he Europa Nostra Heritage ToursCommittee is pleased to present for2011 what we believe will be an inspir-

ing series of exclusive tours.

The year’s tours will start in the second halfof March with a ten day grand journeythrough parts of spellbinding Morocco. Inthis amazing melting pot of many culturesyou will be taken to a dazzling variety ofurban and scenic treasure spots, both publicand private. This comfortable tour willexpose a truly alluring country in a fascinat-ing way. A special feature will be that, as faras feasible, explanations will be given bothin English and French, making the tour per-fectly suitable to all our members.

In early May, a thrilling opportunity will beoffered to see Spain’s most talked-aboutcity, lively and appealing Valencia, as wellas some less common small towns, includingTeruel with its World Heritage Múdejarbuildings, and spectacularly located Cuenca,also a World Heritage site. The combinationof a great and historically important citywith more humble Spanish treasure-trovesshould make for a very special tour.

Mid September will bring a unique chance tovisit Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a veryspecial part of Germany. This northern stateis steeped in history, but, apart from thecoast, not as widely known as some othersectors of the country. Our simply beautifultour of illustrious historic towns, of distin-guished private houses, and of a varied andinviting landscape, deserves not to bemissed. The tour has been completely createdand organised ‘in house’.

The final tour of the year, in early December,will go to one of the most scenic and histor-ical of the smaller cities of Central Europe:Salzburg in Austria. This gem of a touroffers a whirlwind of fine impressions of theenchanting historic town-centre, of superbmusical events – a must in such a prominenthub of music – and of resplendent privatehouses in the beautiful surroundings of thetown. Where better to spend a few days inthe atmospheric Advent period?

Initially we intended to offer you five tours,but due to circumstances beyond our con-trol, the planned tour to Bourgogne had tobe deferred to 2012. Still, I am convincedthat the selection on offer will be as excitingas ever.

As you may know, our tours are an impor-tant source of income for Europa Nostra’sHans de Koster Fund and Heritage in Perilcampaigns. Hence, maximum patronizationby our Members is cordially invited. My col-leagues and I will be most grateful for yourparticipation in our tours, and we look for-ward to welcoming you!

Début mai vous aurez la chance de voir une des plus intéressantes etdes plus admirées villes d’Espagne, la vivante et attachante Valence,ainsi que quelques petites villes moins connues, telles que Teruel etl’architecture mudéjare d’Aragon classée au Patrimoine Mondial, etla ville historique fortifiée de Cuenca spectaculairement située (et également classée au Patrimoine Mondial). La combinaison d’unegrande ville historiquement importante et des plus humbles trésorsespagnols rendra ce voyage très particulier.

Mi-septembre, nous vous offrirons une chance unique de visiter unerégion très spéciale de l’Allemagne, le Mecklembourg - PoméranieOccidentale. Ce länder du nord est imprégné d’histoire, mais, à l’exception de la côte, pas aussi largement connu que d’autresrégions du pays. Notre magnifique circuit à travers de célèbres villeshistoriques, de remarquables maisons privées, et un paysage varié etaccueillant, mérite de ne pas être raté. Ce voyage a été complètementpensé et imaginé en interne.

mais suite à des circonstances indépendantes de notre volonté, levoyage en Bourgogne a du être postposé à 2012. Je reste néanmoinsconvaincu que la sélection offerte sera aussi passionnante que possible.

Ainsi que vous le savez probablement, nos voyages sont une importante source de revenus pour le Fonds Hans de Koster et lescampagnes de Patrimoine en péril d’Europa Nostra. his tour to one of the most strikingregions of North Africa has beendesigned to give you a lasting impres-

sion of the unique and sophisticatedMoorish civilization, as well as of what

remains of the influences Europeans left inthat spectacular area.

The imperial dynasties of Morocco embel-lished their capitals at Fes, Marrakech andRabat with magnificent Islamic architectureand arabesque decoration, much of whichsurvives. Little touched by the influence ofEuropean colonists, the medinas and souksare imbued with the atmosphere of the past.The exotic cities, the magnificent landscapeand the dry, sunny climate have seducedmany visitors from Europe and beyond andwe will be welcomed at a number ofenchanting private homes.

Our tour begins in Marrakech where we stayat the delightful hotel Les Jardins de laKoutoubia in the heart of the medina, with

patio view rooms. An introductory morningwill include the great gaunt ruins of the ElBadi Place and the ornate 16th-centurytombs, which evoke the former imperialglory of the city. We will walk through thespice market and the airy courtyards of theBahia Palace. After a buffet lunch by thepool at the legendary Hotel Mamounia, withits beautifully-maintained gardens, therewill be time to explore the fascinatingsouks. As dusk falls, the great space of theDjmaa el-Fna becomes a stage for acrobats,musicians, herbalists, scribes and snake-charmers.

The next day we will be shown the MajorelleGardens and the late Yves St Laurent’s col-lection of Maghrebi art and artefacts. Wedrive to the Ouirgane Valley to see a typical

Berber market, followed by lunch at adelightful privately-owned country villa, ina spectacular garden setting overlookingthe Atlas Mountains. Later we will bereceived for dinner at Riad Madani by ourhost, M. Thierry de Beaucé. Contemporaryart collections are displayed in this historichouse, which once belonged to the GrandVizier.

Two nights will be spent at Hotel La TourHassan in the present capital, Rabat, wherewe will be shown the Almohad walls, thenecropolis of Chellah, tranquil sanctuary ofthe Merinid dynasty, the Roman ruins ofSala Colonia and the atmospheric Kasbahdes Oudaias. In addition we will see themodern Mausoleum of Mohammed V and theexterior of the Royal Palace.

From Rabat we drive to Meknes, imperialcity of Moulay Ismail. We will be shown hisvenerated mausoleum and the impressivegranaries and stables, before continuing tothe evocative site of Volubilis, a remote out-post of the Roman Empire. Exploring thesite, we will come across remarkable mosaicfloors dating from 25 B.C. As we arrive at

dusk in the magical city of Fes, the calls ofcountless muezzins will be echoing acrossthe valley.

Founded in the 9th century, Fes is consid-ered the true cradle of Moorish culture andthe most complete medieval city in the Arabworld. Thanks partly to the creation of amodern Ville Nouvelle, old Fes has remainedmiraculously unspoilt and daily life theregoes on much as it has for centuries. Weshall be staying at the luxurious HotelPalais Jamaï, the converted former resi-dence of the 19th-century Grand Vizier ofJamai, overlooking the spell-binding medi-na. The next morning we will be led throughthe labyrinthine Fes-el Bali, including thespice market and the tanners’ quarter, withits vats of vivid dyes. Our route will includethe finest of the mederse (Koranic schools)- and a glimpse of El Karouine Mosque, withits lovely pavilions. After lunch at a riad, wewill visit the Dar Batha Museum of MoroccanArts, housed in a former palace in Fes elJdid, the 13th-century ‘New Town’.

of Chechaouen, with its steep lanes ofwhitewashed houses, continuing afterlunch to Tangier, overlooking the Straits ofGibraltar. In the evening, we have beeninvited to visit the palatial FrenchConsulate General, almost opposite ourhotel El Minzah.

After a walking tour of the Gran Socco andthe kasbah, there will be an exclusive visitto the historic American Legation. Later wewill enjoy lunch at a private home in a hid-den garden setting, where we will meetinvited guests from the vibrant Tangier com-munity. A visit to one of the beautiful pri-vate gardens on ‘The Mountain’ is planned,before a farewell dinner at the enchantingkasbah home of British art dealer GordonWatson.

The tour starts on Saturday 19 March withdrinks and dinner at our hotel in Marrakechand ends on Monday 28 March after break-fast at Rabat.

Les dynasties impériales du Maroc ont ornéleurs capitales de Fès, Marrakech et Rabatde la magnifique architecture islamique etd’arabesques existant encore aujourd’hui.Peu touchés par l’influence des colons euro-péens, les médinas et les souks restentimprégnés de l’atmosphère du passé. This tour proposes a revealing approachto this rich and diverse region ofSpain, an important sector of the

medieval Crown of Aragon. Our visits willshow fascinating Roman art, stunningMedieval legacy in its many aspects, andstrikingly Modern ‘heritage of the future’,not forgetting beautiful and hidden townsand villages and some unexpected scenery.

After your check-in at our centrally locatedhotel, Ayre Astoria Palace, a coach-tour ofValencia, one of the oldest cities of theMediterranean, will give an overview of itsimportant old and new architecture.Especially the 21st century has given the citysome of the most talked about modernarchitecture of Europe. In the evening, aftervisiting a private home with an important

private library and ceramics collection inthe historical quarter, we shall have dinnerat a restaurant in the Europa Nostra prizewinning Mercado de Colón building.

The next day a walk through the old centrewill take us to the imposing 13th–15th centurygothic Cathedral with its unusual octagonaltower ‘El Miguelete’, the Baroque 17th centuryBasilica of the Lady of the Forsaken, theextraordinary 15th century Silk Exchange (aWorld Heritage site), and several othermajor sights of the historic town. Lunch will be taken at the Ateneo Mercantil, a 19th

century private club. At the NationalMuseum of Pottery and Sumptuary ArtsGonzález Martí, located in the 17th centuryformer palace of the Marquis Dos Aguas, weshall be welcomed by its Director. The final

visit will be paid to La Gallera, a delightfulart space located in a 1870 building, thatonce held cock fights. The remainder of theafternoon and evening will be free for someshopping or to explore this lively city onyour own.

The next morning will be spent visiting twoprominent art collections of Spain. The first,of old masters, will be at the Museum of FineArts, housed at the 18th century formerMonastery of San Pio V. The second will be atthe IVAM, Valencia’s modern art museum,where the Museum’s Director will receive usfor a short visit. After a stop at the Fine ArtsSchool, located in the Convent of El Carmen,a paella lunch – a must when in Valencia –will be served at the more than 110 years oldLa Pepica Restaurant on the seaside.

The subsequent visit of Architect Calatrava’smagnificent Ciudad de las Artes y de lasCiencias, a top achievement in modernarchitecture, is another must, and it willcover the remainder of the afternoon. In theevening we have been invited for cocktailsat a private home, known for its collection ofdecorative arts and old masters.

After checkout of the hotel in Valencia, wetravel by coach to the Maestrazgo region,famous for its well preserved villages andMudejar buildings. First stop will be at Morade Rubielos – its protected historic centrereceived a Europa Nostra Award 27 yearsago. We shall stroll through the village withstops at the attractive Collegiate Church andthe grand Castle with national monumentstatus. After a short drive we shall reachRubielos de Mora, another gem of a village,where we stop for lunch. Then on to pictur-esque and intriguing Albarracín, where weshall enjoy a guided visit by our member,heritage architect Pedro Ponce de León, ofthe Europa Nostra Award winning Torre deDoña Blanca. Dinner will be at our charmingHotel Albarracín.

Next morning we visit inter alia the Cathedral,the exceptional Mudejar towers and thesweeping medieval walls. At the Bishop’sPalace we shall be received by the Director ofthe Santa Maria de Albarracín Foundation,which supports the maintenance of theimportant cultural heritage of this amazingtown, and have a tapas lunch. Subsequently,we will visit one of the towns in this oft-overlooked region of Spain: likeable andculturally outstanding Teruel, an importantMoorish city within the World Heritage‘Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon’ site. A touron foot will take us to the 12th centuryCathedral with its fabulous late 13th centuryartesonado ceiling, the town’s spectacularMudejar church-towers, the notable Mudejar

church of San Pedro (burial place of the‘Teruel Lovers’), and the Bishop’s Palace. Wewill return to Albarracín for dinner at theattractive Casa Santiago and overnight stay.

A scenic drive takes us to Cuenca, where wefirst check into the Parador, located in a 16th

century convent. Subsequently we visit theEpiscopal Palace Museum with its Greco’sand Byzantine Diptych and the 12

th century

Cathedral with its wonderful modernstained glass windows. Lunch will be at therenowned Las Casas Colgadas. In the after-noon we pay a private visit to the muchlauded Juan March Foundation, located inthree ‘hanging houses’ with excellentmedieval frescoes, as well as the GustavoTorner Foundation in the desecrated Churchof the San Pablo Monastery. After some freetime at Cuenca, the farewell dinner will be atthe Parador.

Next morning we return to Valencia Airportfor arrival at 11.00 hrs.

The tour starts on Tuesday 3 May at 16.00hrs at the hotel in Valencia, and ends onMonday 9 May at 11.00 hrs at Valencia Airport.

Après votre enregistrement à notre hôtel ducentre, le Ayre Astoria Palace, nous feronsun tour de Valence, une des villes les plusvieilles de la Méditerranée. La visitefinale sera La Gallera, un espace d’art situédans un bâtiment de 1870 où se tenaient desbatailles de coq. Le reste de l’après-midi etde la soirée sera libre, vous pourrez fairequelques achats ou explorer la ville parvous-mêmes.

Le matin suivant nous irons voir deux col-lections de tableaux en vue en Espagne. Lapremière, des anciens maîtres, sera auMusée des Beaux-Arts, hébergé dans l’ancienMonastère du 18ème siècle de San Pio V. Ladeuxième sera à l’IVAM, le musée d’artmoderne de Valence, où le Directeur duMusée nous recevra pour une courte visite.

Après un arrêt à l’École de Beaux arts, situéedans le Couvent d’El Carmen, une paella audéjeuner – incontournable à Valence - seraservie au Restaurant centenaire, La Pepica,sur le bord de la mer. La visite ultérieure dela magnifique Cité des Arts et des Sciencesde l’Architecte Calatrava, un accomplissementdans l’architecture moderne, est un autreincontournable, et elle couvrira le reste del’après-midi. En soirée nous avons été invités pour un cocktail dans une maisonprivée, connu pour sa collection d’arts déco-ratifs et de tableaux de anciens maîtres.

Après avoir quitté l’hôtel de Valence, nousvoyagerons par car vers la région Maestrazgo,célèbre pour ses villages bien préservés etses Mudejar. Nous ferons un premier arrêt àMora de Rubielos - son centre historiqueprotégé a reçu un prix Europa Nostra il y a 27ans. Nous flânerons à travers le village avecdes arrêts à la Collégiale et au grand Châteauavec son monument national. Après uncourt trajet nous atteindrons Rubielos deMora, un autre village étonnant, où nousnous arrêtons pour le déjeuner. Puis nousirons voir la pittoresque Albarracín, où nouspourrons profiter d’une visite guidée par

notre membre, l’architecte du patrimoinePedro Ponce de León, de la Torre de DoñaBlanca, gagnante d’un prix Europa Nostra.Le dîner se déroulera dans notre Hôtel d’Albarracín.

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (WesternPomerania), a quite sparsely popu-lated and rural state in north-east

Germany, is known for its elegant seasideresorts, winsome rolling landscapes, strikingHanseatic cities and impressive brick churchesand castles. Surprisingly to some people,this region with more than 2000 monu-ments is one of Germany’s richest in cultur-al heritage. After World War II, many fami-lies lost their properties and fled, to set up anew life beyond the iron curtain. This tourwill tell some of the personal stories andshow the results of determined people andheritage organisations, who, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, took up the challenge ofrestoring ancestral properties and monu-ments, rundown or near-destroyed duringthe years of the East German Republic.

On the day of arrival, after a two-hour trans-fer by bus from Berlin, you will discover thecharacteristic atmosphere of UlrichshusenCastle, one of the most important Renaissancemansions in the region, and nestled in one

of Mecklenburg’s most scenic countrysideareas. Baron and Baroness von Maltzahn,who in 1993 bought back their ancestralcastle – a then virtually burnt-to-the-groundruin – will be our hosts for the next threedays. During our welcome dinner, BaronHelmuth von Maltzahn will give us a person-al account of their vision and hard work torebuild the castle, which was transformedinto a charming hotel and an attractive venuefor Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s largest andmost important music festival.

The next day we shall visit the 16th centuryRenaissance church in Bristow, the oldestProtestant church in Mecklenburg. Thanksto private donors and the Deutsche StiftungDenkmalschutz (Member Organisation ofEuropa Nostra), the church could be

restored to its original glory. We will thenvisit the attractive town of Güstrow, whichwas founded in the 13th century. In theafternoon Count and Countess von Bassewitzwill receive us at their estate in Dalwitz. In1945 the family von Bassewitz was dispos-sessed of their property and sought refugein Western Germany. In 1992 the Counts vonBassewitz returned to Dalwitz and decidedto buy the estate, despite its poor condition.A visit of this important estate, showing youthe results of an exemplary restoration, willbe followed by dinner at the historic house.

On our last day in this area Baron vonMaltzahn will show us further cultural high-lights of the region, including some castlesand churches. The journey will end at the13th-15th century church in historical Basedowwith a concert on its beautifully restored,outstanding Baroque organ. Dinner atUlrichshusen’s main hall with invited guestsfrom the region, will give us a personalopportunity to learn more about the life andpeople of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

A drive through the beautiful landscape willlead us to the spa town of Bad Doberan,where we shall see the famous Cathedraland Doberan Abbey, two prominent exam-ples of Brick Gothic of the 14th century.Lunch will be served at the splendid GrandHotel located in the elegant seaside resortof Heiligendamm. On the way to our nextdestination, Schwerin, we will stop for abrief visit of the medieval town of Wismar, amajor trading centre of the HanseaticLeague in the 14th and 15th centuries. Wismarhas received UNESCO World Heritage statusfor its restoration and development of thecharacteristic building types and techniquesof the typical Brick Gothic style in the Baltic

region, exemplified by numerous importantchurches, castles and other buildings. Theday will end at the elegant, lake-sided HotelNiederländischer Hof in Schwerin.

The following day will be dedicated to seeSchwerin, the capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, well known for its twelve sce-nic lakes within the city boundaries. Herewe shall visit the celebrated Castle and itsbeautiful garden, the 13th century Cathedraland the important Theatre. The visit ofSchwerin’s vital State Museum with itsunparalleled collections of 16th-18th centurypaintings and Fürstenberg porcelain will beanother highlight of the day.

On our way back to Berlin, we shall stop atLudwigslust to see the 18th century BaroquePalace, also known as the ‘Little Versailles inMecklenburg’. The Palace is located in a vastpark, laid out in English style with canals,fountains and artificial cascades.

The tour starts on Tuesday 13 September at14.00 hrs at Berlin Airport Tegel, and endsat the same location on Sunday 18 Septemberat 15.00 hrs.

Du Mecklembourg-Poméranie antérieure(en Poméranie occidentale), une pro-vince rurale relativement peu peuplée

du nord-est de l’Allemagne, on connaît surtoutles élégantes stations balnéaires, les paysagesenchanteurs, les belles villes hanséatiques,et les imposants châteaux et églises debrique. Ce que l’on sait moins, par contre,c’est que cette région, avec plus de deuxmille monuments, recèle l’un des patrimoinesculturels les plus riches d’Allemagne. À lafin de la seconde guerre mondiale, de nom-breuses familles ont perdu leurs propriétés,et fui, dans l’espoir de se fonder une nouvellevie de l’autre côté du rideau de fer. Ce voyageracontera certaines des histoires personnelles,et révèlera les accomplissements d’individuspassionnés et d’organisations de préserva-tion du patrimoine qui, dès la chute du mur

de Berlin, relevèrent le défi de restaurer despropriétés et monuments ancestraux, négligésou même détériorés sous la République Est-allemande.

Astately city on a small scale, Salzburghas a lovely skyline of domes and spires,dominated by the mighty Hohen-

salzburg Fortress. The artistic patronage ofthe Prince-Archbishops and the musical tra-dition of a city forever associated with Mozart,have become defining features for any visitor.Salzburg is at its most atmospheric duringAdvent and the scenic surroundings andspecial private visits enhance the enjoymentof this short winter stay.

Our chosen hotel, the elegant Alstadt RadissonBlu, is in the heart of the delightful OldTown, a short walk from the main street,Getreidegasse, with its medieval mansionsand picturesque wrought-iron signs. One ofthese houses is Mozart’s birthplace, whichwe will be the first stop on our introductory

walk. The spacious square in front of theItalianate Cathedral is the focus forSalzburg’s Christmas Market, a traditionalscene with festive stalls selling seasonalcrafts – and the alluring scent of mulledwine and gingerbread. By way of contrast, wewill also be shown the austere RomanesqueFranciskanerkirche. A pedestrian bridge takesus across the Salzach river for a stroll in theformal gardens of the Mirabell Palace, whichwere designed by Fischer von Erlach. Later,welcome drinks and dinner will be served atthe hotel.

The following morning, we will be shown theart collections of the Residenz, historichome of the Prince-Archbishops. Nearby isthe ancient abbey of St Peter, with its vener-able churchyard alongside the rock wall of

the Mönchsberg. We will be shown the roco-co interior of the 12th-century Benedictinechurch. Next we visit a private home on theKapuzinerberg, with magnificent views overthe city. After lunch, we have special per-mission to visit the elegant apartments oflakeside Schloss Leopoldskron. This was theformer home of the impresario Max Reinhardt,one of the founders of the Salzburg Festival.We continue to Schloss Hellbrunn, a delight-ful summer residence inspired by the villasof the Veneto, with 18th-century decoration,set in baroque gardens. A gigantic AdventCalendar is displayed on the castle façadeand there will be time to browse the AdventMarket in the courtyard. In the evening weattend a concert at the Grosses Festspiel-haus in Salzburg. The Festival Hall wasdesigned by Clemens Holzmeister, incorpo-

On the Saturday, we will drive south to Anifto visit the home of Archduke Karl von Habs-burg, followed by lunch at a private countryhouse. We return to Salzburg for a visit andprivate drinks reception hosted by CountChristopher Küenberg at the LangenhofPalace in the Old Town. This will be followedby a Mozart concert, with dinner, at theStiftskeller St Peter, Austria’s oldest inn.

Exploring the scenic Salzkammergut onSunday, we drive to Bad Ischl, favourite spaof the Emperor Franz-Josef, where we will bereceived at the Kaiservilla. We continuealong the Wolfgangsee to the charmingtown of St Wolfgang, famous for the Gothicaltarpiece by Michael Pacher in the church.Our final dinner will be at the famousrestaurant of Salzburg’s traditional HotelGoldener Hirsch.

La spacieuse placedevant la Cathédrale à l’italienne est le cen-tre du Marché de Noël de Salzbourg, scènetraditionnelle où l’on trouve des stands fes-tifs vendant des produits et de l’artisanatsaisonniers, aux senteurs alléchantes de vinchaud et de pain d’épice. Contrastant avectout cela, nous visiterons également l’austè-re église romane Franciskanerkirche. Unpont piétonnier nous permettra ensuite detraverser la rivière Salzach pour une prome-nade dans les jardins formels du PalaisMirabell, conçus par Fischer von Erlach, avantde rentrer à l’hôtel pour le dîner d’accueil.

PRICES Although it is unlikely, we reserve the right to reviseour prices due to seriously increased costs from our suppliers,at any time before you book. If this happens, you will beadvised before you commit yourself.As soon as you have paid your deposit, and your place on thetour has been confirmed by us, we guarantee that the priceof the tour will not be subject to any surcharges, exceptthose resulting from substantial increases in fuel prices,Dutch or foreign government action, such as increases intaxes, and/or adverse exchange rate variations. You will be entitled to cancel your place on the tour with a fullrefund of all monies paid in the event of a price surcharge of

more than 10%. Should you decide to cancel under thesecircumstances, you must do so in writing within 10 days ofthe issue date of the surcharge invoice. We guarantee not toimpose any surcharge within 6 weeks of the tour departure,provided full payment has been made by you.

CHANGES BY EUROPA NOSTRA Occasionally we may beobliged to make alterations to tour programmes, andreserve the right to do so. If any significant variation ismade to the advertised arrangements after your place hasbeen confirmed, you will be informed and you will be entitledto cancel and receive a full and prompt refund of all moniespaid.

TOUR CANCELLATION EUROPA NOSTRA will endeavour tooperate the tour as advertised. As a rule the minimum numberof participants must be 20 (maximum 25): should therequired minimum number not be reached, the tour may becancelled, in which case everyone booked will be advisednot later than eight weeks before the departure date. In theevent of circumstances beyond EUROPA NOSTRA’s controlresulting in the tour being cancelled, the maximum possiblenotice will be given. If the tour has to be cancelled byEUROPA NOSTRA, for any reason, all amounts paid will berefunded. As soon as the minimum number of participantshas been reached, a confirmation that the tour is definite,will be mailed to you. We recommend not to book flights ormake other, cost involving, travel arrangements beforereceipt of the final confirmation of the tour.

TOUR INSURANCE Participants must hold a travel andhealth insurance that also includes proper cover for cancel-lation.

TRANSPORTATION on coaches and/or other means of trans-ports is subject to the conditions of carriage of the carrier,some of which may limit or exclude liability.

ACCURACY OF BROCHURE Great care has been taken toensure that descriptions, information and prices are accu-rate at the time of publication. Nevertheless, there may betimes when a publicised facility or visit is withdrawn as aresult of factors beyond our control. We will always endeav-our to find a satisfactory replacement. The tour descriptionis based on the planned day-to-day programme. However, itwill be appreciated that arrangements for private visits can-not always be confirmed until a few months before the tour,and consequently the planned programme may be altered.

ACCOMMODATION We reserve bedrooms with private facilities(bath and/or shower and wc) at first-class hotels or higher.

FITNESS Please note that the very nature of the sightseeingprogrammes, and the inaccessibility of certain town centresto coaches, means that a fair amount of walking may beunavoidable on all tours. We therefore must stress that thetours are not suitable for people who have difficulty in walk-ing or keeping pace with a group.

FINAL NOTE The day-to-day organisation of the tour isundertaken by our tour organisers and/or leaders, whoendeavour to ensure the smooth running of all arrangements.EUROPA NOSTRA does everything reasonably possible toensure the well-being of those who entrust themselves to itscare. Should any aspect be regarded as less than satisfactory,participants are asked to bring this promptly, and certainlywithin 28 days, to the attention of the office at The Hague,or of the tour staff.

Making Your Booking

Please complete the booking form and forward it to TheUltimate Travel Company Ltd, together with your non-refund-able deposit of Euros 300 per person made payable to TheUltimate Travel Company Limited. If you are booking lessthan 8 weeks prior to departure, the full cost of the tour ispayable. On receipt of your booking form and deposit we willconfirm your booking in writing, then approximately 8 weeksbefore departure we shall send you further information relevantto the tour that you have booked, together with a finalinvoice, which will also show any surcharges due (if applicable).You must pay the invoice within 10 days of the invoice dateotherwise we reserve the right to treat the booking as can-celled and apply the cancellation conditions as set out below.Your travel documents are dispatched about 7/10 days beforethe tour departs.

Suppliers

The Ultimate Travel Company Limited. acts only as agents forthe owners of accommodation and services provided, and forroad transport proprietors, and all bookings must be acceptedsubject to the ticket or transport conditions and regulationsof the transport proprietors, and also subject to the laws ofthe country in which such carriage or other facility is required.

Passport, Visas & Health

All clients are personally responsible for ensuring that theyhave a valid passport, relevant visa/s and conform to the healthregulations required by the country/s that will be visited duringthe tour.

Cancellation

You or any member of your party may cancel your tour at anytime providing that the cancellation is made by the personwho signed the booking form and is communicated in writ-ing. As this incurs administration costs we will retain thedeposit and in addition will apply cancellation charges asshown below:Period before departure within which Sum of cancellationcharge shown as a written cancellation is received: percentageof the holiday price:� More than 60 days Deposit� More than 22 days 50%� More than 15 days 75%� 14 days or less 100%

If you are obliged to cancel, you may, with reasonable notice,transfer your booking to a third party who satisfies the con-ditions required taking that tour, but we will retain yourdeposit to cover the administration cost for the transfer.

Alterations by The Ultimate Travel Company Limited

We will do our utmost to provide the tour arrangements thathave been confirmed, but we must retain the right to modify orcancel any tour, accommodation or arrangement, if unforeseencircumstances amounting to ‘force majeure’ arise. In suchcircumstance, we will inform you as soon as possible, and,should the change be such that it alters the nature of thetour, we shall give you a full refund of all money paid. Inrecognition we will absorb all financial loss consequent uponcancellation due to ‘force majeure’. We shall not cancel anytour for reason of political tension or natural disaster unlessspecifically recommended to do so by the British ForeignOffice.

Tour Cancellation

The prices of tours are based on a varying minimum numberof passengers travelling (normally 14 passengers). If this min-imum number is not reached, at least 8 weeks prior to thescheduled departure date we will cancel the tour and offer arefund in full.

Our Liabilities

We do not exclude or limit any liability to our clients whichmay arise from proven negligence by any person employeddirectly by us or by our suppliers and subcontractors, servantsor agents of the same whilst acting in the course or theiremployment in respect of death, bodily injury or illness. Suchliabilities shall be subject to English law and all proceedingsshall be within the exclusive domain of the English courts. Weshall endeavour to afford general assistance to our clients inthe event of illness, injury or death during the period of thetour. We accept responsibility for ensuring that all parts of thetour are supplied as described and that all services shall reacha reasonable standard. Naturally we cannot assume responsi-bility for loss or expense due to war, riots, strikes, terroristactivities or natural disaster.

Travel Insurance

It is imperative that you take out travel insurance. Particularcare should be taken to ensure that you have adequate cover,in particular for cancellation and emergency repatriation inthe event of medical problems.

Complaints & Arbitration

We will always endeavour to resolve any complaints on thespot, however if the matter cannot be resolved you must writeto Martin Thompson, Executive Director, within 14 days of theend of the tour. We will endeavour to resolve the problem aspromptly as possible. In the unlikely event that the problemis not amicably resolved the case may be referred to arbitra-tion, if the customer so wishes, under a special Schemearranged by the Association of British Travel Agents, andadministered independently by the Chartered Institute ofArbitrators. The scheme provides for a simple and inexpensivemethod of arbitration on documents alone with restricted lia-bility on the customer in respect of costs. The Scheme doesnot apply to claims for an amount greater than £5,000 per

person. There is also a limit of £25,000 per booking form.Neither does it apply to claims which are solely in respect ofphysical injury or illness or their consequences.The Scheme can however deal with compensation claimswhich include an element of minor injury or illness subject toa limit of £1,000 on the amount the arbitrator can award perperson in respect of this element. The application for arbitrationand Statement of Claim must be received by the CharteredInstitute of Arbitrators within nine months of the date ofreturn from the holiday. Outside this time limit arbitrationunder the Scheme may still be available if the companyagrees, but the ABTA Code does not require such agreement.Full details will be provided on request or can be obtainedfrom the ABTA website (www.abta.com).

Credit Card Payments

We do have the facility to accept payment by most credit cardcompanies, deposit payments can be made by credit or debitcard free of charge. Balance payments can also be made bydebit card free of charge, but will attract a 5% levy if made bycredit card.

Baggage & Personal Effects

These remain your responsibility and risk at all times.

Tour Leaders

The tour leader, in conjunction with the appropriate medicaladvice if applicable, has the right to disqualify any client atany time during the course of the tour, if considered necessaryfor the medical well being or safety of the individual or in thetour leader’s opinion, the client’s actions materially areaffecting the enjoyment of the tour for the remainder of thegroup. Any decision with regard to any reimbursement for anypart of the tour not completed will be decided between theManaging Director of The Ultimate Travel Company Ltd andthe tour leader.

Data Protection Statement

Please be assured that we have measures in place to protect thepersonal booking information held by us. This informationwill be passed on to the principal and to the relevant suppliersof your travel arrangements. The information may also be provided to public authorities such as customs or immigrationif required by them, or as required by law. Certain informationmay also be passed on to security or credit checking companies.If you travel outside the European Economic Area, controls ondata protection may not be as strong as the legal require-ments in this country. We will only pass your information onto persons responsible for your travel arrangements. Thisapplies to any sensitive information that you give to us suchas details of any disabilities, or dietary/religious require-ments. (If we cannot pass this information to the relevantsuppliers, whether in the EEA or not, we will be unable to provide your booking.
