The Yorkshire clinic is the fi rst hospital in the region to offer a new way of having a knee r e p l a c e m e n t . The Signature total knee replacement uses tried and tested p r o s t h e s i s with excellent long term results, but allows the operating surgeon to place the implants into the precise position needed for the individual knee.

The system relies on obtaining an MRI scan of the knee which is used to recreate a three dimensional model of the knee. This model is then used to develop positioning guides that are individual for the patient. This innovative step means that during the operation the surgeon is able to prepare the knee and place the implant in a way that is unique to that patient’s knee.

The process also eliminates several invasive steps needed during a standard knee

replacement. This will not only make surgery more effi cient, but will aid in quicker and better recovery. Because the implants are placed in a very accurate position it is also believed that the process will allow the replaced knee to last longer.

For many the process of separating, resolving fi nancial issues and agreeing what is in the best interests

of any children will be the most traumatic episode in their lives. Obtaining the right advice is therefore essential.

Getting divorced can be an intimidating procedure for the uninitiated. In law there is probably no other area of practice that generates as much emotion and paperwork or requires the fi lling in of more forms. For some it can be easy to drown in the detail and lose sight of the bigger picture. As a result the process can be confusing, time consuming and often costly, both fi nancially and emotionally. Consequently, choosing the right lawyer may be the most important decision you make.

Not every lawyer is the same, nor right for every person. You need to make sure that your aims and objectives for the divorce process match your lawyers’ philosophy.

A good lawyer will:• Help you understand and focus on

the issues of your divorce without losing sight of the emotional nature of the proceedings.

• Give clear advice on matters that concern you and use language that you can understand.

• Provide prompt and courteous

responses to your questions and queries.

• Help you prepare for any court • proceedings.• Provide clear information about costs

and any methods that may help to reduce your legal fees.

Sometimes the best way to fi nd a good lawyer is to ask for a recommendation from someone you know and trust. Rather than relying on professional recommendations that may be revenue driven, it’s better to rely on personal ones from family and friends. Ask detailed, specifi c questions such as:

• What is your primary area of practice?

• How long have you been a lawyer?• What percentage of your case load is

dedicated to divorce?• Have you handled cases with similar

issues to mine?• Do you have a heavy case load and

do you have time for my case?

It often helps to appoint a lawyer who is local as they will then be familiar with the value of property/businesses in your area and have a network of local experts to draw upon. Proximity will also aide the convening of meetings and the returning of forms etc. After you have chosen your lawyer it is important that you establish a good working

relationship. You need to discuss your specifi c objectives and the issues that are important to you. Do not hold back relevant information even if it seems embarrassing. Your solicitor cannot protect your interests with only half the facts. Agree preferred avenues of communication e.g. meetings, telephone, fax and/or email.

By choosing the correct representative you might just cut down the worry associated with what could otherwise be a diffi cult process.

Worger Howcroft Solicitors in Bingley offer a sympathetic approach to divorce and separation problems whether arising between married couples, civil partners or non married parties. Advice is available on separation, divorce and other related matters such as the division of business assets and pensions and/or issues relating to children.

All cases are handled by specialist divorce practitioners with at least 25 years experience in their chosen fi eld.

For further details of how we may be able to help you please contact Andrew Williamson on Tel: 01274 511246, or email: [email protected]

However, there’s an added incentive to join now as you get the rest of this year absolutely FREE!An area within reception now showcases a designated display of how the new decorations, carpets, fl ooring and furniture will look, and very impressive it is too. Members are taking lots of interest and all seem excited that investment continues in their club, they know they made the right choice becoming a member here!General Manager, Helen Walker and her team are really excited about the changes as this will complete previous investment in gym equipment, the introduction of a lady only and rehabilitation gym and an on-site physiotherapist.

Helen is also passionate about supporting the clubs chosen local charity and before the start of this latest refurbishment, Helen hosted a Christmas Fair at the club, for members and their friends and families and also local residents, to raise much needed funds for Bradford & Airedale Cancer support. The event was a real success and they were thrilled to see many local residents coming along to support them. There were Christmas stalls selling the perfect gifts for the festive season, from designer handbags and jewellery to kitchen gadgets, fl oral displays to makeup and gift sets. There was even a bespoke wrapping service and the opportunity to buy personalised Christmas cards. Now surely this has to be reason enough!

With the current trend for many pubs to reinvent themselves as gastro-pubs, The Old Tramshed

in Saltaire opts for a more traditional style of eating. Re-branding itself as a Freehouse and Carvery with the launch of a full carvery menu and a restyled logo to warm things up, the Old Tramshed has declared itself a gastro-free zone.

The friendly welcome is still the same but the world heritage pub, which was originally an old tram shed, now boasts a newly refurbished layout to complement its newly acquired carvery status.

Offering a freshly prepared selection of the

best the region can offer, the Old Tramshed believes in keeping its produce fresh and local wherever possible, supporting small and independent producers and suppliers.

General Manager, Dave Davies, commented: “After taking time to review the current market trends, we decided that the way forward for us was to provide our customers with a fresh and simple alternative. The traditional British carvery offers classic favourites with unpretentious flavours and provides us with the perfect opportunity to make good use of fresh seasonal favourites.”

Dave is also aware that not everyone who visits the pub will want to eat and added:

“We also understand that, as a pub, we need to make sure our customers can still call in for a drink without feeling obliged to pick up a menu - and to that end, our enviable beer selection will remain just as enviable!”

The Old Tramshed will continue to feature a wide range of live music and entertainment and is the only pub in Saltaire showing Sky Sports in 3D (they also offer the ‘image enhancing’ 3D eyewear for free!).

The carvery will be available seven days a week from 12noon to 10pm and to prove that a change can be better than the rest.

The Old Tramshed CHANGES TRACK!

Rebecca Mallinson (nee Garnett) has lived in Bingley all of her life, attending Myrtle Park

Primary School, Nab Wood Middle School and later Bingley Grammar.

Leaving school at 16, Rebecca secured a position as offi ce junior in local estate agents and by 19 was running her own branch. At 23 Rebecca had a career change and moved into selling newly developed homes, achieving the title and position of area sales manager at 26 for Tay Homes, covering Wales, the whole of Yorkshire and Tyne Side. She eventually moved back into estate agency managing Halifax Estate Agency in Bingley in 2001, then took a career break from 2001 to 2007 to have her two children, Daisy and Hattie, before going back temporarily to new home sales for another local development. However, Hattie had ongoing health issues which made it impossible for Rebecca to continue her career.

Rebecca told us: “I decided I needed a position to fi t in with my life style, working school hours, evenings and weekends. Despite the recession I decided to set up my own business in February this year. I have always had a love of exclusive jewellery and bags and had a vision for an exclusive party plan with a twist! The aim was to make branded collections affordable so that everyone can be glamorous!

“Inspired by the Fergie song, ‘The Glamorous’, the lyrics ‘the fl ouncy fl ouncy’ set the

precedence of the business and Flouncy Flouncy was born!”

Obtaining collections by Nour London, Fiorelli , Red or Dead, Zandra Rhodes, Gabys, Bomb Cosmetics and Zsiska to name but a few, the collections are competitively priced and make glamour more affordable and achievable through party plan in the comfort of your home or during lunch breaks in corporate companies, shopping and charity events, with the odd wedding fair when there is time!

The company is growing far quicker than Rebecca ever thought possible with her diary bursting at the seams as word has spread about the wonderful designer bargains she has in stock, and party bookings are fi lling fast for January and February already.  Last words to Rebecca: “I have excellent gift ideas for Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day and also offer a Wish List Service where ladies can discreetly tell their loved ones what items from my collections they would like to receive as a gift.” Flouncy Flouncy - bringing the bling to Bingley! Red or Dead Bags - a funky range of on trend evening bags, practical work bags, and a fabulous range of everyday bags.

Zandra Rhodes Bags - a stunning collection of handbags as individual as Zandra herself, stylish for everyday and the ultimate in evening bags.

Nour London Jewellery - a fi ne collection of beautiful pieces, lots of crystals, pearls and ribbons to ensure truly unique pieces and sheer indulgence.

Zsiska - handmade jewellery incorporating Swarovski crystals, silver leaf and resin and a fabulous collection of statement rings, a little bit of affordable luxury.

Fiorelli - known mainly for their handbags but the jewellery is equally as stunning, mainly everyday wear in a range of styles to suit everyone.

Absolute - this collection is so this season! Faceted crystal necklaces, bracelets and ear rings with encrusted Swarovski crystals in silver, midnight blue and black. A range of crystal encrusted bangles completes this range which is made in Italy.

Santa Claus is coming to town!  And this year he’s sending personalised letters to children ahead of his annual visit. The NSPCC’s Letter from Santa fundraising initiative gives family and friends the chance to send someone special a magical letter from Santa for a suggested donation of £5.

The letter is personalised with the child’s name and age and confi rms that Santa and his sleigh will be stopping off in their home town to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.  The letter is written in a hand script font and is beautifully illustrated on quality colourful paper.  The envelope shows that it’s been safely delivered through ‘Express Rudolph Mail’.  Anyone who orders a Letter from Santa is also in with a chance of winning the trip of a lifetime to Lapland*.

Paula Guanaria, NSPCC Head of local fundraising in the North, said:

“Letter from Santa adds to the joy of Christmas by bringing some extra festive magic to a special child in your life.  The initiative also helps us to raise vital funds to support less-fortunate children who perhaps don’t have such loving adults thinking of them at this time of year.“

Also on offer is a Baby’s First Christmas letter from Santa, which is the perfect keepsake for newborns celebrating their fi rst festive season.

To order a Letter from Santa for a child you know, either in the UK or abroad, visit or call 0845 839 9304.  Alternatively look out for a Letter from Santa order postcard in your local Debenhams, SPAR, Thorntons or Bhs store.

Everyone ordering a Letter from Santa this year will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win a free family trip to Lapland* thanks to the generosity of Lastminute.com.

Ladies in the PINK!

Registered Charity No 519429

Two hundred ladies attended a Ladies Pink Lunch on Saturday 30th October in the Princess Ballroom at the Midland Hotel, Bradford, held in aid of local charity Cancer Support Bradford & Airedale. The event raised a fantastic £4,400 for the charity which relies very much on donations and fundraising events to generate income.

Community Fundraiser Linda Enderby said: “It was an absolutely fabulous and fun afternoon. We had shopping, games and entertainment from a Robbie Williams tribute act which went down very well with the ladies.”

Here & Now Magazine is produced and distributed by MAD Publications

Ltd; based in Greengates, Bradford, and we are proud to support Bradford & Airedale Cancer Support in any way possible. We have attended The Pink Lunch for the past two years and always have a fantastic afternoon. If you haven’t been to The Pink Lunch yet, make sure you book your places and put the date in your diary now for next year’s event!

All proceeds will go towards providing free support services for local people affected by cancer. For more information about the charity or to make a donation please call 01274 77 66 88 or email: [email protected]

Ok, so it’s bad out there. Times are tough. There’s no doubting that. However, don’t you feel like the media are talking us all into a downward spiral? All we hear are bad news stories. There are some good business news stories out there but the simple fact is that good news does not sell newspapers.Business that can ride out the storm will be well positioned when the market recovers. Here are a few ideas to help you to ride the road to recovery and beat the recession. If your competitors cut back their spending whilst you keep on marketing, who will ride out the recession and reap the long term rewards? It’s important not to think of marketing as a cost. Look at it as an investment. If you creatively invest in your brand

or the way you present your business, the result will have a positive effect on your success. Don’t just take my word for it... according to the Design Council Business Surveys, businesses who invest in marketing have much better brand awareness. Now’s a good time to make sure every marketing dollar, pound or euro is working as hard as it can be. Your local printing.com team can carry out a marketing audit and help identify gaps or things you could be doing to get more for your money. Give them a call, and see what they can do for you.

Are you in a good position to recover? Ask yourself these questions:

When did you last review your marketing material or your website?

Does your logo look like it’s past it’s sell by date?

Is your brand or message that your business portrays strong, professional

and consistent?

Do your customers realise all the services and products you offer?

Are you communicating frequently with your customers?

Treat your grandchildren to some fun, sea and sand on a fantastic Caribbean break. Research conducted in May 2009 by Age Concern has shown that parents are struggling to balance full-time work with raising children, and as such an increasing number of grandparents are providing the main family holiday for their grandchildren.

The results are supported by three quarters of UK adults who agree that with so many working mothers, families need grandparents to help more and more, as found by a year long survey conducted by the Basic Skills Agency in 2008.

Windjammer has fi ve a la carte restaurants, an inclusive water sports centre, a range of swimming pools, a serenity spa, gym, tennis courts, scheduled trips and tours direct from the resort and regular evening entertainment.

Local brothers Nick and Jean Paul, run Armour Glaze, a double glazing repair specialist company. Their family business leads the way in replacing sealed glass double

glazing units in either UPVC, wood or alluminium frames and they can supply the very latest in energy-saving window technology. If you want to improve your carbon footprint, have you considered Low-e glass? Low-e glass varies from normal clear glass in that one side of the glass has a special metal coating, technically known as a low emissivity coating. This increases the energy effi ciency of windows so that in the winter your house stays warmer, and in the summer it stays cooler.Nick said: “Many double glazing companies on seeing misted glass units will tell you that it cannot be fi xed, and will then try to sell you a new conservatory or new windows. At Armour Glaze we specialise in replacing only the misted units at a fraction of the cost.”A customer of Armour Glaze, Ann from Bingley, tells us about her experience.

“I called two reputable companies to look at the misted windows in my conservatory, both said the problem could not be fi xed and both recommended a new conservatory. After hearing about Armour Glaze, I asked them to take a look. Thank goodness I did, my conservatory now looks as good as new and the cost was over £5,000 cheaper than the nearest quote! I was very happy with their work and thought they were wonderful,” she said“There are many other reasons why you might want to call Armour Glaze, apart from having steamed up windows,” said Nick. “You might be bored with your leaded windows and want more light, or you might want to freshen up your front door. Just like the windows, we can change the door panel at a fraction of the cost of a new door.”Sue from Gilstead agreed. She commented “I was so happy with the way Armour Glaze transformed my conservatory and bedroom windows that I recommended them to a friend who was also very happy with their work.”

Fed Up Of Black Unsightly Mould - At last a real

alternative to ceramic tiling!!

“Our panels provide a decorative and functional fi nish to walls and ceilings in any room. They are however ideally suited to bathrooms and kitchens with many advantages over ceramic tiles.

They are much quicker to fi t, there’s no need for grout, and they offer improved insulation and will not support bacteria or mould growth!” Explains Damian Campbell, owner of Yorkshire Cladding Centre Ltd in Bradford.

Damian, originally from Bingley, moved away in 2002 to Newcastle after being made redundant from the Bradford & Bingley. He worked for his cousin selling internal upvc cladding in Newcastle until May this year.

After marrying his wife, Amanda in 2007, they decided to move back to Bingley in May this year as they missed family and friends, and this was the perfect opportunity to set up Yorkshire Cladding

Centre in his local area.

A superb, cost effective and more decorative alternative to tiles, decorative cladding was extremely popular in Newcastle and seeing that not many people sell this product in the Leeds/Bradford area, Damian saw a gap in the market. “The cladding is easy to install, even the most basic DIY enthusiasts can fi t it. I carry a large range of colours and styles along with assorted fi nishing trims and adhesives. My showrooms have been specifi cally designed for people to look at what’s available and how fantastic a fi nished room looks.

As well as bathrooms and kitchens our panels are also suitable for use in shower rooms or shower cubicles and once completed provides any room with the ‘wow’ factor!”

Produced from extruded PVC with a paint and lacquer fi nish to the front face, the panels simply fi x together in a similar way to tongue and groove timber cladding. Panels can be fi xed directly to existing sound surfaces, including tiles, using a variety of building adhesives, or can be fi xed mechanically (nailed, screwed or stapled) to timber battens on uneven surfaces.

A visit to Damian at Yorkshire Cladding Centre is a must to see just how fabulous your rooms can

look, you will also be pleased at the price!

More than just a concept car which has become a reality, the RCZ marks a new chapter in the history of Peugeot “lifestyle

vehicles”. Its expressive and innovative styling, its luxurious interior, its efficient and environmentally-friendly engines and the driving enjoyment they create will project the Marque into a future which promises to be more exciting than ever.

Drawing inspiration from the passion and know-how of its designers and engineers, Peugeot instills its brand values in every vehicle it manufactures. Sometimes however, freed from constraints and fired by creativity, Peugeot takes a bold new step and introduces “lifestyle” vehicles that are truly exceptional. The latter always arouses emotion, inspiring admiration among motoring enthusiasts and immense pride on the part of their makers.

Certain concept cars exhibited at international motor shows also follow this example. Sometimes their power of attraction is so great that the desire to see them take to the road becomes unstoppable.

As a result in September 2007, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Peugeot unveiled an exercise in style that left no observer unmoved: the 308 RCZ concept car. The idea of marketing the car on a commercial basis quickly became a reality.

However, the transformation from concept car to production vehicle required real determination, boldness and inventiveness… qualities for which the manufacturer is renowned.

Stylists and engineers worked together to ensure that all of the vehicle’s specification lived up to the promise of its exterior styling.

Indeed while the main aim was to conserve the stylistic blueprint of the concept, despite the considerable constraints imposed by its production and commercialization, the challenge went much further. Highly ambitious targets were fixed in terms of driveability and production quality, to give the car its own strong and unmistakable identity.

This compact 2+2 coupé was, therefore, designed to become an exclusive vehicle, “something special”, a melting pot of emotions, aimed at modern and particularly demanding customers with expert opinions on what constitutes driving pleasure.

Its name, RCZ, symbolises this distinctive and singular positioning in relation to the Peugeot range, since it is the first passenger vehicle

RCZ It Chooses YouIt Owns You

not to use the numbering system with a central “zero” or “double zero”.

The RCZ therefore illustrates the sum of Peugeot values, which are constantly realigned with the times. Designed to enhance the sheer enjoyment of driving, the RCZ is also dynamic (the top of the range model features an all new 1.6 litre THP 147 kW/200 bhp engine), and responsible, offering an innovative blend of performance and environmental-friendliness. With its reduced weight, fine-tuned aerodynamics and modern engine technology, the entry level model has CO2 emissions of only 139 g/km.

An extension of this thinking is the RCZ equipped with HYbrid4 technology which will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This RCZ is based on the same power train as the 3008 HYbrid4 which will be available in Spring 2011: a 2.0 litre HDi FAP 120 kW (163bhp) in front and a 27 kW (37bhp) electric motor at the rear. This concept has emissions of only 95 g/km of CO2 whilst benefiting from a potential of 147kW (200bhp) and four wheel drive.

This reflects Peugeot’s wish to offer this type of technology on different vehicles in its range; vehicles which can be very different (crossover, coupé…) which may be based on different platforms but with a common theme: to offer renewed driving enjoyment.

Another challenge the project faced was to successfully develop this new vehicle within a particularly short time span. With this in mind, it was decided the vehicle would be assembled at a production centre that specialises in exclusive vehicles built in small production runs, inside the Magna Steyr plant in Graz, Austria.

As a result, just two years after being exhibited as a concept car, the RCZ will be unveiled for the first time in public, in its definitive form, at the 63rd Frankfurt Motor Show.
