    hallows eve. During the

    festival, they would bless and

    convert pagans called

    Halloween, because hallow

    means saints and een means

    evening. We dress up honering

    the Celtics who would wear

masks to scare evil spirits away.

    Preventing demons from

    identifying them as humans.

    Celts lived more than 2,000

years ago in what is now

    England, Ireland, Wales, and

    Northern France. Celtics

    31st

    is an American holiday that

    has roots in Northern European

    harvest festivals. Halloween

    celebrations usually include

    ghosts, ghouls, and all manner

of the living dead. Dia De Los

    muertuertos is Spanish for the

day of the dead a Mexican

holiday thats falls at the same

    time of year. Though the

    holidays seem superfictually

    similar theres a few key

    differences. Today we dress up

in costumes and go to house to

house and they give us candy.

    We call this trick-or treating.

    Trick-or-treating comes from

    Irish farmers who would go

    from house to house begging

    for food. Many kids think

    Halloween is just about

dressing up and getting candy. I

used to think that too! But until

now I never really thought of

    the term where did Halloween

    come from.
