Lunch at the Oakland Library

In California last summer, 84% of children who received free or subsidized meals during the school year did not participate in a summer lunch program, in part due to the lack of summer school sites.

--California Food Policy Advocates “School’s Out Who Ate” Annual Report. Children eating free lunch at Cesar Chavez Branch

Library, OPL

Let’s Do Lunch!

• Staffing (clerical, custodial, and programmatic)

• Facility (in the library, or in the meeting room? Either works)

• Outreach (target community? Other nearby sites?)

• Program (Tie it in to summer reading with lunch-hour staffing levels in mind)

Nearly 8,500 meals were served over 9 weeks during OPL’s Lunch at the Library, 2012.
