Helping Kids from Donbass, Ukraine,

"Kraplynka" Report on Initial Stage

“Kraplynka" has started classes for children at the camp for internally displaced families in Mezhihiria at the end of December 2014

Currently, we hold classes weekly; the children are looking forward to each new class

Short intro:

• Two groups (one for kids ages from 3 to 6 and another one for kids ages6 to 14) were formed

• Twenty sessions have taken place, ten for each age group

• Each session is visited by 3 to 11 children

First Results:

• Some parents became interested in work of "Kraplynka“

• Several children with pedagogical problems are identified

• The psychologist starts to work with children in March

First Results:

• Using the same room for both age groups or having a lesson in a hallway may be a challenge

• Thanks to the volunteers helping Mezhihiria, there are now tables and chairs for kids

Challenges:

- active role-playing games;- musical physical exercises;- drawing and clip art;- painting on Christmas gingerbread;- games with the elements of tale-therapy;

Activities with our children include:

- introduction of the animal world of Ukraine and natural phenomena;- creation of compositions with dried flowers;- traditional Ukrainian handmade - dolls “motanky”;- choral singing.

• Continue classes at Mezhihiria• Involve psychologies to help kids with special needs• Involve parents in classes more• Recreational camp in Karpaty for 30 children• Start classes for kids from Donbass at new locations

(Brovary – 700 registered refugee children, Mykolaiiv –estimated 1 thousand children, other

locations in Kyiv)
