Transcript of hearing from God week 5: prophecy

key highlights:• relational responsibility and prophetic accountability are synonymous
• if we’re going to prophesy its important to keep ourselves accountable in
both our relational skills and our prophetic words
• getting feedback from those we minister to is one way of doing this
• feedback is meant to be a helpful tool for personal growth – allowing us
to measure our successes/mistakes and supplying us with honest evalu-
ation
• feedback promotes a culture of empowerment – we empower others by
allowing them to share with us freely. we’re empowered by positioning
ourselves in humility to receive, without it disturbing our identity or cre-
ating offense in our hearts
• prophetic accountability is healthy – it can remind us that our identity is
not tied to our performance/accuracy
• prophetic accountability is biblical – the words themselves should be
weighed/judged (1 cor. 14:29)
Page 3
• prophesy in accordance to your faith (rom. 12:6). determine how
confident you are and go from there
• use words carefully to help manage expectations
• track prophetic words you’ve given
• if you share something about the future, follow up regarding it.
• take responsibility for words that don’t happen if you missed it
• if your words are more encouragement/insight, get immediate
feedback; ask what’s correct and what’s not
practicle ways to be accountable:

prophetic group activity / personal practicals
make a plan with some friends to join together as a group for the
purpose of ministering prophetically within your city. try and accom-
plish the following as a team:
• pray for words of knowledge. ask God for risky details like some-
one’s name, birthdate, or what they do as a profession. write
down everything you may hear. as you go out that day purpose-
fully look for the one(s) those words were meant for
• find someone who looks like they need some hope. try encour-
aging them the best you can. then ask if they’d let you pray for
them
• if you see a mom with small children, ask God for a word of en-
couragement for her. be sensitive and share the word fast!
• look for a “creative person”. prophesy to them about their
dreams/future projects
• prophesy over someone you normally may not approach. ask
God to reveal to you what’s in His heart for them, then step out
and share what you believe you’ve heard
• give someone something of yours and then share a prophetic
word about why you’re giving the gift so that it reveals the love
of God
• pray for physical healing for someone who appears to be in
need. then ask God for an encouraging word you can share with
them after
Page 9

• ask God to give you someone’s name. when you’re out and
about ask anyone who’s highlighted, “do you know someone with
this name?” if they do, quickly ask God for a prophetic word for
them and share it
practicals to remember:
starter questions: when initiating a prophetic conversation find
wording that works for you. an example might be: do you have a
second for me to share something I think might encourage you?
use simple phrases: after receiving a positive response, use simple
phrases to share the prophetic word. examples: i got this impression
or sense that... i saw a picture of... i believe i heard...
adapt your language: don’t use “spiritual” language. good rule of
thumb: if a youth could understand what you’re describing, you’re
probably good.
Page 10
don’t embellish: you may not always receive an interpretation for
what you’ve seen/heard. be faithful with what God gives you–don’t
add to it. sometimes He only gives us a portion because He’s invit-
ing the other person into a place of personal discovery with Him.
note: there may be times, however, when asking the question, “does
this mean anything to you?” releases additional prophetic clarity.
making mistakes: be humble; admit you’ve missed it and try again
another time.
