Letter from the EditorsAnastasia Genvarskaya . Editor-In-Chief With a natural eye for all things beauty and high-end luxury, Anastasia set out to find the best in salons and accessories Mission Street had to offer. What she found was an undeniable presence of elegance and charm on a

street she discovered was highly underrated. “It was surprising to unveil the feel of a small town amid a fast-paced LA life. Luxury I thought could only

be found in a large city with a well-defined fashion presence I found in the small city of San Marino on Mission Street. My favorite was definitely the playfulness of Colori (as seen on page 6). It was so full of personality,

designer quality, and of course, COLOR!”

Ly Le . Media ExecutiveExpert in media marketing and promotion, Ly took into her hands the task of capturing the spirit and ambience of Mission

Street through the lens of a photographer. “When an image in a

magazine -- like this one -- is all the reader has to form a

judgment, you want to make sure that image truly does say a

thousand words.” And a thousand words is exactly what each of Ly’s photographs in the March Issue of Heirloom say .

Tiffany Solis . Marketing DirectorWith expertise in branding and consumer behavior, Tiffany’s focus is identifying and defining market potential and customer interactions. Studying and observing Mission Street’s cliental, she discovered

warmth and grace to the community. “Though it may only be two blocks long, Mission Street embodies value and wealth; it is an

heirloom in itself.” Together, the contributors of this magazine prepare you for the best shopping experience on Mission Street.

Julienne

While the city of San Marino

celebrates its 100th anniversary, a fancy little restaurant by the name of Julienne celebrates its 28th. Opened in 1985 by owner Susan Campoy, Julienne has grown from a small, four-table deli to a highly trafficked fine dining experience. Having gained loyalty from locals in the neighborhood quite quickly, Julienne has expanded three times. Now it not only consists of the restaurant, but also a gourmet market and a gift shop. It is a place every Mission Street visitor should experience!

The Restaurant Whether you are in the mood for breakfast, lunch, or a hand-selected boutique wine, Julienne Restaurant offers the best Gourmet French Bistro in the area. You can either enjoy your meal in the beautifully-green patio area, in their rustic and charming indoor table seating, or for a more quite dine, try their famous private Library Dining Room. Or perhaps you would rather enjoy Julienne’s delicious cuisine from home -- no problem! With their catering-to-go menu, you can also order and pick-up your meal simply by calling. Whichever you may choose, Julienne is sure to please you!

The Gourmet Market Make every minute count. Use your waiting time to browse through Julienne’s Gourmet Market (usual waiting time is approximately 30 to 45 minutes). Here you can find delicious desserts, soups, salads, entrees, or a nicely boxed picnic dinner such as their Poached Salmon or an exquisite Heirloom Tomato with Burrata. Whether you have ever been to France or not, The Gourmet Market will provide you with a memorable European experience.

The Gift Shop

Once you have satisfied your hunger, don’t forget to venture through Julienne’s Gift Shop. Here you can pick-up Susan Campoy’s first book Celebrating with Julienne, along with plenty of other precious knick knacks. In her book, Susan shares her best recipes, stories, and tips and advice for every cook. Though Julienne is now operated by Susan Campoy’s daughter due to Campoy’s passing in 2009, we can all still enjoy her legacy by diving into her book and reading the best of her accomplishments.

The Personalized Shopping Experience

Corina Madilian, owner of this upscale boutique

for both women and children, has a vision. She

says, “I was drawn to San Marino because I loved

the cozy and familiar feel.” Madilian has always

wanted to own a lifestyle boutique. To her, going

shopping at the mall is an unpleasant experience

and can be troublesome. The fast-paced

environment may be overwhelming to her, and

therefore she wanted to create a different vibe

and environment at Serafina. Not only do the

staffs at Serafina recognize you, but also they will

pull different styles that go along with your

personal preference and taste. Their customer

service may be at its finest and do receive a lot of

support from the locals. Women may walk

through the door without knowing what they want

or how they want to look and come out with a

different perspective. Unlike the shopping

experience at the mall where sale associates are

too busy to assist every customer, these stylists

are there to educate you on how to style. Corina

Madilian personally selects products that are

considered timeless fashion. She even has a

corner for men to sit and relax while their wife

and kids are shopping around. With the e-

commerce shopping being available 24/7, why

would customers bother driving miles away to

shop? Shopping online doesn’t provide the

personalized shopping experience compared to

Serafina. Madilian reports, “We have a good

reaction so far.” Others are cutting back on their

consuming habits, Madilian is not afraid to keep it

upscale and set high expectations. She even has a

section for kids. The children’s salon features

adorable yet comfortable outfits, gifts, and unique

socks. These features are perfect gifts from

grandparents to their grandkids, mom to sons or

daughters, or even aunts and uncles to their

nieces and nephews. This upscale boutique has

built a reputation that speaks for itself.

Voted Best of Pasadena in 2010, Fancy That! is an attraction you just don’t want to miss. Located in the heart of Mission Street in San Marino, Fancy That! has gifts for every occasion, holiday, or just plain fun. This charming and delightful gift shop started as a pharmacy in the early 1920s. After two different owners played a Bonnie and Clyde and ran off with all the money in the cash drawer, finally the pharmacy closed and was reopened as a gift shop. In 2008, Fancy That! came into existence and has been the cutest little boutique you ever have seen. Better yet, the history does not end there. Fancy That! is filled with vintage pieces that each have a story of their own. From an antique Ford that has been converted to an audio capable furniture table, original neon signs dating back to the 1980s and earlier, to spectacular holiday display windows that change as the seasons change, Fancy That! is simply an irresistible spectacle.
