English Hello everyone!!
This week we are looking at some of our writing basics to make sure we have
practiced them.
Monday
Today we are thinking about capital letters. When should we use them?
Tuesday
Today we are thinking about our sentences.
Wednesday
Today you are going to making your own sentences using some words we give you.
You need to pick a word from the who, what doing, where and when and make a
sentence. For example;
Thursday
Use these:
Friday
Using what you have practiced this week, can you write your own sentences about
this picture? Don’t forget your capital letters and full stops!
Grammar The suffix of the week is ‘ful’.
Can you use ‘ful’ to change different words?
Try: wonder hope thank
What does adding ‘ful’ do to these words?
How many different words can you write?
Write the words and write these in a sentence.
Spelling Read these common exception words.
are
says
poor
find
any
so
of
only
old
1) Write these words using different coloured pens or pencils. Choose how
you write these. You can write these tall, short, in bubble writing, in
rainbow writing or any other way you can think of.
2) Ask your adult to read these sentences and you need to write them.
Remember to spell your words correctly.
Tick all the words you have spelt correctly. If you find writing tricky ask
your adult to write the sentence and then you can write the common
exception word.
A) The poor dog is hungry.
B) Can you find the pencil?
C) There is only an old apple.
D) You are king of the hill!
E) It’s closed so you will need to go home.
3) Write the word in a sentence. If you find writing tricky tell your adult
your sentence and they can write the words and you can write the common
exception word.
4) Read these words. Circle the words which are spelt correctly.
arr are awr
sais sawys says
find fiynd fiend
any anee ayne
owv ov of
5) Ask your adult to test you on these words. How many can you spell
correctly. *Tip: say the word, say the word in a sentence and then say the
word again.
Phonics Our sound family this week is: ow, oa, o_e, oe.
1. Say the ‘ow’ sound 10 times. Can you whisper it? Tell the window the
sound. Tell the door the sound.
2. Can you circle the ‘oa’ sound in the words below?
oak
coat
toast
3. Write the sounds ow, oa, o_e, oe on a piece of paper in different
colours. Can you write them on your adult’s back with your finger?
4. Can you find things around your house with the oe sound in them? How
many can you find?
5. Write one sentence for each word: mow, boat, bone, toe.
*Remember your capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

Can you complete the table? The first one is done for you.
Wednesday
For the rest of the week we are going to start looking at time.

PSHE: Let’s practise mindfulness! Listen carefully with your eyes closed to any sounds you can hear. After 1 minute open your eyes and write down everything that you heard or tell your adult. Challenge: Can you write a story about the different sounds that you heard?
Fun fact! Otters sleep holding hands not to float away from each other whilst
sleeping.
