• Disruptive behavior is any action, in or out of class, that disrupts the regular operation of the class or school.

• Disruptive behavior in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, etc. will be addressed by teachers and administrators.

• Disruptive behavior includes, but is not limited to: excessive or loud talking, yelling, horseplay, running, preventing others from working, etc.

Consequences will range from a conference with administration to SAFE or suspension, depending on the situation.

• All students should proceed directly to the cafeteria at the beginning of their lunch period.

• Students in the halls will be escorted to the lunch room and considered tardy

• Students may eat in the connectors, cafeteria, and courtyard• Food/drink is not allowed outside except for in the courtyard• Students are expected to deposit their trash and trays in the

appropriate locations• Re-entry into the building during lunch is allowed only with a

written pass by a teacher or administrator. • Students are not allowed in the gym lobby except to use the lunch

line or access the restrooms

Hall PassesStudents leaving the classroom will be issued a hall pass on the designated clipboard.• Only one student out of the class at a time• One way pass must be issued to a student not returning to class• If a student requests to see a principal, they may sign up between classes• In an emergency situation, students should be issued a one-way pass

10:10 Rule• No hall passes given during the first 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes

of the class period.• If called to the office, during the first or last 10 minutes of class, student

will be issued a one way pass.

• Pants:• Shorts, dresses, skirts must be no more than 6 inches above the student’s

knee• All pants must fit at or above the hip for both males and females• Leggings/tights may not be worn unless worn with a top that is no more than

6 inches above the knee• Pants that are revealing, see-through, or otherwise inappropriate are

prohibited. • Sagging is prohibited

• Tops:• Shirts, sweatshirts, and all tops that meet the following criteria may be

worn: cover the back, cleavage, midsection, and top of the shoulders. Straps must be at least 2 inches wide.

• Tops must be composed of a material that is not see-through.

• The following items MAY NOT be worn at HCHS:• Hats, hoods, or head coverings, for both males and females, (except for

religious reasons) between 8:25 and 3:15• Bandanas at any time• Gang related clothing, accessories, or symbols as identified by local law

enforcement• Sunglasses, combs, or curlers• Sleepwear, blankets, pillows, slippers• Visible undergarments• Clothing that is vulgar, denigrates any race or religion, or has references

to drugs, alcohol, or violence.And

Any other item HCHS administration determines is offensive or disrupts the educational process.

First hour teachers will initiate a daily dress code check. All students in violation will be given an opportunity to correct. If the correction cannot be done immediately the student will be

given a one-way pass to report to the front office. The pass should note the dress code issue.

Correction options for students include:

1. Borrow clothes from a friend.

2. Call parent to bring a change of clothes.

 If the violation cannot immediately be corrected, the student will remain in SAFE until the violation is corrected. Refusal or inability to correct the dress

code violation will result in SAFE for the remainder of the day.

If a teacher has a question about a dress code issue, they should send the student to an administrator with a one-way pass that notes the dress code issue.

During Instructional Time• Personal devices are to be used for instructional purposes only. • Teachers will determine when students can appropriately use their

devices in their class. • The following consequences will be enforced for a student using

technology when it has not been approved by the teacher. ◦ 1st offense – confiscate the phone/device and return to the parent◦ 2nd offense – confiscate the phone/device and return to the parent after 5

days.◦ 3rd offense – confiscate the phone/device and return to parent after 5

days and possible additional consequences per Student Code of Conduct.

Failure to turn the device over when requested shall be considered “defiance” and shall result in a minimum of a two day suspension

per Student Code of Conduct page 32.

During Non- Instructional Time• Personal electronic devices MAY be used:• before school and after school.• during class with teacher approval.• in the cafeteria during lunch

• Personal electronic devices MAY NOT be used:• to take pictures and/or movies without teacher approval. • to create audio recordings without teacher approval.• in the hallways between classes

• Students with devices out in the hallway will be asked to put the device away- failure to comply with an adults request is defiance and will be addressed accordingly by administration.

• Head phones may not be used and should be out of sight during the hours of 8:25-3:15 in halls and classrooms (unless with permission)

• The school shall not be responsible for any device that is damaged, lost, or stolen.

Profanity• Profanity is unacceptable and teachers/staff will

correct students who use profanity.

• Confrontational or repetitive profanity = student will be referred to the administrative team with consequence of 1-2 days SAFE.

Tardies• A“Tardy team” of teachers will be present in each hallway after class change. •Students in hallway after the bell will have their name recorded on a tardy slip and will be escorted to class. Teachers will record the tardy in IC.

Off-Limit AreasIndividual students are not allowed in the following areas during the school day without written permission from an administrator, his/her designee, or Law Enforcement:•Parking lots, including the faculty parking lot•The wooded areas•Football stadium and Baseball field•Entrance to the Band room•Loading dock in the back of the building•Any other area not directly supervised by an adult

Closed CampusStudents are not permitted to go to the parking lot or leave campus during the

school day. Closed campus violations will result in SAFE or suspension.

• All students should exit the building by 4 pm each afternoon unless being directly supervised by an adult.

• Any student in the building after 4 pm and not supervised will be asked to leave immediately.

• Student participating in after-school activities that end after 4pm should leave the building at the conclusion of the activity.

• A teacher/coach/sponsor should supervise students during the entire after school activity and reiterate the expectations for leaving at the conclusion of the activity.

Skipping Class1st skip = Saturday School or SAFE/parent contact2nd skip = Saturday School or 1 day of SAFE3rd skip = 1 day of SAFE4th + skip = 2 days SAFE

15 minutes late is considered a skip and being outside of class without a pass is skipping.

FightingSuspension: (short and long term suspension)• Students who aggressively put their hands on

another student or strike another student with any object may be suspended up to 10 school days.

• When a student accumulates 20 days suspension he/she will be recommended for alternate placement or expulsion.

Tobacco UseThe use of any tobacco product is not permitted on campus.

1st offense = 1day SAFE or Saturday School*2nd offense = 1 day suspension*3 + offenses = 2 days suspension*

*Proof of attendance at a tobacco education/cessation class is required. Student Code of Conduct pg. 32

Drugs and/or AlcoholStudents using or in possession of drugs or alcohol

will receive a 10 DAY SUSPENSION and/or RECOMMENDATION FOR ALTERNATE

PLACEMENT OR EXPULSION.

5 days will be probated with proof of counseling.

Drugs and alcohol are prohibited on FCPS property.FCPS property includes – any school sponsored

activity or event.

Gang ActivityGang colors, gang symbols, tattoos, bandanas,

markings, drawings, handshakes, or any gang related items are not permitted on campus and must be

removed or covered. Significant examples of gang activity: Law Enforcement

notified and…1st offense = Short term suspension (1-5 days)2nd offense = Long term suspension (6-10 days) 3rd offense = 10 day suspension with

recommendation for expulsion and alternative placement.

HarassmentTexting hurtful comments, teasing, making fun of, laughing at, hurtful Facebook comments, writing,

pointing, name calling or any behavior toward a peer that is offensive to that peer is considered harassment.
