Preheatovento350degrees.Lightlygreasea7”x11”bakingpan.Mixflour,saltandbakingsodatogetherinalargebowl.Addbrownsugar,oats,andspices.Cutbutterwithapastryblenderorforkuntilmixtureiscrumbly.Spreadhalfofthecrumbmixtureinthebakingpan.Topwithappleslicesandsprinklewithsugar.Spreadremainingcrumbmixtureevenlyoverapplesandbakeat350degreesfor40-50minutes.Coolandcutintobarsandservewarmwithvanillaicecream.

• 2cupspancakemix,preparedaccordingtopackagedirections• 1/2cupAndesCandiesbakingchips• MapleSyrup

Preheatovento350degrees.Preparepancakemixinalargebowl.StirintheAndeschips.Filleachoftheopeninginanon-stickmuffinpanwithpancakebatter.Bakefor10,thenremovethemuffinpanandmakeaslitineachmuffinwithaknife.Addabitofsyrupintotheslitandthenbakeforanadditional5minutesoruntilgoldenbrown.Letcoolandserve!

Oatmeal-Flax Chocolate Chip Cookies

• 11/2cupallpurposeflour• 1cupquickcookingoats• 1/4cupflaxseed,finelyground• 11/2tablespoonbakingsoda• 1/2teaspoonsalt• 1/2teaspooncinnamon• 1cupsugar• 3/4cuppackeddarkbrownsugar• 2largeeggs• 1teaspoonvanillaextract• 1cupsemisweetchocolatechips

Preheatovento350degrees.Linebakingsheetswithparchmentpaper.Whisktheflour,oats,flaxseed,bakingsoda,saltandcinnamoninabowl.Beatthebutter,sugarandbrownsugarinalargebowlwithamixeronme-diumhighsppedabout4minutes.Beatintheeggs,oneatatime.Beatinthevanillaandreducethemixerspeedtolow.Addtheflourmixtureabeatuntiljustcombined.Stirinthechocolatechipsbyhand.Droptablespoonsfulofdoughontothebakingsheets,about2inchesapart.Bakefor10-12minutes.Coolcookiesonacoolingrack.

Noodle Kugel• 1pounddriedwideeggnoodles• 1/2cupunsaltedbutter• 1cupofwholemilk• 5largeeggs,lightlybeaten• 1/2cupsugar• 2teaspoonsvanilla• 1/2teaspoonsalt• 16oz.sourcream• 16oz.smallcurdcottagecheese(4%fat)• FORTOPPING:• 2cupscornflakes,coarselycrushed• 2tablespoonssugar• 1/2teaspooncinnamon• 2tablespoonsunsaltedbutter

Preheatovento350degrees.Buttera13x9”glassorceramicbakingdish.Cooknoodlesina6-8quartpotofboilingaltedwateruntilcooked,alden-te.Drainwellinacolander,thenreturntowarmpotandaddbutter,toss-inguntilnoddlesarecoated.Whisktogethermilk,eggs,sugar,vanilla,andsaltuntilcombined,thenwhiskinsourcream.Stirincottagecheeseandaddtonoodles,stirringtocoatwell,thenspoonintobakingdish.Mixtogethertoppingigredientsandsprinkleevenlyovernoodles.Patwithbutterandbakeuntilkugelissetandedgesaregoldenbrown,about1hour.Letcoolfor5minutesbeforeserving.

Preparesushiriceaccordingtopagedirections.Layoutnorisheetsonabamboomat.Nearoneendofthenori,placeasmallamountofrice,avaca-dos,crabmeat,andcarrots.Usethebamboomattoevenlyrollsushiintoalongroll.Sealtheendofthenoriwithwaterandsliceinto1”pieces.Servewithsoysauceandwasabi.

Heatuponepanofwaterforrice(seeyourboxfordirections).Addbayleaf,choppedgarlic,andpeppercornstobroth.Bringchickenbrothtoaboil.Choponion,carrots,andonion.Addtobroth.Tearorcutupcookedturkeybreastandaddtobroth.Addricetobroth.Allowsouptocookfor10minutes.

Parmesan Baked Chicken Nuggets• 2boneless,skinlesschickenbreasts,cutintobite-sizedpieces• 1cuppankobreakcrumbs• 1/2cupfinelygratedorpowderedparmesancheese• 1/2teaspoondriedthyme• coarseseasalt&freshly-crackedpepper• 1/2cupallpurposeflour• 2largeeggs,lightlybeaten• cookingspray• (optional)saucesfordipping

Preheatovento400degrees.Spreadpankoutevenlyonarimmedbakingsheetandbakeuntilgoldenbrown,about5-7minutes.Transfertoasmallmixingbowl,thenaddparmesanandthymeandtossuntilcombined.Rinseoffbakingsheet,thencoverwithparchmentpaper.

Placeflourandeggsinseparateshallowdishes.Turnoventemperatureupto450degrees.

Seasonthechickwithsaltandpepper.Oneatatime,addapieceofchickentotheflourandtossuntilcoated.Thendipitinegguntilcoate.Thentransfertothepankomixtureandtossuntilitiscompletelycoated.Transfertoparchment-linedbakingsheet.Repeatwithremainingchicken.Bakeuntilchickeniscookedthrough,about10-12minutes,flippinghalfwaythrough.Servechickennuggetswarmwithhoneymustardsauce,marinara,cheesesauceorbbqsauceifdesired.

Homemade Mac & Cheese• 1poundshortcutpasta(macaroni,shells,ziti)• 4tablespoonsbutter• 4tablespoonsallpurposeflour• 2cupsfatfreemilk• 8oz.sharpcheddarcheese,grated• 1/4teaspoongarlicpowder• salt&pepper• 2cupscheddarflavoredgoldfishcrackers,finelycrushed

Preheatovento375degrees.Cookpastafor8-10minutesin8quartsofsaltedboilingwater.Drain.

Overmediumheat,meltedbutterinasaucepanandthenstirinflour.Letbutterandflourmixturecookforabout1-2minutes,stirring.Pourmilkintosaucepanandstirforabout30seconds.Addgarlicpowder,salt&pep-per.Letmilkcook,stirringoccasionallyfor3-4minutesuntilthickened.Removefromheatandstircheeseintothickenedmilkuntilmelted,creat-ingacheesesauce.

Pourpastaandcheesesauceintoa13,9”bakingdishandstirwell.Evenlytopwithcrushedgoldfishcrackersandbakefor20-25minutes,untiltopisbubblyandgolden.Letstandfor5minutesbeforeserving.

Quiche with Vegetables• 3eggs• 4tablespoonsbutter• 11/2cupsofmilk• 3tablespoonsflour• 1/4teaspoonsalt• 1/4teaspoonpepper• 1/4teaspoondrymustard• 1mediumonion,chopped• 1teaspoondriedthyme• 11/2cupsmildcheddarcheese,grated• 2tablespoonsbutter• 1/2zucchini,slicedthin• 1cupmushrooms,slicedthin• Store-madedeepdishpiecrust• 1/2teaspoonpaprika

Preheatovento375degrees.Makeacustardbybeatingtogetherthemilk,eggs,flour,salt,pepperanddrymustard.

Sauteonionwithbutterfor2-3minutes.Addzucchini,mushrooms,thyme,saltandpepperandcookforabout2-3minutes.

Coverthebottomofthepiecrustwithcheese.Addthesauteedvegetablesontopofthecheese.Pourthecustardoverthevegetablelayerandsprinklewithpaprika.Bakefor40-50minutesoruntilcenterissolidwhentested.

Preheatovento350degrees.Cookpastafor8-10minutesin8quartsofsaltedboilingwater.Abouthalfwaythroughcookingtime,addthebroccolitothepastawater.Drain.

Inafryingpanovermedium-highheat,cookchickeninoliveoil.Addthegarlic,parsley,salt,pepperandthymeandcookforabout8-10minutes.

Pourthechicken,pasta&broccoliintoa13x9”glassorceramicpanandsprinkleparmesancheeseoverthetop.Bakefor15minutes.

Our troop of eight young women has been together for seven years, accomplishing incredible things. We have explored empowering careers for women, woodworking, science, social skills and protecting the environment. We have learned fun and challenging skills as scouts including archery, orienteering, zip-lining, outdoor camping and self-reliance. We have come together as a community to serve local hospitals, food banks and to support our neighbors during Superstorm Sandy. And of course...we have sold thousands of boxes of cookies!

As Girl Scout Cadettes, we have committed to a Silver Award community service project that will take us two years and a minimum of 50 hours to complete. Our goal is to bring a healthier lifestyle to our community, specifically, the children. This cookbook is one step towards this goal. We created and tested every recipe in this book and had a great time doing it! We are offering this digital version to EVERYONE, free of charge and we hope that you will make many of these recipes together as a family, working towards eating REAL foods, made from your own kitchen with few preservatives or chemicals.
