Learning to be Free

I was never that brave to step out onto the waves

I would rather have stayed right where I was, right where I was

You tell me don't be afraid so I step out onto the waves

But I was never that brave so you held out your arms, held out your arms

I never knew

This is how it could be

The wind and the waves

All around me

Leaving what I thought was safe

Feeling my heart race

Finding more of your grace

Learning to be free

Lord you're lifting me up

Lifting me up

Lifting me up to you

I never knew

This is how it could be

The wind and the waves

All around me Leaving what I thought was safe

Feeling my heart race

Finding more of your grace

Learning to be free.

Changing Lives.

Every year area churches and businesses come together to provide a bag of unprepared food to feed a family of five. Our goal is to reach 500 families at Thanksgiving and to offer them not only physical nourishment for their bodies but also spiritual nourishment for their souls. Working together we can make a difference in our community.

We are collecting:

28 oz cans of green beans,40 oz cans of yams, and financial contributions to purchase hams, rice, green beans, yams, and Bibles.

Drop off donations at Heritage UMC. Thank you for your continued support!

What Where When

Thankfulness. In a world full of discontent and drowning in the idea "if I just had ______ , I'd be happy/fulfilled/successful," it's such an elusive state of mind, and it doesn't take much more than looking at the half isle of Thanksgiving at Wal-Mart wedged between fear driven Halloween aisles and happiness driven Christmas aisles to realize it. To most it is a blip on their radar; a segmented and compartmentalized part of their year that happens for a couple of days immediately followed by weeks of want and shopping.

While the underlying causes for this are many and subtle in the secular world, many Christians, a group called to by God to be continually thankful, seem to be routinely discontent and unhappy as well for some mysterious reason. How are they missing out on the peace and joy He promised? Maybe it's because thankfulness is not an emotion, but an outpouring of intentionally, despite the situation of feeling, choosing to remember God's previous provision grounded in humility and contentment combined with the faith He will continue to do so in the future?

Here are a few good quotes and Bible verses to meditate on during this season of thanks to possibly illuminate the tie between how thankful and/or content we are and our closeness with God.

"We would worry less if we praised more. Thanksgiving is the enemy of discontent and dissatisfaction." - Harry Ironside

"We need to discover all over again that worship is natural to the Christian, as it was to the godly Israelites who wrote the psalms, and that the habit of celebrating the greatness and graciousness of God yields an endless flow of thankfulness, joy, and zeal."- J.I. Packer

"I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak his praises. I will boast only in the Lord; let all who are helpless take heart. Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; let us exalt his name together." - Psalm 34:1-3 (NLT)

"How may we know that we are rightly thankful? When we are careful to register God's mercy... Physicians say the memory is the first thing that decays; it is true in spirituals."- Thomas Watson

"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV)

"Let us thank God heartily as often as we pray that we have His Spirit in us to teach us to pray. Thanksgiving will draw our hearts out to God and keep us engaged with Him; it will take our attention from ourselves and give the Spirit room in our hearts." - Andrew Murra

"The unthankful heart discovers no mercies; but let the thankful heart sweep through the day and, as the magnet finds the iron, so it will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings!" - Henry Ward Beecher

Heritage United Methodist Church

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to

prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Sunday School, or Sunday morning Bible study, provides Bible lessons beginning with our little ones in the nursery through

our senior adults. Each class is designed to help us grow in our understanding of the Bible and how to apply it to our

everyday lives. Classes meet each Sunday from 9:30 am to 10:30 am and it is open to everyone.

WINGS of FAITH (All ages) Class for Bible Study, with a special focus on the daily stress we face in everyday life.

Emphasis is to bring us together as a church family so that we not only react to problems but anticipate one another's needs.

Anticipate bringing in guest speakers/programs which will assist in enhancing our quality of life. All conversation shared in this

group will be considered confidential! No age restriction. Join us upstairs, last room on the right, in the Education Building.

Leader, Tammy Albritton.

BROTHER MATT'S ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS: (All adults) Relevant and timely Bible lessons that

speak to the concerns and issues facing Christians in these days. Open discussion format where participation is encouraged. Join us

upstairs in the Education Building. Leader, Brother Matt Albritton.

LAMPLIGHTERS: (All ages) Lamplighters will be studying "The Sovereignty of God" during this quarter (Sep, Oct, Nov). We will be taking a look at the visionary images as presented by the authors of Isaiah, Hebrews and Revelation. Isaiah images focus on the reign of God over the whole world as a peaceful kingdom and a new and everlasting covenant. In Hebrews, God comes to lead us in the form of Jesus, and we will learn about the reign of the resurrected Christ - who is our great high priest and the perfecter of our faith. In Revelation, we will learn about the one who makes all things new, the River of life and the second coming of Christ. Please come and join us. Leader is Roy Eason.

WOMEN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS: (All women) We are still studying the early church in chronological order. At this current time we are in Acts Chapter 20. We are also adding a couple of lessons on how to study God's Word. So beginning June 26, 2016 we will be talking about effective ways to study and comprehend what we read. And then we will all be encouraged to study God's Word more often because we have developed a clear plan of action for ourselves. Please feel free to join us at any time. It is our goal that no matter when you jump in to our class you feel informed and welcomed. We love new members. Leader: Anita Jones

COLLEGE AND CAREER BIBLE STUDY: We are studying the book of John and learning more about the life of

Jesus and his disciples, and how we can apply what Jesus taught the disciples to our own lives. We have fun fellowshipping and

making new friends. All college and career ages are welcome! Join us upstairs in the Education Building. Leader, Terri Hurst.

YOUNG MARRIED COUPLES: (Open to all couples) We are currently studying Perfect Ending by Robert Jeffress.

We are looking into the book of Revelation and asking the question of why your eternal future matters today. Leaders, Stephen &

Angie Parker.

ABLAZE STUDENT MINISTRY SUNDAY SCHOOL: (7th thru 12th graders) We focus on the many

awesome attributes of our holy, loving, Trinitarian God revealed in scripture, and discuss, through scouring the Bible and practical

application, how insanely life changing letting Him be your heart's main desire each and every day can be! We also discuss liturgi-

cal (the church calendar), global, local, and personal events as they occur and are laid on our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Talking about

their significance for us as followers of God, and the church as a whole, in light of the Bible is truly an enlightening and humbling

experience! We would love for you to come join us in the Chapel. Leader, Jamie Farquhar.

CHILDREN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL: (Kindergarten thru 6th graders) We are using the DEEP BLUE Sunday School

Series where kids dive deep into the Bible. Through Bible stories, games, puzzles, and Bible Study, kids will learn how to live as

disciples of Jesus. Join us downstairs in the Education Building. Leader, Shannon Nelson.

CHILDREN'S CHURCH (11:15 am): (4 years thru 3rd graders) Children join us each Sunday in Children's Church

for an interesting Bible Study and some fun and exciting follow-on activities. Children will go to Children's Church after Praise and

Worship.

NURSERY AND PRESCHOOL: (Crib Babies, Toddlers up to 4 years old) A loving, safe, and age-appropriate

environment welcomes your young children into our church family. Your child will receive lots of TLC by our CPR certified staff

and volunteers. This is a wonderful opportunity for your little ones to socialize and bond with other children while hearing biblical

stories and seeing Bible characters. Nursery is located on the first floor, Education Building. Leader, Nikki Hagler.
