Stevie Nicks: Visions, Dreams and Rumours Zoë Howe !!Lyrical visionary, enduring style icon and one indispensable fifth of post-Peter Green megaband Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks is one of the most recognisable figures in rock ‘n’ roll history - very much Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Queen Bee’, as Mick Fleetwood himself describes her. !While she once made headlines with her hedonistic lifestyle, part of Nicks’ irresistible appeal is her youthful vulnerability and mystical aura, making her an artist with whom fans have an unbreakable emotional connection. !Crowned ‘The Reigning Queen Of Rock And Roll’ by Rolling Stone, and with gold and quadruple platinum solo albums under her beaded belt, Stevie Nicks has enjoyed the ultimate in rock ‘n’ roll success in her life as a recording artist - but this charmed life has come as a result of hard graft, self-belief and a devotion to creativity above all; hers has been a journey of intense highs and lows. !

This book, a celebration of the Stevie Nicks phenomenon, takes us on her journey from peripatetic mid-West childhood to her explosion onto the music scene as chiffon-swathed rock goddess, right up to present day. !Including exclusive interviews with some of Stevie’s associates and collaborators from over the years, author Zoë Howe explores the mystique while retaining the magic of this modern-day musical sorceress and wise woman of rock. !Zoë Howe is a British rock writer whose books include Typical Girls? The Story Of The Slits, How’s Your Dad? Living In The Shadow Of A

Rock Star Parent, Florence + The Machine - An Almighty Sound, Wilko Johnson - Looking Back At Me, and Barbed Wire Kisses - The Jesus And Mary Chain Story. Her music journalism has appeared in The Quietus, NME, BBC Music, Holy Moly and Company amongst other outlets and she has made music radio series for stations including the award-winning Resonance FM. !!OMNIBUS PRESS, 450 PAGES, HARDBACK !!!

!!!Journey to the Centre of The Cramps Dick Porter !

!The Cramps were an American punk rock band, formed in 1976. The band split after the death of lead singer Lux Interior in 2009. Their line- up rotated much over their existence, with the husband and wife duo of Interior and lead guitarist and occasional bass guitarist Poison Ivy the only permanent members.

They were part of the early CBGB punk rock movement that had emerged in New York. The Cramps are noted as influencing a number of musical styles and were of the first garage punk bands, they are also widely recognized as one of the prime innovators of psychobilly. Ace Records have recently reissued four of the band’s albums in a deluxe coloured vinyl format.

Based upon work and materials compiled for the acclaimed and now much sought after 2007 Cramps biography A Short History of Rock’n’Roll Psychosis, Journey To The Centre Of The Cramps goes far beyond being a revised and updated edition: Completely overhauled, rewritten and vastly expanded, it now represents the definitive work on the group.

In addition to unseen interview material from Ivy, Lux and other former band members, Journey To The Centre Of The Cramps also sees the Cramps’ story through to its conclusion, recounting Lux’s unexpected death in 2009, the subsequent dissolution of the group and their enduring legacy.

Dick Porter is the author or co-author of several books including Blondie: Parallel Lives. He is the editor of TraxMarx web fanzine.

Bad Boys by Marcia Resnick NEW YORK CITY 1977-1982 !Rockers, literary outlaws and artistic provocateurs often personify Bad Boys who, in the words of Jack Kerouac, are “the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the trouble makers, the round heads in the square holes, the ones who see things differently.” !

Bad Boys can be at once formidable and endearing. They often live life on the edge. Some, like John Belushi, Lester Bangs and Johnny Thunders, fell off that edge way too soon. According to New Scientist magazine, Bad Boys embody a sordid suite of antisocial personality traits known as the “dark triad.” These are narcissistic self-obsession, psychopathic thrill seeking and Machiavellian exploitation. At their extreme, these traits could have exigent cultural costs. But being only slightly evil could have an upside which serves to

set certain people apart. In a modest dosage these traits can invest an individual with singular force, a burn. There was an abundance of such unique individuals living in NYC in the 70s and 80s. Being “bad” also makes people attractive, especially to the opposite sex. “Playing rock and roll makes a person handsome,” states Richard Hell in his autobiography, I Dreamed I Was a Very Clean Tramp… !Marcia Resnick is a photographer who made her name as a chronicler and member of the 1970s-80s New York demimonde. Her work has not been widely shown nor collected in books, yet her eye is behind many of the most iconic images of an era ravaged by the culture of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll that defined it. !!!!Photographic portfolio by Marcia Resnick, text by Victor Bockris, all rights available. !!!!!

!!Peaches: A Chronicle of the Stranglers 1974-1990 by Robert Endeacott !

Formed in 1974 as The Guildford Stranglers, The Stranglers were at the vanguard of punk and new wave whilst never really being accepted as 'proper' punks. Although they looked as hard as nails, they were older than their contemporaries, had keyboards in the band and shock, horror, could play their instruments. However, rock fans everywhere embraced their more melodic, witty and often menacing musical vision and the band have had a string of hit singles and albums. !Still going to this day, but without original

guitarist Hugh Cornwell, the classic line up is Cornwell, Jean Jacques Burnel, Dave Greenfield and Jett Black. This is the line up covered in this book which goes from the band's conception to Cornwell's departure in 1990. Written by an uber fan who has good connections within The Stranglers community, the book, loosely set out in diary form (Think Punk Rock Diary), covers the band's stormy history, a history often clouded by darkness. It weaves in secondary research plus enlightening splashes of exclusive quotes and anecdotes together with rare photos and interview extracts. Plus of course, accounts of so many gigs and incidents - this band is never far from controversy. !This is very much a fans’ book. The author is active within The Stranglers’ community and many contributions and anecdotes from fans are included, along with some rare and previously unseen photos. Born in Leeds in 1965, Robert Endeacott first found The Stranglers in 1978 when someone gave him a copy (probably lent him it actually) of The Stranglers' single 'Five Minutes' and so a life-long attachment began. His writing 'career' began early this century with the release of 'One Northern Soul' then the sequel 'No More Heroes', semi-autobiographical tales of a Stranglers fan trying to grow up in the dark '80s of West Yorkshire.

George Clinton and the Cosmic Odyssey of the P-Funk Empire Kris Needs !A charismatic ringmaster notorious for getting naked onstage alongside a guitarist in just an oversize nappy. Another guitarist

who claimed to carry Jimi Hendrix’s spirit while flying on Yellow Sunshine acid. A kamikaze drug-guzzling contest giving black music its own Syd Barrett. A band which could be embraced by Detroit’s incendiary sixties rock ‘n’ roll revolution at the same time as providing a blueprint for Motown’s psychedelic soul. This was Parliament-Funkadelic, the marauding crew of ghetto blasters which provided the launch-pad for fearless cultural visionary George Clinton’s mayhem-strewn

voyage from New Jersey barbershop and Motown rejection to his chart-topping P-Funk empire, complete with the onstage landing of a senses-blasting Mothership. Clinton’s brazen embodiment of black power in its most literal form reflected the turmoil of a country ravaged by war while the band’s outrageous stage act predated punk, recasting rock and funk in modern times using his cosmic philosophies and “free your mind and your ass will follow” manifesto. The albums released under the P-Funk banner stand among the most influential in music, kickstarting black rock, laying foundations for hiphop and inspiring the likes of Primal Scream, Talking Heads and Red Hot Chili Peppers. !Born from a meeting between the author and Clinton over 25 years ago, George Clinton And The Cosmic Odyssey Of The P-Funk Empire explores this astonishing musical journey set against a seismic backdrop of the social and cultural movements of the times, standing as both vital historical document and vivid chronicle of excess in all areas. !!HARDBACK OMNIBUS PRESS JUNE 2014/376 PAGES/3 x COLOUR/BW PIX PLATE SECTIONS RIGHTS AVAILABLE

George Harrison: Behind the Locked Door By Graeme Thomson !Behind The Locked Door is Graeme Thomson's rich, insightful account of George Harrison's extraordinary life and career. !As a Beatle, Harrison underwent a bewilderingly compressed early adulthood, buffeted by unprecedented levels of fame and success. "Beatlemania" offered

remarkable experiences and opportunities but ultimately left him unsettled and unfulfilled. His life became a quest for deeper meaning which travelled far beyond the parameters of his former band and, indeed, music itself. This elegant, in-depth biography tracks him assiduously through his many changes and conflicts, from schoolboy guitarist to global superstar, God seeker to independent filmmaker, Formula One enthusiast to UNICEF fundraiser, and marks the perennial struggle of a man attempting to walk a spiritual path lined with temptation. !

Drawing on scores of new interviews with close friends and collaborators, rigorous research and critical insight, Behind The Locked Door is a fascinating account of the motives and varied achievements of an often misunderstood man. It offers full analysis of Harrison's music, including his earliest songs for The Beatles, his landmark solo album All Things Must Pass, his work with The Traveling Wilburys, and the posthumous Brainwashed, as well as his pioneering forays into Indian and electronic music. It is also an intimate character study, beautifully illustrating the eternal yin and yang of Harrison's nature. Behind The Locked Door is the definitive account of a compelling, contradictory life. !Published to coincide with what would have been the 70th anniversary of George Harrison's birth. Explores Harrison's work both within and without the Beatles and at the same time examining in detail his private and public passions, from Eastern spiritualism to horticulture, from comedy to film-making, from fast cars to working with UNICEF. His career renaissance in the 80s with the Travelling Wilburys. His last few years which were scarred by two bouts of cancer and a knife attack which almost killed him. His legacy, including his final album and memorial concert. !HARDBACK OMNIBUS PRESS 372 PAGES/PHOTO SECTIONS RIGHTS LICENSED: FINLAND, PORTUGAL, CZECH REPUBLIC, BRAZIL, ITALY !!!!!!

Hot Wired Guitar: The Life of Jeff Beck Martin Power (UPDATED EDITION) !“Martin Power takes a conscientious, methodical trawl from his Thames Delta origins to his musical awakening…Intriguingly Power traces much of the Beck legend to a serious head injury sustained when he was eleven…it is part of Beck’s genius that he transformed this trauma into a major artistic tool and applied it so spectacularly to such a range of musics..This book does the job thoroughly.” --Charles Shaar Murray, Classic Rock

“Solid biog of an influential and evergreen legend. It’s these early years of Beck’s professional life that make the most evocative reading in this weighty biography, thanks mainly to the personal recollections of fellow Yardbirds Chris Dreja and Jim McCarty, their memories of a thriving Home Counties R&B scene bringing the 60s to life…offers a fulsome chronicle of one of the UK’s best musicians’ development…admirable gumshoe work by a writer who’s clearly also a major fan.” --Record Collector !“Power’s good on how the visual blueprint for Nigel

Tufnel would rather talk hot rods than string gauges, and his lengthy study of Beck successfully maps a career with countless twists. Power’s approach…yields toothsome nuggets.” --James McNair, MOJO !“A contender for music biography of the year is Martin Power’s Hot Wired Guitar : The Life of Jeff Beck (Omnibus). Exhaustive doesn’t really describe how thoroughly Power has researched his subject having interviewed practically everyone who’s played a part in Beck’s illustrious career and sourcing everything that seems to have been written about him. --Caught by the River !The definitive account of Jeff Beck's journey from his childhood in 1940s South London to the world-wide success of 2010's album Emotion and Commotion and beyond. Martin Power has talked to former Yardbirds members Chris Dreja and Jim McCarty as well as manager Simon Napier-Bell and fellow musicians including Max Middleton, Stanley Clarke, Simon Phillips, Jimmy Hall, Mo Foster, Doug Wimbish and many others. Supported by full album reviews, rare photographs and an up-to-date discography, Hot Wired Guitar is the most complete and comprehensive account of the life and times of Jeff Beck, the man who took the electric guitar and showed the world just what could be done with just six strings and 'one hell of an attitude'. !NOVEMBER/PAPERBACK/OMNIBUS PRESS/384 PAGES RIGHTS LICENSED: JAPAN ALL OTHER RIGHTS AVAILABLE

Ibiza Behind the Dance Clubland Shamen and the Evolution of the Party Ritual Helen Donlon !“No-one cares where you’re from, it’s where you’re at that counts” - Ibiza saying !The first complete picture of Ibiza’s evolution as the world’s favourite party island. Named after Bes, the Phoenician god of dance, Ibiza has been the party home across the ages to island rulers including North African pirates (Ibiza is probably the only place in the world greeting visitors into its port with a proud statue of a pirate marauder), Visigoths, Vandals, Byzantines, Romans, Catalans and Castillians. By the 1950s the Hippies had come and dropped acid, and beach drumming parties paved the way for the Eastern-influenced trance scene that peaked in the 70s and 80s and remains a fundamental aspect of the Ibiza pulse today. Travellers passing through or stranded in Ibiza (and often on the run) from various European countries and the US brought in all sorts of new music and dance rituals from their travels to the Far East and places like Afghanistan. Beach parties started to take place in secret coves, often to coincide with the sunset, or full moon. !In many ways these rituals heavily prefigure today’s world famous Ibiza club scene, with the mixture of elements – the international crowds mixing with the local; the paramount addition to an evening of either sunset parties or sunrise DJ sets (the latter being the headline sets at Ibiza clubs today); a close connection to nature with strong ties to the beach and forests, and a spirit of hedonism and open-heartedness. This early period also marked the establishment of chill out parties, and of Ibiza as the European gay clubbing capital (extraordinary in itself, given how this enormous scene thrived all through the Franco years). Within a few years word of this free-living and non-judgmental lifestyle had spread and all sorts of outlaws, Freaks and curious individuals clocked in. Parties were not only held outdoors however. The countryside fincas (to this day the best afterparties are away from town) would be filled with an often implausible and compelling mixture of individuals all seeking freedom from the nursery-like patterns of standard Western daily living. They knew they’d finally found the place that not only represented this but which seemed to magically draw like-minded creatures from everywhere, all seeking the same freedoms of expression and desire to party. !Ibiza Beyond the Dance covers the evolution of a unique type of party - where the combination of multicultural and pansexual themes and partygoers continues a tradition started hundreds of years earlier. Where sunsets and sunrises are as important to the party experience as the tunes. Where tales of characters arriving for a holiday…and still being there 30 years later are still a norm, and where the biggest nightclub in the world co-exists with beach shack culture - all in the same night. The book contains extensive interviews with DJs, promoters, politicians, dancers, theatrical club/beach/street 'action' players and acrobats, musicians, club owners, filmmakers, stylists and club technicians from various generations. !HANNIBAL VERLAG, COLOUR AND B/W PHOTOS, 284 PAGES, UK AND OTHER RIGHTS NOW AVAILABLE !!!!

The Burroughs-Warhol Tapes By Victor Bockris !

From the introduction… !Across the span of 1980 I tape recorded four meetings between William Burroughs and Andy Warhol. It all began when I was under a stiff deadline to finish my book, “With William Burroughs: A Report from the Bunker,” (Seaver Books, N.Y.C. 1981). After several years of contributing to Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine, I had picked up on his idea of introducing two celebrities and taping their conversation. In this manner I

recorded William in conversation with some fifteen figures, including Lou Reed, Christopher Isherwood, Terry Southern and Allen Ginsberg. I had just added Susan Sontag and Debbie Harry. ! Warhol and Burroughs was the ultimate combination. Particularly because they had only met once in 1965 over dinner in a Chinese restaurant. When one of Warhol’s louche entourage plunked his unfinished plate of food on somebody else’s table, Burroughs walked out. Now, however, fifteen years later with me as the go between it wasn’t hard to get Bill to accept an invitation to dinner with Andy. It was Andy who had initially appeared apprehensive. When I suggested we could tape the meeting for my book, he responded, “Oh, yeah! That would be great! But I never know what to say to him. I mean, does he talk?” !!Both men thought they were going to meet the other man’s image. !This transcript “Oh Andy!” of the first dinner was recorded at Warhol’s favorite restaurant near the Union Square Factory, 65 Irving just below Gramercy Park on February 4, 1980. It is completely different than the official transcript, “Dinner with Andy and Bill,” published in the 10th Anniversary edition of Blueboy in September 1980 and here in chapter three. The Blueboy version was organized around the kind of topics you might expect Burroughs and Warhol to discuss, whereas this recently discovered transcript captures the affectionate, playful atmosphere of the evening. It’s a reflection of the flowers of friendship blooming. That night Andy and Bill became friends for the rest of Warhol’s life, 1980 - 1987. !Apart from the three of us, the party included the charming and attractive fashion consultant and writer, Andre Leon Talley, who helped considerably by spreading the conversation equally between Andy and Bill. He had recently left Woman’s Wear Daily and was just beginning to consult for Vogue. We sat at Mr. Warhol’s favorite table in the near left hand corner as we came into the room. Andy sat with his back to the wall, which gave him the best view available of the whole room. Bill sat to his right, Andre to his left, with me opposite, in the best position to record and photograph the conversation. --Victor Bockris !!PHOTOGRAPHS AND TEXT 150 PAGES RIGHTS LICENSED: JAPAN, SPAIN !!!

Dead Kennedys The Story of Dead Kennedys’ Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables By Alex Ogg !Dead Kennedys are renowned worldwide for being the most popular and influential punk band to come out of America in the late 70s/early 80s. !

With a history is mired in controversy their very name caused, and continues to cause, widespread disapproval among the American mainstream. Dead Kennedys were amongst the most vocal opponents of Reagan and the far right, mixing political satire with ‘pranks’ to make their point. Lead singer Jello Biafra once stood for mayor of San Francisco and finished fourth. One of his election promises was to establish standard public rates for bribes in relation to liquor licences, building code exemptions and protection from the police. He also married his wife in a graveyard… !Their debut album Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables included three of punk rock’s most memorable and cherished singles (‘California Uber Alles’, ‘Holiday In Cambodia’, ‘Kill

The Poor’) and was quickly followed by a fourth, ‘Too Drunk To Fuck’. The first Top 40 record to use the ‘F’ word in its title, it caused predictable furore in the national press, especially after arrests were made of fans wearing the accompanying t-shirt. The subsequent ‘In God We Trust’ EP continued the assault and its frenetic pace has been credited with popularising the hardcore variant of punk that took hold of the American alternative music scene in the early 80s. Around this time attending a Dead Kennedys show was a dangerous business – the group were involved in numerous clashes with the police, ending in full-scale riots on at least one occasion. They also made clear their disgust at any creeping elements of fascism/racism within the nascent hardcore punk community by releasing another expletive-adorned single, ‘Nazi Punks Fuck Off’. 1982’s Plastic Surgery Disasters continued the mix of biting satire at America’s foreign and domestic policy. Biafra also built up the Alternative Tentacles label, the still extant imprint famed for being a harbour for some of the most experimental punk and non-punk, left field music of the States and beyond. !1985’s Frankenchrist came with a free poster of H.R Giger’s Work 219: Landscape XX which led to the arrest of the band and a charge of distribution of harmful matter to minors. As a result, Biafra became synonymous with the fight against censorship of music. This new book concentrates on the first incarnation of the band, through its formation in the diverse and vibrant San Francisco punk scene, including unpublished details of the origin of the band’s name and formation, through their ‘classic’ album and the accompanying singles, ending with the departure of their original drummer. Featuring new and old illustrations by renowned DKs collaborator Winston Smith, as well as dozens of extremely rare and previously unseen photos and other archive visuals. !Alex Ogg is a well established music biographer and journalist with several critically acclaimed books to his credit (The Hip Hop Years, Independence Days, No More Heroes, The Art of Punk). !PM PRESS AUTUMN 2013, PHOTOS BY RUBY RAY, DESIGN BY RUSS BESTLEY AND WINSTON SMITH, RIGHTS SOLD: UK, US, BRAZIL, GERMANY, FINLAND

Keith Richards: The Unauthorised Biography Victor Bockris !Getting to the truth behind Richards’s much publicised personal life, it details the battles with his demons, the drugs and his turbulent relationship with Jagger. It is quite simply a fascinating portrayal of one of rock ’n’ roll’s greatest living legends.—Express !

Bockris doesn't skimp on tales of his subject's aggression and heroin addiction, yet he also chooses anecdotes that emphasize the sincerity and amiability behind the musician's fierce stance. Richards emerges as more a tortured artist than a junkie, more a generous party-lover than a materialistic star in this well-organized, complimentary biography. —-Publisher’s Weekly !

This is a detailed and hugely engrossing biography. If you liked Richards’s own book, it’s definitely worth reading as Bockris gets material from lots of sources. Though unauthorised, he talked to just about everybody, including Richards himself. A picture emerges of a man obsessed with his guitar; who became addicted to heroin probably because, for a while at least, it helped him concentrate on his guitar; a man who lives to write, perform and record music but who does not like the poncy world of celebrity. Bockris takes you inside the houses (Redlands in Sussex, Cheyne Walk in Chelsea, Nellcôte in France), into the studios and on the tours. Richards only ever missed one gig — at Mick Jagger’s wedding to Bianca. - William Leith, Evening Standard !Here Bockris (The Life and Death of Andy Warhol, 1989, etc.) details--mainly through interviews with Richards--the guitar player's studio work, live performances, and personal life, as well as a chronicle of the band that was formed by Brian Jones…Much of the portrait here is a depressingly familiar canvas of addiction and denial, with Richards repeatedly arrested, burning down numerous estate houses by nodding off with lighted cigarettes, methodically punching out his common- law wife, Anita Pallenberg, in front of their children, delaying concerts and recording sessions for hours and days while in a stupor or trying to obtain drugs…choice fare for Richards fans. - Kirkus Reviews !OMNIBUS PRESS, PAPERBACK, 484 PAGES, COLOUR AND B/W PHOTOS !RIGHTS LICENSED:English audio, Poland, English language audio, Germany, Brazil, UK, US, Sweden, Holland, Japan, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Croatia, France, Denmark

From his days in the Velvet Underground and all throughout a life pushing the boundaries of the mainstream , this book channels the man and his music with extraordinary perception and considerable attention to detail. Lou Reed survived long enough to become the ultimate narrator of rock’s shifting subculture before finally finding peace. Know Your Enemy: The Story of Rage Against the Machine By Joel McIver !!Rage Against The Machine has been kicking against the system since 1992 – and selling millions of records on the way. Never preaching or earnest, the four-piece band melded the attitude of rap with the sound of metal and found a winning formula with songs that discuss issues as wide-ranging as the Mexican Zapatista struggle, America's militaristic foreign policy and institutionalised racism of governments. !Their confrontational style is a key theme of Joel McIver’s frank biography, combining the enthusiasm of a fan with a willingness to explore the serious issues at the heart of Rage’s political message. !Then, in 2009, RATM achieved the impossible by defeating Simon Cowell and his X Factor contestant Joe McElderry to the position of UK Christmas number one. Thanks to a social media campaign by fans ‘Killing In The Name’, a song from their 1992 debut album, hit the top and won them thousands of new fans. !Bestselling rock biographer Joel McIver digs deep into RATM’s convoluted history and uncompromising politics to write a compulsive and honest account of a unique band of heavy metal subversives. The author's understanding of, and passion for, her subject has resulted in a book that is not only practical but also compellingly readable. Supported by 1,500 music examples of published scores from Bach to Xenakis, this seminal and all-encompassing guide encourages new standards of excellence and accuracy. !"Elaine Gould, in this wonderful monster volume, has written the equivalent of the Grove Dictionary for Notation. It is an extraordinary achievement, and if used by the next generation of composers and copyists will be a blessing for hard-working and long-suffering performers everywhere! Every chapter presents solutions and rules that will make our life easier, save rehearsal time and frustration, and will ultimately lead to better performances. What is important for a musician is to be able to spend rehearsal time on the music itself, without the hindrance of trying to decipher it. The clarity Elaine asks for is not a matter of dry rules or customs: it is part of the living texture of the music itself. I not only welcome her book unreservedly, but I would also pray that it becomes a kind of Holy Writ for notation in this coming century. Certainly nobody could have done it better, and it will be a reference for musicians for decades to come.." Sir Simon Rattle. !!FABER MUSIC, 704 PAGES, RIGHTS AVAILABLE
