arriage Matters
Mission Statement: Every Marriage Matters is a facilitator in the community bringing together faith-
based, governmental and business entities that we might vitalize marriage and family. Through both secu-
lar and faith-based programs, we provide a resource center for marriage and family building assets, and
for their community support.
How often are your services offered?: Our website is available all the time; we send out a
monthly e-newsletter to everyone who asks for it; we host events in the community through-out the
year
What area(s) do you offer services? :Clackamas County.
What are your targeted demographic(s)? : pre-marital and married couples.
Cost?: There is no cost to receive our newsletter; web access is open to everyone at no charge;
event prices vary and are posted on our site
What is your organization doing to strengthen marriages, relationships and families?: Every Marriage Matters was founded June 2001 with the signing of the Clackamas County Marriage Policy. With this Policy,
leaders from 157 of the 300+ churches in the county agreed to minimum standards for marriage within their congre-
gations. Presently 173 churches are signatories to the Marriage Policy. These standards include a focus on premarital
preparation, nurture of existing marriages, and a focus on assisting couples going through distress.
An increase in the health of marriage could be measured indirectly by a reduction in the divorce rate. The Clackamas
County divorce rate fell by 17 per cent during our first 5 years. As a matter of reference, over this same period, the US
divorce rate dropped 10%.
Since that time we have remained a resource to the community linking non-profit agencies, churches, businesses and
educational entities to foster community support for strong marriages and families.
How can other organizations access your services?: Via our web site – we have a current events listing of seminars, retreats, special speaker engagements, training sessions and marriage
