suggestions you may have regarding this chapter, and about this
newsletter.

We still have quite a ways to go to meet our membership goals. Membership is
key to the success and influence of AUSA. A large national membership base allows
AUSA to be fulfill its mission to lobby for the Army’s needs before Congress. A large local
chapter membership allows AUSA to better support the Army at the local level
Events and membership go hand in hand. More events mean more members.
More events and more members should result in more funds. More funds definitely mean
more support for the Soldier.
It is planned to have the new VPs keep us all posted on their activities. This will
include separate articles for publication in this newsletter (on page two).

EVENTS
Above is our current calendar of major events. Our new Vice-
President--Events will soon be announcing some exciting new events. It is
a little early to mention them now. One goal is to have an annual signa-
ture event that involves the entire community. Another is to sponsor four
quarterly educational seminars.
If you are interested in being a part of the planning or execution of
AUSA sponsored or supported event, you are invited to contact Chris
Miller, VP-Events, at [email protected].
Jackie Moore, VP-Membership, is on medical leave from the Board.
However, we are still attempting to expand that position by establishing two
committees under her leadership—Director for Corporate Membership and a
Director for Individual Membership. Any AUSA member interested in either
filling one of these positions or assisting in finding someone that might be is
encouraged to contact me so I can explain the positions.

Our Chapter recently hosted the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Southern Arizona Veterans’ Memorial
Cemetery. President Tom (picture below) was the emcee. Below left, shows some of the dignitaries present including
Mr. Joe Larson (Cemetery Administrator), Sen. John McCain, Mr. Ted Vogt (Director, Arizona Department of Veterans’
Services), Ms. Saige Larry (current Miss Sierra Vista), Rep. Ron Barber, Mr. Stu Carter (Chair, Sierra Vista United Vet-
erans Council), Ms. Britann O’Brien (representing Gov. Brewer), Mayor Rick Mueller (City of Sierra Vista), SFC Lynnise
Moore (USA Ret) (recent Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame inductee). The picture of the Battle Cross balloon shown be-
low was taken at our last Veterans Day Ceremony in Veterans Memorial Park. Unfortunately the winds would not allow
for it to be fully erected on this Memorial Day. However, both the helmet and the boots were inflated, and sat side by
side.

“Voice for the Army - Support for the Soldier”
Board of Officers and Directors (Board): The Chapter leadership consists of a board of officers and directors, collec-
tively referred to as the Board.
Composition. Currently the Board consists of a President, Senior Vice President, Vice President for Member-
ship, Vice President for Events, Secretary, Treasurer, and several Directors. Our goal is to increase the number
of board members to 12. The Board has established a Chapter Advisory Committee that currently consists of the
Arizona Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army (CASA), the Mayor of Sierra Vista, and the Deputy to the
Commanding General of the US Army Intelligence Center of Excellence and Fort Huachuca (USAICOE&F.H.).
Meetings. The Chapter’s Board currently meets at 1730, the last Wednesday of the month at the Buena High
School JROTC from August through April, and at the City’s Community Center in May, June and July. These
serve as planning and coordination meetings for upcoming events and activities, as well as reviewing the status
of membership and the Chapter’s finances.
Membership: Membership functions and duties are under the management of the Vice President for Membership. This
includes maintaining a comprehensive data base, monitor renewals, solicit new members, communicate with members,
and provide recognition.
Individual. A general membership drive will be conducted throughout the year beginning in September with an
aggressive and widely publicized program of activities. These activities will include sponsorship of selected key
events of the military community. Goal is to increase net individual membership by 10% per year.
Corporate. A Corporate membership drive will be conducted beginning in January. The plan is to identify po-
tential new members, involving close coordination with the Military Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Com-
merce, followed by letters, personal visits and phone calls to prospective members. Current Corporate Members
are encouraged to bring prospective Corporate Members to all Chapter events and meetings. Goal is to increase
net corporate membership by 10% per year.
Events and Support: Event planning and execution functions in support of our programs are under the control of the
Vice President for Events. This includes coordinating with other organizations as needed. All events will include an
element of membership drive.
Educational. Goal is to establish quarterly educational seminars for the benefit of the various elements of the
local Army community. These will also serve as membership meetings. Four diverse topics will be selected.
Then the plan is to update the same program topics each year so that the community will look forward to the an-
nual updates.
Fundraising. The Chapter will continue to participate in the fundraising raffles conducted by the Huachucans.
Other community fundraising events, such as running events that require entrance or registration fees, will be
conducted.
Community. The Chapter will continue to work to provide quality services to the community.
o The Chapter, in conjunction with other organizations, will attempt to plan and execute a fundraising run-
ning event that may include a marathon, half-marathon, et cetera. It is hoped that this will become our
signature annual event.
o As a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and an active member of its Military Affairs Committee,
we will continue to be a premiere Sponsor for the November Luncheon honoring local veterans.
o The Chapter will continue to support our two local JROTC units. This support is coordinated with the
two Senior Army Instructors, which happen to be on our Board.
o As a Member Club of the Joint Service Clubs of Greater Sierra Vista (www.jscgsv.com), a coalition of
almost 60 local organizations, the Chapter will continue to both solicit and provide support to each
other.
o The Chapter will continue to support and participate in the City’s annual Veterans Day Parade and Cere-
mony. We provide cakes for the ceremonial cake cutting and participate in the bi-annual Veterans’ Ser-
vices Expo.
“Voice for the Army - Support for the Soldier”
o We will continue to participate as a member of the Greater Sierra Vista United Veterans Council.
o The Chapter will become a member of the Southern Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery Foundation.
o The Chap will continue to support other Fort Huachuca related programs and functions such as the
Audie Murphy Club inductions, annual Chaplain’s fund drive, and Soldier recognition and award events.
o The Chapter will continue providing funds to appropriate needs as listed on the attached Budget.
Administration:
Budget & Finance. Programmed expenditures will be executed as funds become available. For planning pur-
poses, the actual statements for the prior year will be used for budget purposes. Funding changes or new re-
quests for support must be approved by the Board. See attached Budget.
Newsletter. A Chapter newsletter will be published quarterly with inputs by Board members focusing on their
particular areas of responsibility to recognize the benefits of the Chapter’s programs.
Website. The Chapter website will be used to publicize Chapter activities and provide educational information
on the goals, objectives, and issues of the Chapter and AUSA.
Publicity. Press releases and Letters to the Editor will be used to cover selected Chapter events.
Approved by the Board on 25 June 2014
