All the species of amphibians and reptiles of Vietnam including new records and recently described spe- cies are listed in the checklist. At present the fauna of amphibians of Vietnam includes 147 species which divided into 35 genera and 9 families.

Distribution. Southeastern mountain regions of Ton- kin and northern Annam (Vietnam); Hengduan Shan Mountains (Yunnan, China); northern Laos; northern Thai- land; Karin region of Myanmar; western Meghalaya (India).

Note. The type species of Leptobrachiurn is Leptobra- chiurn hasseltii [type locality: "Java," Indonesia; designa- ted lectotype by Dubois and Ohler, 19981. Leptobrachiurn hasseltii occurs only on the islands of Sumatra, Java, Bali, and Borneo (Indonesia); the Philippine form is not conspe- cific with that from Java [Dubois and Ohler, 1998, Durneri- lia, 4(1):24]. Specimens from Vietnam; China (Yunnan and Guangxi); India; Laos; Myanmar and Thailand previ- ously assigned to L. hasseltii must be refrred to L. chapaen- se. Leplobrachiurn hainanense Ye et Fei, 1993 occurs on Hainan Island only. Type locality. Western Yunnan (China) by D. R. Frost, 1985, Amphibian Species of the World: 415. (The type locality is not defined since Anderson visited Yunnan province in China as well as Burma (= Myanmar) where this species is known [Zhao and Adler, 19931.

Distribution. China Yunnan, Guangdong, Hunan, Guangxi, and Hong Kong provinces; eastern India; Bangla- desh; Myanmar; Laos; Northern Thailand; Vietnam.

Note. Fei and Ye (2000) stated that in the original de- scription of Ixalus laterails Anderson did not include obvi- ous Megophys-like characters, suggesting the description was not of a Megophys, but Philautus, of which Ixalus is a junior synonym. They propose the species name, Mego- phys lateralis, be returned to an earlier synonym, Mego- phys major Boulenger 1908. Distribution. Southwestern China and northern Viet- nam. Reported to be present in northern and eastern Laos.

Note. Ophiyophiynepachyproctus Kou, 1985 is a ju- nior homonym of Megophrys pachyproctus Huang, 198 1 [Duellman (1993) considers Ophiyophryne a subgenus of Megophiys, suggested by Dubois (1980). Further he con- siders in connection with distinct generic status the both names as acceptable]. We consider Megophiys and Oph- iyophiyne as distinct genera and accordingly 0. pachy- proctus and M. pachyproctus as valid names of two differ-
