    Born in 1923 at Kamalia , now in Pakistan .

    He was from a simple middle - class Khatri family .

    He worked at the Army ordance factory after his education .

    He is one of the richest people in India .

    Net worth 1.5 Billion .

    Occupation Founder and Chairman of the Hero Group .

    CAREER

    The brothers initially started a business by supplying components to

    manufacturers of bicycles in and around Amritsar .

    After Partition , Munjal family shifted its base from Pakistan to Ludhiana .

    At that point and still today Ludhiana was an important destination for

    manufacturing and industry hub of bicycles and textile .

    Slowly they expanded their distribution network and by early 1950s they

    were supplying components of bicycles throughout India.

    In 1954 Hero Cycles Ltd moved up the value chain by

    making a shift from supplying to manufacturing.

    They started manufacturing handlebars, front forks andchains.

    Start up Capital Government of Punjab

    Under his leadership Hero Cycles was the first company

    to export bicycles in large scale.

    In 1984, Hero MotoCorp Ltd., (Formerly Hero Honda

    Motors Limited) was formed as a joint venture between

    Honda Japan and the Hero Group promoters Dr. Brij

    Mohan Lall Munjal along with his sons .

    The new brand identity and logo, Hero MotoCorp, wasdeveloped by the London firm Wolff Olins .

    Hero MotoCorp has three manufacturing facilities basedat Dharuhera , Gurgaon , Haryana and at Haridwar .

    Awarded Businessman of the Yearin 1994 by business magazine"Business India"

    Received the National Award for outstanding contribution to the

    Development of Indian Small Scale Industryin 1995.

    In 1999 Featured in Most Admired CEOList of the magazine "BusinessBarons".

    Received The Distinguished Entrepreneurship Awardfrom The PHD

    Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 1997.

    Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Conferred Sir Jehangir Ghandy

    Medal for Industrial Peacein 2000.

    Received The Lifetime Achievement award for "Management" from All IndiaManagement Association in 2003.

    Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi conferred him with a Doctorate; degree of"Doctors of letters" Honoris Causa in October 2004.

    Awarded "Padma Bhushan"in March 2005 for his contribution to Trade andIndustry in 2005.

    He is the Past President of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Society of

    Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and was a Member of the Board ofthe Country's Central Bank (Reserve Bank of India) .
