I, the Lord of sea and sky,I have heard my people cry.All who dwell in dark and sin,

My hand will save.I, who made the stars of night,

I will make their darkness bright. Who will bear my light to them?

Whom shall I send?


Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?I have heard You calling in the

night. I will go Lord, if You lead me.I will hold Your people in my

heart.


I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne My people’s painI have wept for love of them,

They turn away.I will break their hearts of stone,Give them hearts for love alone.

I will speak My Word to them.Whom shall I send?

Miracle of the Five Loaves and Two Fish (Luke 9:10-17)

10. And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they

had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a

deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.

11. But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He

received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and

healed those who had need of healing.

12. When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to

Him, "Send the multitude away, that they may

go into the surrounding towns and country,

and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a

deserted place here."


13. But He said to them, "You give them something to eat.“ And they said, "We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we go and buy food for all these people."

14. For there were about five thousand men. Then He said to His disciples, "Make them sit down in groups of fifty."

15. And they did so, and made them all sit down.

16. Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude.

17. So they all ate and were filled, and twelve

baskets of the leftover fragments were

taken up by them.


• Important miracle in the Bible– Miracle of God’s blessing– Appears in all 4 Gospels – Bible reading every time there are 5 Sundays

• Three key points– People in need– Inadequate disciples– Adequate Savior


• People in need– “But when the multitudes knew it, they

followed Him…”

– Disciples wanted to send them away• “But He said to them, You give them

something to eat.”• When God wants to meet the

needs of people, He uses people


• Inadequate disciples– We think we need to have the resources

• God doesn’t want us to serve out of our abundance, but out of our inadequacy

– God likes to do big things with little resources and little people• E.g. Elijah the Tishbite, Jeremiah, Joseph, Moses,…• Christ will give His adequacy to cover

my inadequacy to meet the needs of the people

• Adequate Savior– When I give Him what I do have: He blesses, breaks,

and satisfies

– Never find blessing without brokenness• Seeds die• Abraham was too old to have children• Sinful woman broke the alabaster flask (Luke 7:38)

– God satisfies• “So they all ate and were filled, and

twelve baskets of the leftover fragmentswere taken up by them.”

– The Bread of Life– An abundance of Christ and His blessing

What? Why? and How?

Quiet Time is daily time that I set aside to be alone with God.

CONSISTENCY is key: 15 min each day for 7 days is better than 2 hours once a week.

Quiet Time is NOT a replacement for Agpeya or Daily Bible Reading!

What am I doing? I am praying and meditating on His word.

Why do I need to do Quiet Time?

• Already meditating on God’s word, GREAT!– Recommit to this goal

• His adequacy for my life1. Places pressures of life in proper perspective

– Luke 10:38-42• “And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus'

feet, and heard his word…but one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”

Time: 15 min (Morning is recommended; Christ and David were the examples.)

1. Before I start, even open the Biblea. “Let Your word dwell in me richly.” Col 3:16b. “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart

be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.” Psalm 18:14

c. “Speak, Lord, for your servant hears.” I Samuel 3:10d. “Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.” Psalm 50:7e. “Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your

law.” Psalm 119:18f. Lord, help me repentg. Lord, what do you want me to do?....etc.

2. Read the passagea. one part should stick out

• Once you start this new spiritual exercise of meditating on God’s word– Expect an attack from the devil– Pray for God’s grace to overcome the devil– Find someone to be accountable to

• Not a priest• A friend that you can trust who will

ask you about your spiritual life, QT, etc.• Analogy: If you have a friend that goes

with you to the gym, you are more likely to stick to your exercise regimen.

“Therefore humble yourselves under the might hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for HE cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7
