HEALTHY LIVES, HEALTHY HOMES HEALTHY LIVES, HEALTHY HOMES Three local organisations, Feel Good Factor, Care and Repair Leeds and Leeds Black Elders Association, are working together to provide the following services to older BME people (age 60+) who live in the ethnically diverse areas of Chapeltown and Harehills: • A RANGE OF HEALTH AND WELLBEING ACTIVITIES • SUPPORT FOR CARERS • HOME DECORATING AND GARDENING SERVICE • MINOR ADAPTATIONS IN THE HOME • VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES “I look forward to seated exercise, it fun and relaxing and I feel so much happier and now that I have started exercising, I feel my joints are less stiff and I am able to move better.” “I wasn’t aware about the support available for carers.” “I want to be part of giving back to my community, that’s why I want to volunteer with Healthy Lives Healthy Homes” Healthy Lives, Healthy Homes in Chapeltown and Harehills helps older people to maintain their health, wellbeing and independence. The project also supports older people with long term conditions (including dementia) and their carers through peer support groups. “Having a grab rail to pull myself up at the front door has been helpful. Feel Good Factor take care of health and wellbeing activities including gentle physical activities, therapeutic and creative courses, dementia awareness, carers groups and volunteering opportunities.

Care & Repair Leeds visits older people in their own home to carry out an assessment of needs to support them to live there independently and safely. The type of work includes minor adaptations and provision of equipment, minor repairs including repairs and servicing of heating appliances, information and advice on Housing choices and signposting to other services.
Leeds Black Elders Association (LBEA) takes great pride in providing specialised provision for Black elders, ensuring that their particular needs are being met. For Healthy Lives, Healthy Homes LBEA provides a home decorating and general gardening service following an initial assessment.
