WAYS TO Keep Faith AliveTake a walk through your neighborhood. Pray for families that live around you.

An Evening for WomenExperience a Splash of Joy with the Dr. of Joy-ology and his partner in life and ministry.

Tuesday, August 20, 2019 6:00 PM: Gathering time

program begins, plan to be finished before dark

Keynote speakers: David and Shirley Duncan

David and Shirley are no strangers to suffering and pain but have found a deep and abiding joy in the Lord. Their testimony is one of God’s sustaining strength and incredible faithfulness down through the years. They love to tell the stories of God’s miracles in His wonderful provision for every need in their life. You’ll be amazed at what God can and will do! Like

the old Gospel song says, ‘What He’s done for others, He’ll do for YOU’! One of their latest adventures with God is The Hotdog Club, feeding the children in their neighborhood community both spiritually and physically

Come be blessed and be joyful wi! us!Registration cards will be in the bulletin soon, or you may register online by using the QR code below or through our website at foresthillsmacon.com/adults under Methodist Women.

A nursery will be provided. We will need to know the number of children and their ages no later than August 18. There is no charge for the event. Those who would like to bring a gift for the Hot Dog Club ministry may bring individually wrapped snacks, school supplies, or gift cards to Zaxby’s.

A light sandwich and salad supper will be provided by members of the Esther, Martha, and Ruth circles of United Methodist Women.

Join us on Sunday, July 14 for our monthly One Step service. Our service will focus on the spiritual gifts and we will end our service with a time to gather together and pray for healing. Over the next few months, One Step will be collecting toiletry items for Desmond’s new church ministry to homeless people in Montezuma. As you are shopping, consider picking up wash cloths, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, deodorant, soap, or any other item which God lays on your heart that we can use to create “care bags.” We look forward to seeing you at our Ridge Campus at 6:00 PM as we continue to work together to bridge the culture gap in Macon and the surrounding areas through Christian worship and fellowship.

MILKSHAKES WITH THE MINISTERAre you relatively new to Forest Hills, feel a pull to “plug in more,” but just don’t know what to get involved in next? If you would like more information about the activities and ministries at our church, the heart of our pastor, and how you can take your “next step” here, join Baxter and Carolyn on Wednesday, July 31 from 7:00 – 8:00 P.M. in the Ministry Center for “milkshakes with the minister.” If you would like to join them, please let Baxter know with a quick email to [email protected].

PRAYER CONCERNS

United Methodist Women members and friends! Join us on Saturday, August 3 for the short trip to Centerville UMC to participate in the South Georgia UMW Social Action Workshop. It will be a great day of learning, fellowship and service. We will meet in the large parking lot at Forest Hills at 9:00 am to carpool to the workshop and return to the church at approximately 3:00 pm.

There will be two speakers and a hands-on workshop. Cameron Bishop, Macon Regional Director of the Methodist Children’s home will speak on The School to Prison Pipeline and Elijah Miranda, Director of Vashti Center in Thomasville will speak on The Effects of Poverty on Children. Each participant is asked to bring a new or gently used stuffed animal. These will be sent to the children at the Methodist Children’s Home and Vashti with the two speakers.

During the workshop time, we will assemble supplies for local school nurses. Each person will assemble one bag. She will take that bag with her to give to a nurse at the school of her choice.

A $20 registration fee covers a Honey Baked Ham boxed lunch, supplies for the workshop, and expenses for the event. Please contact Charlene McAleer, [email protected], 478-747-1381 to request a program schedule and registration form. Forms will need to be filled out, payment included, and given or mailed to her by July 18. 111 Deer Ridge Trail, 31210.

MISSIONS OFFERING

For the month of July our Missions offering will focus on Centenary Community Ministries, Inc. They are a 501 (c) 3 that works in partnership with Centenary Church to find solutions to specific needs that arise within our community. Among other things, CCMI’s work in the community has enabled families facing eviction to remain in their homes and to prevent utilities from being disconnected; it has given men in active addiction an opportunity to find recovery, and has offered children falling behind much needed tutoring services. One of their main focuses - CCMI runs a transitional house for men near or getting out of homelessness and working on self-sufficiency with a 9-12 month structured residential recovery program. CCMI believes that no individual is beyond God’s grasp and that transformation is always possible. CCMI walks alongside individuals from all walks of life.

Part of CCMI’s commitment to the community involves feeding the homeless, working poor, and others a hot

breakfast on the weekend, when other options aren’t open. Folks from Forest Hills help them with their Sunday breakfasts, so let the church or CCMI know if you want to help. Third, CCMI also works with the Beall’s Hill community on their Shalom Zone and shares a community garden with them that is worked by members of the church and members of the community. Fresh fruits and vegetables are made more readily available. Their 4th focus is Financial Assistance for people in crisis but they also work to help them address the underlying issues. They also founded the Recycle Macon Bike Program, where donated bicycles are repaired and given to people in need of transportation. You could join their monthly co-op weekend workshop to help fix bikes. One of their newest programs is After School Tutoring at Alexander II to help students catch up to their peers. There are many opportunities for volunteering and helping financially at Centenary Community Ministries.

For more information about the work of CCMI, contact them at [email protected] or check out their website at centenarycommunityministries.org. It’s a fascinating organization. You can give through your Sunday School offering or drop a marked donation into the offering plate.

An up-to-date church financial summary will be included in each person’s 2nd quarter contribution statement. These will be emailed (for those with valid email addresses) or mailed out the second week of July. If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact Tammy at the church office via phone or email.

MEET LEIGH HINTONOUR NEW SANCTUARY RESPITE MINISTRIES DIRECTOR

There are not enough words to tell you how excited I am to introduce you to Leigh Hinton who will be leading in our Sanctuary Respite ministries. God sent us an amazing person called to serving alongside families living with Alzheimers and dementia. Her experience, passion, education and joyful spirit is already bringing this ministry to life. Take a moment to meet Leigh and let her know how you can support Sanctuary Respite Ministries.

Leigh is a graduate of Columbus State University with a BA in Communication. She started her career as the Ticket Director for the Columbus Cottonmouths Hockey Club for three seasons.

Next, she moved to the non-profit sector and has been there ever since. She’s held positions at The Children’s Miracle Network, The American Cancer Society, and Taylor County Health and Rehabilitation.

Leigh has been the Activity Director at TCH&R for the past five years. This particular nursing facility has 76 residents and a specialized care unit for

residents with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Leigh was responsible for resident activities, socialization and special events for the facility.

Leigh lives in Reynolds, GA with her three year old daughter, Vivian, who is the light of her life. In her free time, Leigh tries to keep up with Vivian and runs her own photography business, L Photography.

CHECK OUT THESE FUN FACTS ABOUT LEIGH:Favorite food: A good cheeseburger, pasta, sushi, pizza, dark chocolate

Favorite book: Around the Year with Emmet Fox

Who inspires you: My daughter, Vivian

What makes you laugh: Oh, my gosh, when people crack themselves up! It’s the best thing ever to watch someone get themselves tickled.

What do you do for fun? I am a very social/people person. I love to love and for other people to be happy. That takes a lot out of you, so when I do have total free time, I like to be alone to nap and work on my photography; and to be quiet.

Favorite Bible Passage: Matthew 18:3

Macon Outreach is collecting FRUIT CUPS OR CANNED FRUIT for those in need. If you are able to donate, please place your items in the

Missions Cabinet at the canopy entrance.

Some of us in our church are diligently getting ready for filling shoeboxes this fall. One saint (yes, saint—she belongs to Jesus) in our church was given some cotton yarn, so she is

using her talents to make lots of washcloths to put in shoeboxes. We have already filled several boxes at home and I’m encouraging all shoebox-fillers to start looking for the bargains our Lord wants to provide

through you to the children who need a touch of His love as a wink from Heaven. Summer is a great time to pick up ball caps, sunglasses, inflatable balls, t-shirts and sandals for your shoeboxes, and the back-to-school sales on pencils, crayons, colored pencils, sharpeners, notebooks, and loose-leaf paper will start later this month. Remember that in some countries, a child is not allowed to attend school if they cannot bring their own pencils, so please step up your literacy efforts by packing lots of school supplies in your boxes.
