Here I am, the train takes me through misty homeland plains.
It’s dawn. With each new day
Some old ones wake up.
Symbol of Croatian defence in the last war
A shepard waves his stick saying hello to me
And I wave him back.
Capital city of Slavonia
My heart grew into one with these fields and reeds.
I’m thrilled watching the waters which flooded distances
It’s autumn already.
Every little path here calls me. “Get off the train!”
storks rettle.
The poem was written by Dobriša Cesarić (1902. – 1970.), Croatian poet born in Slavonia.
His poetry was translated into many languages.
