Damascus Knives & BladesDamascus Knives & BladesIn original black powder guns Damascus was used in the form oftwist to make barrels. It has been used to make blades for centuries. 900 years ago, Malayans were using pattern weldedsteel, which is what Damascus is, and blades have been founddating back to Roman times. The metal has 4 special qualities - flexibility, immense strength,cutting quality and beauty. Damascus blades are manufactured from a mixture of high andlow carbon steel.

By binding together a mixture of the two steels and forgewelding them into a billet, the billet can be forged in a numberof ways after folding and hammering to produce the desiredpattern. The end product has more than 500 layers of steelforge welded in its construction. Our knives are forged intotheir final shape and the steel packing can be seen in theDamascus pattern. Made by highly skilled craftsmen, theblades are not cheap, but at Henry Krank (the only stockistsof Damascus blades in the U.K.) They are now available onthe market at sensible prices.
