OER programme SURF

• In SURF’s Strategic Plan for 2011–2014, the Dutch higher education institutions have made the theme of ‘open’ a priority for the coming years, in both education and research.

• Higher education institutions all over the world are increasingly making their educational resources openly available and are investing heavily in developing Open Educational Resources. That trend fits in with a global ‘openness movement’.

• In April 2011, SURFfoundation consequently launched the nationwide Open Educational Resources Programme.

Global trends: highlights Open Education 2011 Conference

• The user’s perspective (students and faculty / instructors).• Learning 3.0, network learning and co-creation: creating and facilitating

innovation and creative power. The OER movement needs ‘the spirit of a lab’, where things happen that you don’t expect.

• Connecting the dots (Saylor foundation, Open Course Library, OERGlue, integration OER – SLE): from ‘just free and accessible’ to ‘better’.

• Open textbooks.
