Renewable Heat Incentive
• Still a lot of information unknown
• £860 million government investment
• 2 phase approach
• Heat generating technologies
• Systems installed from 15th July 2009 eligible
• Accreditation
– Product and installer MCS certificated
for systems under 45kW
• Automatic degression
• Administered by Ofgem

Domestic installations
• Domestic RHI tariffs
– From October 2012 alongside the Green Deal
• New build homes
– An RHI tariff will be considered for the 2012 phase
• Consultation later in 2011 on the phase 2 RHI tariffs
• Likely RHI premium payments (July 2011??)
– Solar Thermal - £300/unit
– Air Source Heat Pumps - £850/unit
– Biomass boilers - £950/unit
– Ground Source Heat Pumps - £1250/unit

RHI premium payments
• Installations will be eligible for a RHI tariff
• Installed technologies monitored
– to enable better understanding
• Clear eligibility criteria in order to qualify
– a well insulated home based on EPC
– agreeing to give feedback on how the equipment performs
• Off the gas grid key focus
– fuels more expensive and higher carbon content
• Details due to be announced May 2011??

Planned next steps
• Draft regulations closed for comment 5th April 2011
• Clearance through Commission
– state aid and technical standards
• Aim to get phase 1 tariffs through Parliament in July and open for applications with Ofgem thereafter
• Consult on Phase 2 proposals autumn 2011
• Draft regulations for phase 2 spring 2012
• Launch Phase 2 RHI autumn 2012
