One: We enter into this sacred space for worship. All: God's Spirit fills our Sanctuary. One: The candles are lit, the light streams in, and the music plays. All: God's glory shines in our Church. One: At worship we are changed, cleansed, transformed. All: God's power thunders in our hearts. One: At worship we are invited to carry God's word into the world. Let us pray...

    *UNISON PRAYER OF INVOCATION

Holy, holy, holy God, your glory fills our church, and we are rendered speechless by the sight and sound of it. Your glory fills the earth and nations bow down before your power. ATTENDING TO GOD'S WORD

    ANTIPHONAL READING FROM THE PSALTER

    Psalm 29 JILL A. TRUAX

    Cantor

Ascribe to the LORD, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.

Ascribe to the LORD the glory of God's name; worship the LORD in holy splendor.

The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD, over mighty waters.

The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of Majesty.

The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon...

The voice of the LORD flashes forth the flames of fire.

The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.

The voice of the LORD causes the oaks to whirl, and strips the forest bare; and in his temple all say, "Glory!"

...May the LORD give strength to God's people! May the LORD bless God's people with peace!

  • READING FROM THE SCRIPTURES Rev. David W. Johnson

One: In the stories of our faith we encounter God's grandeur. All: God's glory can be both overwhelming and healing.

Isaiah 6:1-8 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the LORD sitting on a throne, high and lofty; and the hem of his robe filled the temple. Seraphs were in attendance above him; each had six wings: with two they covered their faces, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. And one called to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory." The pivots on the thresholds shook at the voices of those who called, and the house filled with smoke.

And I said: "Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!" Then one of the seraphs flew to me, holding a live coal that had been taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. The seraph touched my mouth with it and said: "Now that this has touched your lips, your guilt has departed and your sin is blotted out." Then I heard the voice of the LORD saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I; send me!"

    RESPONSE

One: When we encounter God's goodness we are made ready to respond to God's call. All: Here I am, send me!

    MISSION-SERVING THE COMMUNITY

CHRISTMAS WISH TREE: For years, Community Church has played Santa for children all over Indian River County, by taking tags from the Wish Tree and purchasing a gift. It is true that COVID has made life more complicated, but not even COVID can steal the Christmas Wish Tree from the 350+ children who will be recipients of our gift giving this year! Our tree will be a virtual one but the Agencies we partner with are real. We will be gifting children from Daisie Bridgewater, Indian River County Healthy Start, Childcare Resources, Feed the Lambs, ESOL/Migrant Students, Guardians for New Futures, and the Homeless Middle School program.

For information about how you can be a Santa, even if you are still up north (at the North Pole?), please go to ccovbwishtree.org to take a name (or two) from our virtual tree. There will be instructions there for how to proceed. Gifts are due back to the Church by December 6th. Thank you for helping bring joy to a child in this challenging year.
